I'll add that if, at the Combine, they took Lekki out for dinner, it means that the trade talks for a pick between 5-10 were pretty positive and they were confident a deal was feasible.

A trade could already be done for some times now and just kept everything underwrap to make a splash at the draft OR Habs simply want to make sure their guy is still there after #6. The dots seems to be connecting themselves right now...we'll see.

Clearly the meeting with Slaf is to lay the groundwork for when he becomes a UFA so that Montreal gets an inside track and signs him in his prime after he's developed away from the MTL craziness :sarcasm:

Possible Theory: Habs and Sens have a deal in place already. Sens buy out Colin White who Habs Will pick up on the cheap to replace Dvorak who they will trade to the Sens along with Anderson for the 7OA. Maybe other pieces too (Murray dump?, 26OA?)

I'm just spitballing here, but is it possible the habs plan to meet with Slaf tomorrow morning to let him know that if he is the pick, to be prepared that he may hear a lot of boos? Probably best to get ahead of that if they do plan on taking him.

I really hope this isn't the case though as I'm Team Wright all the way

Whoever we pick, if the fans end up booing, we are the worst of the worst.

this is a big possibility. I'm thinking we take Colin White without buyout and could trade Anderson + Dvorak / Drouin at the draft

I don't think that's the case. If they wanted to do something like that, they would have done a lot more preparing the fan base ahead of time.

They've been pretty consistent in not telling anyone and wanting it to be a surprise the moment it is drafted.

Maybe i'm just biased but it feels like the top players in this draft are lobbying so much harder to be taken first than other close drafts. Like they not only want to go first overall but they want to play in Montreal especially
I mean you either get to go to one of the best cities in North America where you’re revered, or you go to a shithole boring state, or a 5,000 seat college rink where no one gives a shit about you. I can see why.

Contrarily, Mathias Brunet who wants Slafkovsky says the meeting means nothing.

He’s suggesting it might be an attempt at setting up a decoy for NJ.

Is anyone really getting fooled by this? A decoy attempt that several pundits have been openly discussing for days. What a decoy.

I see no issue in meeting with any of Wright, Cooley and Slaf the morning of the draft. They've been involved in this process as much as the organization did and deserve to be told that they will or will not be the pick and that their future is bright in the league and eager to compete against them.

That's professionalism and making sure the kids know what they're worth IMO.

And warn them to not pull a Zadina cause we will make them pay muahahahha

If they were really leaning towards him, I find it hard to believe that they only wait to meet with him at the combine and then the morning of the draft when they’ve been in consistent contact with Wright. Maybe they will take him but this doesn’t make much sense to me. Since they want to solicit NJ to give them something, I’d assume they’d want more public meetings with him.

Whatever. Let’s FF to tomorrow

Who do you think will announce the pick? Suzuki, Suzuki + Caufield, Hughes, Gorton, Marie Phillips Poulin?

I doubt it’ll be Hughes or Gorton…they would probably want more of a reaction by having someone else make the actual pick.

Exactly. I do not believe in a decoy also. It would be a very bad try for a decoy.
