Well, if some folks think Formenton is a goner, what are the odds of packaging 7th and Formenton to move up to 4th, and hopefully pick up which of the two RDs is left?

Or would teams laugh at that offer?
I don't think I'd make that deal. Formenton should be our 3LW for many years.

You are in the wrong thread.

This just in…trades happen on draft day. Not sure if you’ve heard Ottawa is shopping their 7OA?

Formenton is worth a 1st, a team like Edmonton would trade Poo-party and their 1st for Forms

If the top 6 goes exactly according to Bob's list, who do you guys pick at 7 between Kemell, Lekkerimaki, Savoie, Kasper and Korchinski?
Lekkerimaki would be my choice. My decision is based only on a small amount of watching him play and a bunch of reading articles though (to be clear).

Lekkerimaki. I don't think he makes it past Columbus though.

He's worth more than a 1st. You hope a first ends up being this good. He is gonna get better people understand that right? 17 goals none on the powrplay for a rookie isn't the norm.

The reason they haven't talked contract is pretty obvious. Put 2 and 2 together. This has nothing to do with hockey. If this is the actual case he has no value.

I'd take Savoie if the top six plays out as expected. Kasper seems to be the most popular choice here and I'd be fine with him as well. I'd actually prefer any of the five guys listed over anything Dorion's likely to acquire by trading the pick.

I worry Kasper doesn't have the offensive upside that we need and he'll likely top out as a 3rd line, defensive role player. We're at a stage where quite honestly we need to hit a home run with a high end top 6 guy. They blew it last year with Boucher so it feels like there's more pressure this year to acquire that player.

I think that's a very fair offer, if not overkill. Not saying other teams would do it, but I could see that getting us as high as 2nd. Odds are there is a team in the top 5 who views the difference between their pick and 7 as pretty small. If one of those teams views Formenton as a future top 6er, or even a real a really good 3rd liner, its a pretty easy trade to make imo.

That said, I would play hardball with Forms if needed. Get him on a 1-3yr deal and re-evaluate down the road (unless he is a key piece in a major acquisition).

Id be shocked if one of the consensus top 6 doesn't fall to us honestly. How often does the top of the draft go exactly as expected?

I'm guessing Jiricek falls to us and he is Chabots partner within 3 years.

It always goes exactly as planned when our pick is after the "consensus". Lassi, Boucher, and probably tonight.

I would argue in 2021 we picked outside a consensus top 12 or so, that's on us not the rest of the league.

In 2019, we picked Lassi at 19, there definitely wasn't a consensus top 18. It was wide open as to who may have been picked.

I remember how the entire board was in agreement that Seider was who we wanted in 2019 - yet we ended with Lassi.
Seider was expected to be gone before we were up, yes Detroit grabbed him earlier than expected, but he was never going to make it to 19

I mean it did exactly that last year

I don’t recall that, and Seider went 6th.
Seider went 6th yes but leading up to the draft he was being ranked all over the place leading up to the draft. Nonetheless Ottawa never got the opportunity to select him.

Oy....I think I know what you're getting at with 2 and 2 together...and I hope you're wrong about that.

So, how about what The Devilish Buffoon said and that package moves us up to second overall? Would that be worth it? Or is everything up in the air with him?

That would definitely be the best case scenario.

Really, all I want is to grab one of those defensemen. A kid who has a decent shot at being a legit top pairing RD would definitely be a huge win for the organization.

If I'm not mistaken, the top 18 were exactly the same as McKenzie's list, just in a different order.

I believe there was a pretty clear top 9 last year from most lists. We went way off the list after those 9 were gone but it went pretty much as expected till our pick.

every one of those rankings are ahead of where we drafted. They aren't all over the place either, Central scouting is EU only, the rest are within 3 spots. He was a late riser though so rankings from earlier in the year were lower on him.
