WJC: 2022 Czech Republic Roster talk

Does anyone else enjoy it?
No, it's a torture at this point. An occasional win against a strong opponent, maybe some lucky medal once in a while (at any level), would make it bearable I guess, but it's literally one pathetic failure right after another. With every lame loss, like this one against Germany, I realize I care less and less and I hate it.

It has been really bad lately.

4th out of 5 at Youth Games was brutal. We lost twice at U18 by touchdowns if I recall.

Then you add in best player hurt in first game all the time, the crap jerseys and now they all call us Chechnya.lol

You wrote it exactly. I see it similarly. And I write this as someone who watches all the youth categories, I mean really streams to keep track of the players ... recently, after a few decades, I ignored the first A team match I could watch. Now I'm disgusted and after those years I feel like an idiot, I'm also starting to hate it all ..:help:

Hrádek game suspension, Sourdif pat on the wrist from his own coaches, bussiness as usual.

We suck in all team departments, we only have individuals who sometimes show skill. A well prepared, well motivated, physically and mentally stronger team just beat us. If we can prepare for Canada why cant we prepare for Germany? Beacause, frankly, beating Germany should be a priority right now.

No use consoling ourselves that we have a skill advantage. Not in goal btw.

It's bleak, it's awful.

2 games in and we have 4 goals. 2 were on a powerplay (yesterdays goal was a total fluke). One was Svozil with a goal of the tourney type effort. So we have one forward with a 5 on 5 goal in 2 games. Gut. ONE 5 on 5 goal.

Even reading about stats from last night.. Mysak had 7 shots last night, Kulich had 5 shots.

If you asked me who I want with the puck in key moments... those 2 are the guys that we need to convert. So we are getting the puck to our 'stars' but it's not going in. I don't blame the stars either. But you watch Sweden get outplayed by Slovak's last night.. they convert their chances fast and out of nowhere.

I literally saw the worst 2 on 1 in history against Canada... up 3-2 and 30 seconds left in period and we have a 2 on 1. How did that end in a goal against and a 3-3 tie?lol That is awful. But, last night, we had a few more awful 2 on 1's as well.

One nice thing from last night.. all 5 D that played (and Jiricek) are eligible for next year. So we have a heck of a good D core coming back. However, no forwards.lol I'm sure we'll have 2 drafted goalies in net.

The other good news is that it really doesn't matter what place we finish in assuming we beat Austria. The crossover is brutal. Even first in our pool now looks likely to take on Slovakia and that is not easy!

and, as always, the boys played hard. I've always admired how guys show up and give it everything. I don't think it's an attitude problem. it's a systematic issue and we all know this. 10 years and no real improvement. This is our best possible team. Finn's without Raty are doing fine, Germans with 3 stars are doing fine. We have no excuses as much as losing Jiricek hurts.

At this level it's always been a bit weird in that we have tended to lose to teams we should beat (Swiss, Germany) and the come up with an unexpected win against stronger teams (e.g. Russia). But this year our forwards really don't look good. Let's see what 2 more d-men will do against Finland.....

Really really solid D core that will also include Hamara.. insane. should make up for lack of offense.
Kulich, Sapovaliv, Slavicek, Formanek, Chmelar, Brabenec, Kos, Sale..
Not too too bad

But who knows guys. How do we feel if we beat Finland? I know it sucks to lose to Germany. It seems to happen every year that we lose to either them or Switzerland.
I’ve been saying this a while. But I think a lot of it is coaching. We’re always the better team on paper, and the last 5-7 years, we lose anyways.
There isn’t another explanation for me.

I think with Krutil back tomorrow, the boys will come out strong and give it everything they got. I expect a really good game from them. I think we win.
Question is , who do you play in net?

I don't think it is about coaching. It is more about Czech players failing in games where they are expected to dominate the possession and create plays. They are usually better in games where they are focusing on defense and rush for a counterattack time to time. This is due to the lack of real difference makers. Most of the players are solid "ice workers", but is anybody of them about to become a significant NHL player? Jiricek, of course, who is out due to the injury. Krutil, Svozil may make it into the NHL as regular players but probably no stars. Mysak can be an useful 3rd-4th NHL liner in a couple of years, but definitely no tremendous goal scorer, rather a responsible hard worker/penalty killer. And that's probably it. There is no next Pastrňák, Hertl, Vrána, Nečas, nobody like that on this team.

We get one upset a tourney... Let's make it the quarters! Go Finland go! Lol

I'd prefer Bednar but am fine with both.

I feel like we are stuck in a weird spot.

Are we an attacking nation or a defending one.

We definitely had more offensive players than Germany but they stuck with it and beat us. Maybe it is time we become a more defence minded team like the old Swiss squads. Not what I'd prefer but we are currently neither good defensively or offensively in most tournaments. Eg. We had 2 games where we lost by 7 last year and have already lost by 6 in this one.

Players without influence over the course of the game, Formánek is another player in the national team without much importance.
Unfortunately, such a Kulich is not nearly as talented as Nečas, although someone here claims the opposite (he is wrong in everything), skates well for his age, has some potential, but on the other hand has a limited ceiling due to hockey IQ.
The defense can be really great (Jiříček may be in good health), but I don't see such a big difference in the attack. Sale will be young, the rest I am not sure what effect they will have in international hockey. When I see Myšák, for example, who is completely indistinct, I am really very skeptical.
So would Myšák have a hat-trick against the Finns today?

And as for defense .. Jiříček should have a career as a top defender, I'm high in Svozil's rating, it depends on how he will eliminate his shortcomings, but he has a very high potential. And the rest is a really solid group of players. Basically, this is the only positive in the tournament so far.

Best bet is to be a strong Defensive team and counter attack .. those guys are good enough to sneak in a goal or two. Try and play 3-2 type hockey.

The Swedes got thoroughly outplayed by Slovakia but they calmly picked their spots, scored and just kept them at bay.

Defense is our forte here so this seems like a good plan
