I think we can get a solid prospect at the 7 spot. What do you folks think the gap between Nemec and Jiricek is like?

Non existent. They are in the same tier. They are the Sanderson and Drysdale of this year's draft. Maybe higher ceilings.

I definitely agree we can get a solid prospect at 7, but the top 5 are in a class of their own, imo.

The bolded part is nonsense. If Boucher and Kleven pan out, they damn sure will be in the top 25% in athleticism among NHL players.

This is obviously a subjective concept, but what atheletic measures do you feel puts these two player over the top in terms of athleticism?

Speed? Agility? Hand-eye coordinationg? Strength?

Like I said "athelticism" is a subjective measure but I don't see any raw attribute that puts these two in the elite strata among NHL players. There is no shame in that; if they can play then who cares.

Starting to think more and more Warren won’t be available in the second… I’ve been working on my draft rankings and Warren ranks quite high.

Not super familiar with next year’s draft outside of the projected top ~5. If we push for a playoff spot and pick around the 12-18 range, what kind of shape are we in?

The hype appears to be off the charts but I can’t tell if it’s warranted or just the usual overhyping every draft gets.

If we happen to suck again and pick in the top 10, will we probably be getting a ridiculous player? (Pierre please don’t screw us and put together a respectable team this summer)

Next years draft looks to be quite deep.

Two projected franchise talents at the top of the draft with many others who look oike they could contend for a top 5 spot. Definitely one of the best WHL classes in recent memory.

You want to keep your 1st rounder next year.

Too early to say exactly but it does look pretty nasty. It has a bunch of big elite centers at the top. Always very valuable. Even if the rest of the draft is pretty average after that, having those 7 or 8 at the top (Carlsson, Fantilli, Dvorsky, Yager, Ritchie, Smith, Stramel, maybe Danielson), plus Michkov and Bedard, will knock everyone else back a few spots, so you're getting top 10-calibre players into the late teens and top 20-calibre players just about through the 1st round. Any of those centers would be right in the mix for top 3-5 in the 2021 or 2022 drafts.

I have a good feeling about this years draft because I have no expectations and didnt follow it whatsoever. The hockey gods are going to throw us a bone and snag us a lottery pick, and we are getting a dynamo.

Like a step into the lineup on day one and multiply the hype that signing Giroux brings by 10 kind of dynamo.

I actually dont want it to be Shane Wright, but I feel like were getting Shane Wright folks. And not at #1 either (high drama). And he will be incredible for us.

You heard it here first.

Alright boys, been working on this for a little while. Decided to just post the lottery picks since that’s where the Sens will likely be drafting. I haven’t been able to do write-ups for the top-32 yet. I’ll get to the rest soon. Feel free to ask any questions, ill make sure to answer.

#1: C Shane Wright - Kingston, OHL
Don’t think I can say anything that is hasn’t already been said. It’s Shane Wright. He is the best prospect for this draft. He is a cornerstone player you can build your franchise around, best to not overthink this one.

#2: C Logan Cooley - USNTDP, USHL

Talented two-way forward - great skater with impressive hockey IQ. Reads the play well and is good at anticipating where the puck is and where it will be.

#3: LW Juraj Slafkovsky - TPS, Liiga

Had his coming out party at the 2022 olympics where he was named as the tournament MVP. High upside winger is a good skater with a tremendous shot.

#4 RD Simon Nemec - Nitra MHC, Slovakia

Mature beyond his age. Nemec is the top defender in this class. His poise and confidence is what really stands out when on the ice. Has great positioning and is smooth skater. He is everything you want in a modern day defender.

#5 C Matt Savoie - Winnipeg, WHL

Skilled, quick and plays with an edge. Savoie works the perimeter really well, he pulls defenders in who are thinking he’s going to shoot only to make a sick pass to one of his teammates. He reminds me a-lot of Tim Stützle during his draft year.

#6 RD David Jiricek - HC Škoda Plzen, Czechia

Devastating injury at the WJC derailed his season. Jiricek is a steady, smooth skating defender that has tremendous edge-work and one the best shots in the draft from the blueline. Your prototypical two-way defender.

#7 RW Joakim Kemell - JYP, Liiga

Kemmel had a real good start to the season in the Liiga but has cooled off since the WJC. Kemell is very competitive with a wicked shot and plays a rather physical game.

#8 RD Tristan Luneau - Gatineau, QMJHL

1/2 of Gatineau’s two high end right handed defenders eligible for this years draft. Luneau possesses very high defensive hockey IQ where his stick work and gap control really stand out. He has a good first pass and projects similarly to Charlie McAvoy at the next level.

#9 RD Noah Warren - Gatineau, QMJHL

The other half to Gatineau’s high end RHD eligible this year. Defencemen like Warren are difficult to find in todays NHL. Physical, 6’5” fluid skating right shot defender that is a wall once the puck gets into his own end. Warren has some questions about his offence, yes - however you won’t find many prospects that have his combination of size, skating and physicality - he’s a unicorn in that regard. He really had his coming out party at the prospects game and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him taken in the top-15 now given how the NHL is trending back to big, physical defenders.

#10 LW Cutter Gauthier USNTDP, USHL

The big forward is an intimidating presence whenever he hits the ice. He has a deadly wrist shot and can beat you from wherever on the ice. Gauthier is a good distributor of the puck and plays a solid, physical game.

#11 RW Jagger Firkus - Moose Jaw, WHL

This is a guy that continues to impress me and has rocketed up my draft list. Small but ultra competitive forward with a deceptively good shot. His speed and skill is on display the moment he touches the ice.

#12 RW Danila Yurov - Metallurg, KHL

Yurov is a smart two way player that has excellent playmaking abilities. At times it looks like Yurov thinks the play 2 steps ahead of his opposition because of his high hockey IQ.

#13 LD Denton Mateychuk - Moose Jaw, WHL

Undersized yet dynamic defender. Mateychuk is at best in transition and having the offence flow through his stick. Mature and able to change up his game based on what his team needs him to do.

#14 W/C Filip Mesar - HK Poprad, Slovakia

Skilled, smooth skating, creative forward that excels as a puck carrier. Can get caught doing too much sometimes but is good at utilizing his teammates.

#15 LD Pavel Mintyukov - Saginaw, OHL

Elite skating rearguard that can really do everything. Has fantastic awareness and poise when the puck is on his stick. Able to find passing lanes and stay calm when pressured in a breakout or at the offensive blueline.

Too small? Says 5'9 could be 5'8.
August birthday (so not far off eligibility the following year)
4th round 104 OA to the flames.

We should not be letting Jordan Dumais past their own pick in the 3rd if he falls that far even Tampas pick in the 2nd. Why not gamble with our 3rd or 4th pick in this draft. We have picked a lot of what if this improves or that improves projects; and taken flyers on players with not much more than size going for them.. He's under the radar and that's most likely all about his size. Not likely to happen but a team like the Leafs will take him and he'll light it up for them.

FCHockey Mock Draft (7 rounds .. I picked 4th) as usual their rankings are a bit ?? but .. just for fun anyway,
Most of you will be familiar with all the names here but I wasn't. Actually doing these mocks kinda forces you into some research on players in the later rounds so it has some benefit I guess.
Zhilkin was ranked 31 by BMAC ; Hugo Havelid 1.34 GAA .954 SV% in the Swedish J20 ; smaller but token goalie pick; Tyler Dunbar UND commit; Tyson Zimmer turns 18 in Sept. Doing pretty well in the W; Dylan James ranked 55 by Button; UND Commit.
I probably missed on someone prolific in the later rounds but I like the first 4 picks.

According to @GermanSpitfire , he has Warren ranked 9th overall and Firkus ranked #11...this would be a steal of a draft if he is right about them.

9th is Incredibly, incredibly, incredibly high for Warren at the very least, much more so than Boucher would have been last year. Firkus I haven’t seen outside of the prospects game, but if he were picked in the 1st it would be higher than expected.

I’ve been outspoken about Warren since last year so me ranking him that high shouldn’t be that big of a surprise. I’m a big believer in his game.

As for Firkus, he has had alot of upward momentum in the scouting community as of late. At the beginning of the year there were some concerns to his skating but since the turn of the new year he has found a new gear. The prospects game was a coming out party for Firkus for sure, he was far and away the best player in the game and he raised quite a bit of eyebrows. His game is a mixture between Kyle Connor and Brayden Point IMO and you should see him rank higher in others prospect lists as the year progressesz

I’ve been watching Warren since he was 14, am a huge fan of his, and have heard a lot of chatter about him over the year, 9th is about a full round ahead of even the highest I’ve heard about him as recent as 5 days ago. That’s extremely high praise for him, more power to you for sticking it

That is definitely an exaggeration but I agree that the rankings aren't set in stone like last year where there was a consensus top 9.

I'm not liking what I'm seeing from a lot of the guys ranked in the top 10 compared to previous years.

Could change my mind by draft day but I think if there's a year to trade a top 10 pick it's this year.
