So did Anaheim. Their scout hinted at K’Andre being their top guy
I think at one point we had posters who referenced separate sources that all of the teams between 22 and 26 wanted Miller. I can’t speak to the others but my Minnesota source was a team scout. Miller wasn’t his scouting responsibility but he knew the Wild board.

Gordie Clark was always planning to retire. He actually wanted to retire last year but they gave him a smaller role to keep him on board.

It's interesting that they got rid of Clark's son, but not Davidson's brother and son-in-law.
I think they long ago got rid of Davidson’s brother. Chris Morehouse seems pretty valuable and worth keeping.

I remember at the time I think it was EF who said NYR leap frogged ANA and MIN specifically

I definitely think the Jets opt to give us this year’s 2nd rounder as opposed to the 2023 pick.

I would love to come away with two names on this list. Any of the names above the dotted lines would be exceptional value.

I’m not interesting in wings for this draft. Time to stock positions of need.

I hope the Jets give us the 2023 pick instead.
I'm somewhat split on this, but think I'd prefer to have the pick this year. Whichever player we choose with the St. Louis pick will be 1 year more developed than whomever we pick with the 2023 2nd. And there's more time between now and the 2023 draft to recoup picks in other deals. Also, if we have the pick in 2022 vs 2023, it's more likely that we use the pick rather than trade it for a player.

Corey Pronman did a mock draft of the first two rounds with an anonymous NHL source who is involved in the scouting process.

They alternated making the picks.

Pronman picked

63. New York Rangers (Pick by Pronman): Topi Ronni, C, Tappara-Finland Jr.

Ronni is a big center with good puck skills and vision who can play at both ends of the ice. The Rangers could use more young depth down the middle and he’d be a quality add at No. 63.

They had Winnipeg using the Blues 2nd round pick in this draft.

55. Winnipeg (Pick by Pronman): Calle Odelius, LHD, Djurgarden-Sweden Jr.

Odelius is an excellent skater who can make a good first pass. He’ll add young depth to the defense group in Winnipeg and give them highly coveted high-end mobility on the back end.

I prefer the pick this year. It gives us two 2nd rounders in a draft where we don't have many picks. Allows is to trade back into the 1st.

Next year's draft is great, don't get me wrong, but the hype IMO is mostly centered around the top of the draft where we won't be picking anyway. Once you get to the late 1st and early 2nd round, it mostly evens out with other drafts.

I would be good with that pick.

Out of curiosity, where did Nathan Gaucher go?

The kid we want is McConnell-Barker who went right after our pick in this mock. Had really good scoring numbers given his role in Soo, and he’ll be the go-to guy next year on offense. Natural center that’s a really strong skater and has a good, but still developing, two-way game

The last few years the Rangers have done well in the USHL. Hopefully it continues to be a theme. K'Andre in the 1st round, Jones in the 3rd, Berard in the 5th.. Calgary got Fox in the 3rd, just keep going back to that well. As it sits, no first, a late 2nd and no 3rd this year, so definitely need to find some good value later in the draft.

Pronmans mock draft this morning left Moldenhauer out of the first 2 rounds, Craig Buttons final rankings this morning had him down in the 3rd at #72. Adam Ingrim all the way at #83, the Lucius brother at #95. Great value there. There's a bunch of interesting overagers this year, a couple on the wishlist, Jacob Guévin and Jeremy Wilmer. Odd that Guévin didn't get drafted last season, Wilmer is a little more understandable, really undersized, some rankings had him as high as a 2nd rounder. The USHL is pretty much a stepping stone toward college, guys don't usually stay there for an extra year or 2. Both chose to stick around an extra season and looks to have paid off. Wilmer was awarded the USHLs forward of the year, following in the footsteps of Sean Farrel the year before. Farrel also stayed the extra season, won player of the year and just notched a real solid college season under his belt. 4th rounder to Montréal. Abruzzese is in a similar mold, 4th rounder to Toronto in 2019. That's the area I'd be looking for Wilmer in.

Obviously these guys aren't sure things but when you're talking about middle round picks and late round picks thats the sort of value you're looking for in that range... especially when you don't have much ammo early in the draft

Chris Morehouse and John Lilley are running the drafts. Morehouse would take the CHL player over the Finn.

So for instance some of their excerpts on Topi Ronni (who Pronman has us taking at 63 in his mock, and who HP has at 65), here's some stuff:

"It took us some time to figure him out as a player, as we were a bit disappointed in his first event of the season (HlinkaGretzky tournament in August) as he was not as good as we thought he could be offensively, and he didn’t blow us away with his skating, either...His play away from the puck became his best asset when projecting him for the next level. Ronni has excellent off-puck anticipation to read plays...His anticipation also helps him intercept passes in the neutral zone, where he also finds himself in the right place at the right time...Ronni has one of the best active sticks in this draft class. It’s not only useful when it comes time to intercept passes, but his ability to strip players off the puck is simply incredible...If you want the best visual example of this, go watch his game against Sweden in the semi-final at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship. Time after time, he would use his stick to intercept and steal pucks from opposing players and it was very impressive to watch. He’s a smart, committed player in his zone, and this is how we project his eventual NHL role. He goes a great job supporting down low, often looking like a 3rd defenseman on the ice. He also has a good sense of urgency if he sees one of his defensemen in trouble; he’ll get there to support him right away."

I'll say this, the guy who really intrigues me in this draft is Adam Sykora. Not a ton of NHL Top 6-level offense, but he's one of the best defensive forwards in the draft, works his tail off, and is an excellent skater.

HP has him rated as the 30th best player in the draft, Button at 48, Pronman at 62 (but went at 44 in Pronman's mock draft with an NHL scout)

This guy did a write-up on him.
