I might be more inclined to make the safer pick at no. 25 if everything is about equal context wise. We already have the star pieces what we lack is bottom 6 depth and goaltending. We need some guys that we can slot into our 3rd line that are actually good, not a revolving door of useless.

I'd rather use whatever later picks we have to swing for the fences.
Picking a guy who you project as a third liner/pairing isn’t a good use of a 1st round pick. Ever.

So what’s wrong with “Danila Yurov” or “Brad Lambert” that no one’s touched yet? They’re supposed to go @ #11 & #14 in the consensus ranking fcol!

I saw ginger and initially thought it was Firkus.

It is a bit early for Gaucher, but not a terrible reach.

LOL I am the opposite. Not impressed by Pickering nearly as much. Very raw in many regards, and the only thing that really stands out about him is his size and his skating. He is not overly physical and uses his reach more, but his iffy reads negate a lot of his strengths.

He really struggled at the WJC. Most guys on Canada not named Bedard did, but for a guy with as much hype as he did, you would think he could challenge for top defenseman despite that.
Yup. How I see it after liking Pickering more in December.

Pickering's defensive reads are going to limit him more than anything in Bichsel's game. No surprise the latter's gone.

This was the logic behind the Frederick Gauthier pick. Low ceiling but high floor.

Yurov's a Russian; there are questions about being able to get Russian prospects right now because of Ukraine. And apparently Brad Lambert has the laziness problems that we frequently complain about when it comes to William Nylander...

Gaucher and Del Bel Belluz are two 1st rd (projected) guys I would bet money bust.

I'm aware of the Gauthier selection. That was a stupid pick to being with seeing that we didn't even have a decent core of stars in place so going for the safe pick made no sense.

The safe players don't always end up like Gauthiers. Look at Crouse for example.

He is more physical and a better offensive player.

His ceiling is not that low. I would say Boone Jenner with more raw offensive talent is a fair comparison for him (whoever that may be). High end 3rd liner early on who could end up having a few seasons as a 2C once he hits his prime.
