They're both giant men that can fly, so that is already rare company. Edvinsson's skating is amazing all around - he's got top end agility and pivots, whereas Bichsel is more of a straight line guy. In some ways Bichsel shows more polish at this point, people were shy on Edvinsson because he was more of a mess. I don't see Bichsel having Edvinsson's sky high upside but it is still probably around top ten upside in this draft. Imagine a Zadorov type who can skate fast and move the puck, every team would want that in their top four.
Yeah a mobile, better-passing Zadorov sounds about right. Could be a coup.

Yes. Pronman just polled scouts (the latest in the Athletic) and at least a couple of them said they'd take Gauthier top 3.
Yeah that was a good read, I've been thinking for a week or two that Gauthier might be gone by 6 but I would be elated with either Nemec or Jiricek so that works for me.

Let's say the top 3 are Wright, Slaf, Gauthier. Does Seattle go Cooley? They already have Beniers and might want a top RHD. Let's say one goes there. I'd expect Philly to take Cooley leaving us with one of the dmen.

Wonder what Seattle would want to go from 6 to 4 for Cooley, assuming they rate both RHD similarly and would be fine with either.

I know everyone has Cooley locked in to Arizona, but is there any likelihood that Gauthier, an Arizona kid, goes #3?
I won't say "no chance" on this one as some experts/scouts/execs think Gauthier could go as high as #3. I think Cooley has the higher ceiling and although not ideal size, certainly appears to have all the traits of a center. I don't see how he drops past #3. I mean, NJ could take him at #2. Always easier to slide a C to a W and that would give them tons of options but I think a RHD or Slaf has to be the #2.

I hope if we move up jarmo plays hardball with low ball offers like 3rd or 2nd round picks. I think this draft has 2 handfuls of nice players with no superstars.

I really want to stay where we are. I’ll Take 2 nice players and move on with life happily

Sounds like a stratey that has almost no chance of working.

I understand that all of the top prospects would have made team Slovakia, but Slafkovsky can boast more than that. He was going up against NHL defenseman and beating them.
You're right but Juraj Slafkovsky already has 6'4"/224 lbs now. For example Jiříček has 6'3"/189 lbs, Gauthier has 6'2"/189 lbs.
You know, as Slovak, I wish you were right. But I don't want to be disappointed.

NJ would need more I think. More or less fair for the other two teams though.

Not terrible for Columbus if they think they cant get their guy at 6. Josh Anderson moves you up 20 spots though even if NJ would probably love him if he stayed healthy

Call me crazy but while Josh Anderson may still have some game, that contract still sucks based on his style and the remaining length. Montreal is already over the Cap and need to move salary and make changes. As it is, again, my opinion, and I've stated it before, when you can get the guy at 6 that is not considered marginally different than the guy at 1 or even 2, the top of the draft is flat. I realize we would get 26 back also but the odds of 2 and 26 contributing as much as 6 and 12 is much smaller, then factor in the flat top end of the draft.... I just can't see doing this move.

Montreal should need to sweeten the pot to move Anderson without salary retention and there are limits to how many contracts they can retain on so having one on the books for 5 years isn't appealing to them. I'm not bailing them out and NJD certainly would want more if they are moving #2 (It's their right - even though I don't value it as highly as others).

Just don't see this as a good deal for either NJ or CBJ but Montreal benefits for sure. Hard pass from me. If I'm moving 6 and/or 12, I'm going after a package that gets an established young center or one that has higher upside. I'm thinking more like Hischier or Mercer. Both would offer CBJ something more and long term.

Depending how much we like the pick at #2 versus the pick at #6, I don't hate this deal. We get our guy plus we only move down 14 from 12 to 26. I'd think there'd still be a pretty good player available there.

Is Montreal retaining half? Otherwise it's awful for NJ.

For the Jackets it obviously depends on how they value the top guy on their list. I wouldn't make the trade, but I can't speak for the guys who do the real scouting.

Jarmo always seems to highly rate kids who play against men. With the teams lack of size I wonder how he views Slafkovsky

I dont see any clear reason why we would trade 6th and 12th pick for 2nd and 26th.
Top 6players in this draft isnt between huge gap. 6-15th isnt huge gap. You get either way great talent. 26th is shot in the night, no clear sight what you hit

Yeah you really have to think is the difference between Cooley& Gauthier a prospect like Kasper/Kemell/Mintyukov that you could get at 12

Personally if we can get one of the RD’s at 6th and another good piece at 12th (Kasper etc) stay. I want quality over quantity.

If the CBJ Bain trust thinks they are going to be gone then trade up and pick Cooley or RD.

I have come full circle and hope not be this high in the draft (unless we win the draft lottery) for the foreseeable future and we could use both in the prospect pool. Still could use a 1C and 1RD. We still have a lot of wingers and a decent amount of LD in pipeline.

I don’t think Jarmo wants to go with 2 Dmen in the 1st round.
But I could see him go with 2 forwards

I wouldn’t have thought so a month ago. But defense is strong in this draft, and this would be the year to grab two defensemen. I dont think we are ready to compete yet and I want to build the best team for the future.

I could see Gauthier at 6 (if he is available). But I also think Philly could take Gauthier, especially after hiring Torts. I could see drafting Kasper at 12.
