Noah Warren
Maveric Lamoureux

5 LDs the Sens can target in the 2nd Round (again if they make it there)
Owen Pickering

Calle Odelius
Isaiah George
Simon Forsmark
At the start of the season I saw Chesley as a lottery pick what happened for him to slip soo much??

I disagree that he should ever have been considered a lottery pick. I've always thought of him as a fringe first rounder. He put up some pretty obscene numbers for the U17 team which I think is what threw a lot of people off, but nothing drastic has changed about the player. He's smart, a good skater, good defensively, but I don't see much for offensive upside. He played big minutes on that U17 team and got the puck up to the vast array of skilled forwards. Was also the top PP guy early on, but was eventually surpassed by Seamus Casey and then Lane Hutson

Reminds me a bit of Justin Barron from his draft year. Really safe bet to be a 4/5 defenseman, but nothing to get particularly excited about. He could possibly still go late teens or early 20s if some team is just looking for a safe, low-risk pick, but personally I prefer my first rounders to have a little more upside.

Following SOA, I wanted to try my own ranking of left and right defensemen,

LD
1. Kevin Korchinski
2. Denton Mateychuk
3. Pavel Mintyukov
4. Owen Pickering
5. Calle Odelius
6. Lian Bichsel
7. Artem Duda
8. Mats Lindgren
9. Isiah George
10. Simon Forsmark / Arseni Koromyslov

RD
1. Simon Nemec
2. David Jiricek
3. Tristan Luneau
4. Seamus Casey
5. Ty Nelson
6. Maverick Lammoureux
7. Ryan Chesley
8. Elias Salomonsson
9. Sam Rinzel
10. Noah Warren

Who do people think is more NHL ready from Nemec and Jiri?

I'm partly leaning on drafting Jiri because I feel he could step into sheltered 3rd pair mins next year and be an asset. Selfishly I want that.

Both. Similar to Drysdale and Sanderson. If one plays an extra year outside of NHL, it's is purely for thorough development like we did with Sanderson, who could have still played his as 18 year old and likely would have been top 3 D for us this year.

Neither should play in the NHL next season IMO, though that's more because I think defensemen need to be developed carefully.

Putting either guy in the NHL next year would be a mistake. Drafting the more "NHL ready guy" is your 2nd mistake.

Take BPA and let them properly develop

This is the exact right answer. Fun question though, who are most NHL-ready prospects in the draft?

I think Wright, Slafkovsky, Jiricek, Nemec are the players who could be effective in the NHL next year. Kasper, Cooley, Kemell, Lekkerimaki, Savoie, Ohgren I could see playing after one year of development.

Jiricek has been Injured most of the season. Needs a season in the AHL.

Wright, personally I think he needs a bigger challenge but screw the CHL-NHL agreement. Belleville is the perfect place for him.

Nemec borderline. While he's killing it in Slovakia I'd keep him a year maybe 5 games TOPS to give him a taste of NHL hockey but he stays in Belleville.

Slafkovsky in the AHL with 5 games maximum tops but plays the rest of the season in Belleville.

Honestly with how covid affected player development last year for the CHL I don't think any of them are NHL ready yet. I don't want to ruin the prospect though.

That's what he asked.

Nemec and Jiri are most NHL ready prospects, imo, I think maybe even ahead of Wright and Slaf/Cooley.

Doesn't mean any of them should play in the NHL next year, though. Think Wright will play next year off NHL readiness hype and 1st overall.

Nope, not a chance.

You stay away from your coaches kid. It’s never good for the team or the kid - let him pave his own path.
There is no way DJ is the coach by the time his kid is 22. No coach lasts that long.

I think Rutger McGroarty will be the guy for the Sens. Considering where the Sens will finish he will be a solid target. He had a fractured hand this season, and possibly a few other injuries and still ended up 2nd on the USNTDP in goals and 4th in points. It is possible that he could have lead his team in both categories if it wasn't for that injury.

I think Nemec could very well end up as a better offensive defenceman that Jiricek, but I prefer Jiricek's overall game, size & mean streak. Both defencemen are good defensively, but IMO Jiricek is the harder hitter, harder to play against & hits to hurt & Ottawa needs that on D.

And because Jiricek is already 6'3", 205 lbs they also need some size on the backend with Holden & Hamonic as UFAs likely leaving before the end of next season. We have no idea where Ottawa will end up drafting or where Jiricek will end up being drafted, but hopefully Ottawa has a shot at drafting him.

Considering the Sens like physical power forwards, big hitters, agitators and super pests, here are a few names from the later rounds that the Sens might be interested in: Brady Stonehouse, Joshua Davis, Liam Arnsby, Nathan Poole, Gleb Veremyev.

I will update this list as I come across other players that fit this description.
Add forwards: Rilen Kovacevic
Add d men: Joe Arntsen

Still think Gauthier is more likely given the tremendous emphasis the Sens staff under Mann has placed on skating, but McGroarty could be a darkhorse.

If we pick in the 8-10 range and Gauthier is still on the board, I'd be surprised if we passed on him.

Having said this I'm fully expecting some team in the top 10 to fall in love with him due to his amazing tools and convince themselves he can be moved to center full-time and be that big #1 center every team dreams of having, so he could be taken before we pick.

I could see the pick coming down to a debate over Cutter Gauthier and Rutger McGroarty. Depending on where we end up picking and which other players are gone those two would be really solid choices and would be consistent with the Sens draft strategy.

I am not sure which one is the better pick though. Both are physical two way players with solid skill. Gauthier has a bit more size but like you said he is a noticeably better skater. I have been a fan of McGroarty since seeing those clips of him from Wagon Hockey before he joined the USNTDP. He reminded me of Mark Stone. McGroarty is the captain of the US U18 team and I get a bit of a Brady Tkachuk/Mason McTavish vibe that he is going to be a clutch go to guy as part of a championship team. Would you put Gauthier in that same category? I also wonder how McGroarty's injury impacted his production and where he would be ranked without it.

I am a fan of both players and would love to have both in the prospect pool but it most likely is the case that we only have a chance to draft one of them. How would you compare the two? Also assuming you had a chance to interview them or learn some inside information hypothetically, can you think of any information that if it was the case that you might switch your ranking of the two?

VERY safe pick. Don’t think he has much upside.
Think a better Shane Bowers.

I would barf at picking him where we are. Assuming however we somehow pick at say 11-14 not soo much.
