So if pick number 7 comes up and there is an offer on the table are there any prospects that could fall that would make you not want to trade the pick?

I think for me the guys I would definitely want to draft instead of trading the pick are Wright, Slafkovsky, Nemec, and Jiricek.

damn that has to be one of the all time best hauls from a draft. 3 franchise cornerstones in 3 different positions.

Detroit: 1989
Lidstrom
Boughner
Fedorov
Konstantinov
Sillinger
Drake

Def solid though for Dallas. In recent history Mtl had a good one in the subban draft

If Jiricek slips I say take him. If not then we are in a good place Cutter Gauthier is growing on me as well. Either way I don't think we are in a Boucher situation

One thing that stuck out for me from the recent Dorion interview on TSN 1200 was his list of recent travel locations. He mentioned that he had recently been to Winnipeg. Have to think that part of that trip to Winnipeg was to scout Conor Geekie and Matthew Savoie of the Winnipeg Ice, who are still active in the WHL Playoffs.

Interesting comment by ClayAikenFan77 in the 2022 NHL CSS Final Rankings thread over in the prospect board:
Can confirm through a family member going through draft interviews this year that there are some NHL teams that do not want sleeper picks (rounds 4-7) on these lists as it would bring more attention to the player.

Geekie is definitely going to be high on our list

According to another teams scout, from a Sharks beat writer, apparently the Sharks are hoping for one of Kasper or Korchinski, but that scout said he doesn’t believe either will be there at 11. Called it their “dream scenario”.

Both scouts interviewed said that there were 6 players not making it to 11 for the Sharks pick for certain, the top 5 guys + Gauthier.

I really think we take Gauthier. I suppose there's a chance someone grabs him before us, or a guy in the top 5 slips to us, but it he's there, I fully expect him to pull a Sens jersey over his head on draft day.

If we trade that pick we're not waiting until we're on the clock to finalize the deal. You make the trade before the draft starts and live with the results.

Brown obviously had a way higher ceiling. He had questions about his attitude, training and compete.

Boucher is the exact opposite. He’s got a great attitude, trains very hard, and competes very hard, but he doesn’t have near the ceiling that Brown did.

BUT, what are his accomplishments?

Boucher has the intagibles that coaches love while Brown has the offensive skillset that fans love. Unfortunately whether it's injuries, out of shape or lack of drive Brown has yet to show he belongs in the NHL. Boucher on the other hand will be able to play at some compacity based on his intangibles & hopefully add some scoring to that skillset as well.
I would not bet on Boucher at this point.

Isn't that why we have Stutzle, Norris, Batherson, Chabot & Sanderson? Tkachuk also puts up pts as does C. Brown, Formenton, Joseph & I expect Pinto will. They also have plenty of guys who can produce pts by committee. The kind of guy you are talking about is usually in the top 3 of a draft & it's no ones fault that Ottawa has only had one of those when SJ sucked & we were able to draft Stutzle.

Trading for those also costs an arm & an leg so they have been doing the best they can with the picks they have. Even then it doesn't always work out & sometimes they get lucky with other picks. It would be great to have an elite player, but how you get one isn't as easy as people make it out to be.

The formula is: Be VERY bad to get a VERY good player. :)

No, not necessarily so.

A trade could be conditional depending upon which players were taken before the pick and which players are available at the pick.

It could also be "close to final" but not finalized until the draft is in progress.

It also might depend on negotiations with any player coming in the trade for his next contract.
