Now I am getting way too greedy but I somehow want the Flyers to NOT be in a position to take Slafkovsky or Jiricek. Very unlikely they are still there but it would royally suck if we had to face one of those two for the next decade. Hopefully we take one of the two and the other one is gone before their pick. Hopefully the Yotes or Kraken go that route, however one will go Cooley if we don‘t ( I cannot see us going Cooley ) . If Yotes Kraken go Cooley Nemec … then I guess it sucks that the Flyers likely go Jiricek.
Too many unknowns and can’t worry about what other teams take but would be nice if the Flyers don’t get one of those two.

Slafkovsky in NJD and Jiricek isn’t goin to flyers is a perfect scenario.

Ducks with McTavish, Gauthier and Zegras are scary.
I think Seattle goes with Jiricek over Nemec, because size factored into a lot of their draft-day decisions last year -- every player they took was 6'0 or taller, and the biggest gamble they took was on 6'5 RD Ville Ottavainen. Then I feel Nemec to the Flyers makes great sense.

As for the Ducks, I think they have an emerging powerhouse over there. They also have some great young talent in Drysdale, Perreault, Pastujov and Zellweger, and picks at #10 and #23 overall this year.

Coyotes need a center more than anything, so Cooley would be the logical pick at #3.

I see Seattle preferring Jiricek to Nemec, since size factored in a great deal in their 2021 draft day decision-making.

But there is a chance Jiricek could fall to the Flyers, if Seattle decided upon Nemec.

However, if the Devils took Jiricek, there would be no chance Slafkovsky would fall to #5 overall. Arizona would strongly consider him at #3, and there's no way he would fall past Seattle at #4.

So, you can put me on the record as saying there is a high chance the Flyers get Nemec, a decent chance they get Jiricek, and no conceivable way they get Slafkovsky.

Good. Keep the big bastards out west . (With one of them on the Devils)

Are we thinking Slaf more in the D+2 or D+3? Obviously hard to project out but I think finally becoming a regular in D+3 might end up being the better way to go. D+1 in Finland still. Then gets a shot in D+2 where maybe he makes it but I think AHL might end up making more sense. Then maybe he comes up at some point and sticks or it's until D+3 to be a regular. I could see D+3 being the smart move for any of Jiricek, Nemec, or Slaf.

I would go the Rantanen route IMO: immediately sign him out of the draft and get him playing the NA game in the AHL. Getting him out of the Liiga would be best for him as I've heard that league (and other Euro leagues) can be a little bit stifling when it comes to development since they play trap-style hockey.

Finland is trap low scoring hockey. Get Slaf out of there asap.

Jaromir Jagr on Slafkovsky: Great player. I saw him last year when he played against us (Czech Republic) and I was like: "Who is this player? He plays exactly like me, so strong along the boards. I want him in my team." But then I realized that he's only 17 so I had no chance to get him.
Damn this should be posted everywhere. Every thread. The people need to know.

Let's talk second round, STI! Two guys I'd love to hear your view on are Seamus Casey and Noah Östlund. I was sad last year with us passing on Morrow and Stankoven, however Casey and Östlund seem like this year's comparables respectively. Also, how does Casey compare to Rinzel in your opinion?

I'd prefer to wait until D+2 and only then promote him if he forces your hand in the preseason, but it seems like top 2 forwards almost always play in the NHL D+1. Beniers and Byfield are unusual. Besides them I had to go back to 2014 to find that last time a top two forward didn't play the full season in the NHL D+1 (Sam Reinhart). Then I kept going and stopped at 2010 without finding any more.

It's really rare. But again, I would support it.

I think the most likely scenario is that he takes a year before he plays in the NHL. But at the same time I think there’s a bit of a chance he plays right away as well as a small chance he takes 2 years before making the jump.

There’s also a chance he comes right over to North America and either makes the Devils or starts in the AHL. That is the most likely way he actually ends up starting the season on the devils and wouldn’t be that surprising. I also think that’s what he should do. Get him to North America. As people have pointed out he’s the type of player who should do well on a smaller ice surface and he might as well come over and get acclimated. And who knows maybe he makes the team out of camp. Or he could be called up later on.

Does anyone know the status of his contract on Finland? That definitely has an affect on this.

This is also weaker than usual drafts. I’d be very very surprised if he’s an NHLer this year. Maybe he’s brought to NA and you get him 9 games in throughout the year but he won’t be a regular

I think there’s a small chance he makes as a regular but more likely he’s in the AHL. I hope they bring him over to North America right away.
