I'm hoping that this is the year we draft a couple of high end centers to help out Suzuki.

Obviously Wright would be the best choice, and I'm hoping that we get him. Another super talented, high end skill guy, 200 Foot game, right handed shot center is never a bad thing to have.

And I suspect that we will end up getting Faucher with our second pick in the first round as our de facto Third line center of the future. A huge kid that can play in all situations, is trending towards being a terrific shutdown center.

I'd love to see those three guys anchoring the middle of the ice for the near and hopefully distant future.

_____ - Suzuki - Caufield
_____ - Wright - Anderson
_____ - Faucher -
_____ - Evans - _______

Guhle - _____
Edmundson - Barron
Harris - Savard
Where did Romy go

I havnt watched as much footage as I'd like but from what I've seen and what I've read id be happy with Wright Cooley/Slaf Nemec/Jiricek. Just really hope our scouts have thier crystal balls all shined up cause witch ever one we pick we need to hit on it. Cause we can't have another underwhelming top 3 pick.

How is Slaf doing since his return from the Olympics, His he contributing a bit more?

Lmao used the draft simulator and absolutely crushed it

Just finished drafting using Draft Prospects Hockey’s NHL Draft Sim.

He's being doing well, getting on the score sheet more, and more engaged in general than he was before the WJC. I bumped him from 7 to 3 since the olympics.

If you had to nit pick a flaw in Slaf's game, what would that be? Not do devalue him, more about trying to gauge his low point in the NHL?

Size, Strength, Skating, Goal scoring power seems very good. What about his vision and hockey IQ? PP skill?

He plays in big strokes this creates a slower decision pattern. He needs to play faster (not talking about the skating, talking about the decision making). That's what makes Drai/Ovechkin so good, they are big guys who play very fast.

Hey....if you guys haven't visited the main prospects page in a bit, there is a link to a pretty slick draftpro simulator. I just did it. Drafted the first round. Simmed the rest except for the habs. This is what I drafted. Would love your thoughts!

Habs draft:

3 x Centre prospects
4 x right D prospects
2 x LW prospects
top goalies from both Finland and Russia
3 x 3 smurf RW prospects

That was a fun exercise, and all in all I am extremely happy with my Habs drafting!

U18s finally released their new schedule. They just decided to go with 8 teams instead of 10 (Russia & Belarus are out).

Groupings are:
Canada, USA, Czechia, Germany

Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Latvia

Lots of players on Sweden I'm interested to see play. I like their draftees in 2022.

Overall, he is a very skilled and physically gifted player, but in terms of an all around hockey game he's raw. I don't think he has a very highly developed understanding of the game. @Goldenhands thought that meant that I said he has ''poor hockey IQ,'' but that's not it. He's clever, and makes a lot of clever plays when he has the puck, and even makes some nice interceptions/stick checks. But he's missing details to his game, knowledge and understanding (as opposed to intellect), and he doesn't take full advantage of his skill set. @SOLR said that he plays in ''broad strokes'' and I agree with that.

Sounds like Poolparty in Edmonton

Nope, poolparty has poor IQ straight up.
That he does but it sounds like Slaf is similar. Every once in a while he'll make a clever or creative play but overall, not that savvy. Maybe he'll take a little longer to develop because of it. Nothing wrong with it.

Thanks. Interesting stuff. Is it draft day yet? haha

He is fairly raw and he does need to be put in a position where he's supported by more savy two way guys to really succeed. It's all very fair IMO. That and motor obviously, he's so big that he can't be a stationary guy, you have to get him to keep his feet going at all time, this will have to be drilled into his brain by his coaches.

Did you draft Savoie because you like him or because he was just the BPA ?

I really don't see them as comparable at all. Puljujarvi is more similar to Anderson without the physicality in my opinion. The kind of player that just always tries to fly down the wing at max speed and cuts to the net and doesn't really have great vision. Slaf is more like Jagr, getting into open spaces, plays east west, very solid playmaker, nothing like Puljujarvi.

Slaf is high IQ, broad strokes developing hand-stick skills, it's a very different set of challenges.

To put it another way, there are some players who aren't very skilled, and don't move very well, but just always know where to be at all times on the ice, and end up having a huge impact on the game in almost every shift. David Gustafsson, Jack Drury kind of players. Slafkovsky is kind of the opposite. He has a lot of shifts that are just laps. But then you give him the puck and all of the sudden ''wow, what a move, what a pass, what a goal.''

I'm not sure if Cooley is my pick at 3, but I could live with it if our top 5 picks look like that.
But realistically, Korchinski, Firkus and Trikozov could all be gone before pick 29

Now that we have discussed our high 1st round pick ad nauseum.

Who are some of the players you guys want with out later picks ?

Bichsel , McGroarty , Gaucher , Lamoureux , Kyrou , Pickering , Goyette ?
In an MHL playoff game today, both RW Gleb Trikosov and LD Artem Duda had a PP goal and 2 assists each
