Both are different players, but I do think Hutson has an (albeit small) chance of being as impactful as Makar.

Actually let me rephrase: Hutson is the only defenseman in our system that has the potential to be as impactful as Makar.
That's an insanely high bar. It's funny because we've been beaten down so much by previous regimes that it's hard to believe we will ever get players like that.

Makar is probably a bit too much, like on the impact side lol but he does kinda play and move like him.

Hutson said Patrick Kane was his favorite player to watch, we actually can see that while watching him play!

Fascinating player to watch.

👍 exciting time to be a Habs fan. Talent that we haven't seen in 20-30 years.

I don't get too excited, Karl Alzner won CHL dman of the year in 2007, Jon Blum in 2008, David Savard in 2009 its a tough road from junior hockey to making a dent in the NHL. If you include the USHL and Petry, we've had 3 recent all star dmen lol.

I don't think he is going to be a Cale Makar clone, but Quinn Hughes is a realistic projection for Lane Hutson. The talent is there, product like that in NCAA it's insane. So i believe that Lane Hutson is going to be the Quinn Hughes for the Habs, that's a high bar, but less than Cale Makar.

You're right, Makar has a better shot and is slightly bigger than Hughes, who is closer to Hutson's projected stature.

Hutson might not win a Norris and a Conn Smythe by age 23 , but he could turn out to be really impactful

Hugues is a way faster skater than Hutson.

Hutson has better hands, lateral mobility and wrist shot IMO.

But yeah, I envision Hutson to be in the same mold as Hugues as an NHL player... If he can become as good as Hugues, it is a homerun pick for sure in the late 2nd.

If you don’t see the difference between Alzner, Savard and Hutson in terms of talent i don’t really know what to tell you lol.

my point was amazing jr careers are a dime a dozen and plenty of ordinary award winners have proven this? Let me refresh your memory

Have you ever SEEN Lane Hutson play hockey,
And in turn, have you ever SEEN Karl Alzmer play hockey lol.

I don't want to get my hopes up with Hutson but if he continues to progress and gets stronger he could be a top 10 Dman in NHL. Now if he grows another 2" that could make his chances of success exponentially better. Best part is he has time to develop in NCAA. I would love to see where he was rated on NHL teams scouting reports? In all honesty I have not been this excited about a Dman since Habs drafted Peter Svoboda lol and his highest point total was only 45 points. He's not even in the top 50 for points for Habs Dmen lol. At #50 is the one and only Mike Komisarek. Wow!!! the Habs have been brutal drafting Dmen. Hopefully things are changing for the better. I know some will say Subban etc but when he was drafted I wasn't overly excited.

yet Alzner , Johnson and all the other busts one Dmen of the year lol

So i guess we can’t be happy about a prospect’s play and development ever because there’s a chance they never pan out.

Meh, when you've seen as many hyped prospects as I have over the years, on this forum, you get a little jaded. What can I say. The hype and excitment has been real many times before

Alzner was a better version of Gorges with the Caps. He was a great top 4 D.

He ruined his career by trying to keep his iron man streak alive while dealing with groin injuries. After getting sports hernia surgery, he was never the same. I remember the Caps fans warning us prior to signing him.
