No brainer to be aggressive and go after him and Meyers and get them into the mix. Our C depth is pretty non existent.
At least our NHL depth is better than the Bruins. It could be worse. We do need center depth at the NHL roster and the future Ranger

I haven's seen either player so take no position on who would be better. But to dshae19's point, here is McBain's college career.

He exploded this year. Did he get better or is he taking advantage of being older and stronger?

His senior year jump is the thing that gives me pause. Makes me think that he will be closer to his career average in the AHL and even less in the NHL. What he will really do is up to him, but I would be hesitant to use a first or the better second on him. Don't know if he is good defensively or on faceoffs. If so, 4th C wouldn't be a bad thing. I just don't think he's going to be worth the recent hype.

McBain signs with Arizona after trade:

Rangers After Dartmouth Goalie Clay Stevenson
According to the Athletic's Caps reporter, the Caps and the Rangers are the teams after Dartmouth sophomore goalie Clay Stevenson. Stevenson was ranked as one the the three top free agent NCAA goalies by Chris Peters. Peters: Minnesota's Ben Meyers tops college free agent list - Daily Faceoff. He had a .922 save percentage and a 2.7 goals against average for a bad Dartmouth team. He didn't play as a freshman because of the covid shutdown. Two years ago he was the BCHL goalie of the year.

Highlights from last night's NHL/CHL Top Prospects game. Obviously, the Rangers won't be picking early, but a couple players stood out; the goalie Reid Dyck from (I think) the Swift Current Broncos. The NYR likely won't be looking to taking a goalie early, but he looked good last night. Connor Geekie loked good as well.

Denver is Playing Umass Lowell tonight at 9pm. Game is on ESPN.

#25 Matt Crasa on Umass Lowell is a local kid who Brendan Clark has been scouting for NYR. Rookie of the year candidate.

Rangers lose out on Dartmouth goalie, Clay Stevenson.

Matt Crasa and Bobby Trivigno most likely signed later this spring???
Friday night will end the college career of either Bobby Trivigno or Ben Meyers of Minnesota. Expect a signing from that player sometime next week. Th other player would become available if his team loses in the regional final on Sunday. The NCAA championship weekend doesn't start until April 7.

The Bobby Trivigno watch has officially started.

Ben Meyers is really good. He would be #1 for the Rangers center prospect pool if he signed with the team. Unfortunately the other 31 teams know that as well. He's from Minnesota and played for Minnesota.

Ben Myers not available for another ten days.

The Rangers have been associated with at least two goalie free agents who signed elsewhere. Chris Peters ranked three goalies as his top free agents. Two have signed leaving Western Michigan's Brandon Bussi, whose team was eliminated this weekend.

I feel like Trivigno would've been an instant signee here if this were 5 years ago considering he's a local kid who grew up a Rangers fan but now with how much depth and young talent we have I'm not so sure. He might look at our roster and see no path to the NHL. How much will that outweigh the childhood dream of playing for the Rangers? We'll see, but he would be a nice player to add.

Question. We are currently sitting at 49 contracts. Doesn't that mean we can only make 1 more UDFA signing before July 1st? Is there any way for us to offload a contract? I see a lot of college UDFA names being mentioned but it looks like we only have room for one more. Hope I'm wrong.

It depends on when the contract starts. We can sign one more player with the contract starting this season. If the contract starts next year, it doesn't matter, as we'll have plenty of contracts coming off the books.

Appreciate the response. Thanks for clarifying! I knew we have a bunch of FA's coming up for next season but I was worried we were going to be limited to one more signing here with the college season coming to a close.

In our top 6 currently, as a wing, sure, but if he’s cheap bottom 6 wing depth we have plenty of room for him. We are cap squeezed, an ELC talented bottom 6 winger is a win for us.

Oh I 100% agree with you. I'm just thinking from Trivigno's point of view he may feel his path here is more difficult than it would be elsewhere. I hope not though, I'd love to add him.

One thing is that some of that young depth could use another year at lower levels. Othmann and Cuylle might be AHL bound. Bernard stays in college. Kravtsov likely gone.

There are spots on RW. Vatrano likely isn't coming back. Is Motte re-signed? You've basically got Panarin, Kreider, Laf, Kakko. Hunt and Reaves are 4th liners.

There is definitely room for an ELC on the 3rd line. Could give more wiggle room than expected.

If a Rangers fan is interested in being an Islander, I'm good. He was never truly a Ranger fan

Unless he's such a Rangers fan that he's giving the Islanders fans false hope and rubbing it in by signing with us.
