Logan Morrison will be highly coveted and I'm hoping the Leafs can throw him an ELC.

Kinda puts to bed the trading down 13 places in the late 1st is worth a 7 theory considering we got a 4 to trade down 16 in the third

Yeah.. Just last year, Nashville traded from 40 to 27, almost exactly how far we went down and it cost them pick 51.

I would be fine not breaking the bank and securing 2 of
Matt Murray
Eric Comrie
Campbell
Talbot
Blackwood
Reimer

And then addressing goaltending at the trade deadline if need be.

You expect a developed player in the 2nd round? Look at many centers, they have bad faceoff%, get much better. Especially our coaching staff who brought us to the best faceoff team in the league I am sure they can help him there.

Maybe trust one of the most well funded scouting departments on who fills a need for us.
Is this the same scouting dept that told Dubas to get Richie and Mrazek and Foligno

Disappointed no players were moved for picks.
Dubas love Holl so that was never happening

You're being sassy, but technically, no
Pro scouting and amateur scouting are directed by Eric Joyce and Wes Clark, respectively, and have different scouts in each department, with different goals and metrics, looking at entirely different players at entirely different stages of career and development, for entirely different needs (though, each answering to Shanahan, Dubas, and Scouting Operations Director Reid Mitchell, of course)

Sassy is my mind set today……lol

My only criticism, since I know as much about these picks as you all do, is that we didn’t land Del Bel Belluz (for obvious reasons)

I like those home run swings on huge players in late picks.

Yup, so no worries going into FA. Leafs have 10M plus as you say they have players that have value if more space is needed.

They obviously don't have as much value as our GM thought they did because he couldn't off load them

He didn't. Not yet anyway, but as he said they do have value so if he were to try, he could gain cap space. He has the whole summer.

Or there is no pressing rush to take the first offer like a dumb rookie GM would.

Spoiler they don't actually have value
Spoiler......

Beau Jelsma and Samuel Mayer are my main targets. Jelsma was literally the only guy left on my top 100, and Mayer was the only one left in my top 125 who I believed deserved to be truly ranked there.

Jelsma has some great tools and work ethic. Tool box may not be there to match it and he is not big, but he is the kind of guy that can make it even if he can only play a simple, north-south hard-working game. If he finds a way to get more out of his tools and bulks up, he will be a high draft pick in 2023.

Mayer was a late bloomer but he can move, he is physical, he can chew up tough minutes, and while he is clearly a stay-at-home guy in the NHL, he has enough puck skill and offensive ability to make it as an NHL today.

There were a number of smaller forwards who I thought could have been worth a swing in the late rounds: Fimis, La Starza, Stonehouse, Van Steensel, Delic, Lavoie, Vidicek, Konyen, Schurmann, Knuble, and Kvochko. I think all of them have solid processing ability or work ethic, but they need to improve their tools. Far too vanilla (or worse) to make it as sub 6'0" players. Strength and finding a way to be more dynamic (which differs for each prospect on that list) will be the main focus for this group. Some need to improve their skating as well. Although every single one of them has the potential to take a massive leap in development and become solid 3rd or 4th round prospects in next year's draft.

The only other late round targets I had were defensemen Rodwin Dionicio and David Moravec and goalies Jan Spunar + Hugo Havelid. Dionicio needs a ton of work on his skating in pretty much every facet, so I don't blame teams for deciding to wait back and see if that takes a step forward. If it does, I see him being a hot commodity next year. Moravec, much like the forwards mentioned above, is not huge (6'0"-ish) and he is fairly vanilla. Plus he was a very early birthday. However, he was playing full time against men and he looked good in the WJC last year despite being one of the younger guys there. Moravec was good enough to be taken this year, and maybe if he can gain a little bit more offensive confidence in the Czech league, he will be taken next year.

Jan Spunar struggled at the WJC and inconsistency probably kills him more than anything. Spurts of looking really good, followed by spurts of seriously struggling. He is replacing Taylor Gauthier on a powerhouse Portland team this year, so he will be in a great spot to show why he should have been taken in this year's draft. Havelid is just small. I don't think there is anything else that is really that bad about him, but the size is tough to get over and I don't think many teams were overly excited about Enroth 2.0. Figured San Jose may do him a solid since they drafted his twin though.

I do not care much for Lundell, Fenenko, Fleming, Sova, Morrison (unless it is for an AHL contract), or Johnsen...
Lundell doesn't look impressive in any fashion. Sova has skating, and Fleming has shown flashes of some good tools too, but both lack any concept of how to get anything out of their tools (they should have a serious talk with Logan Morrison). Both still need additional development in a number of other areas too. Fenenko could be Sward 2.0, but given the 'meh' upside I can see teams waiting to see if he can take the jump before spending a pick or contract on him. Morrison has an elite toolbox, and he can run a masterclass about how to get the most out of a limited set of tools. Unfortunately, his limited set of tools likely hold him back from the NHL and he will need a ton of time to develop each skill to a respectable NHL level. Maybe he can be a late bloomer, however, so he is a prime AHL-contract candidate if you can convince him. Don't know much about Johnsen, and it is nice that he got a taste of SHL action this year, but smaller guy and doesn't have standout production for Norway (considering the level of competition) or the Swedish U20 league.
