Clearly a top end talent. But let's be honest....that was a mediocre opposition.
LOL. I'm embroiled in a couple of "debates" with people who "firmly believe" that the best way to become an NHL star is to play weaker opposition for long periods.

I say a couple more games beating up the NCAA division 4 and Hutson should pop in to the Habs on the first pairing.

He looked good on the goals, but tried to do too much at other times. This was a weak AF opposition.

I love his immense offensive talent, but unless he grows a tad, he’ll be a more talented Mete. A PP specialist nothing more. There. My unpopular take.

Look how Harris is still having issues when he gets to battle one-on-one. And he’s much bigger than this baby. Unlike what many think here, defensive battles are still an ‘in’ thing in the NHL. It’s not all about being flashy.

Way too early to speculate, but I wonder how good he could be offensively as a winger.

Mark Striet was actually pretty good when we used him on a third line in that role, as well as a pp guy. He put up 62 points that year.

He’ll need to grow.

This draft choice is a home run swing. We hope he does grow 1-2 inches at least. At least. I don’t want a Cole-sized D with no shot.

He's only 155 lbs. Hutson should spend his 4 years in the NCAA just to gain the mass to make the NHL. He needs at least 30 lbs added and that will still get him pushed around in the NHL, but he won't get blown in the wind at least.

That's not an unpopular take at all, that's what's expected of him. He probably won't be much more than a 3rd pairing dman because of his size but he has the smart and skills to QB our top PP, which is what's expected of him. Him becoming a bonafide top 4 D/ top pairing D would be a bonus.

Correct what he needs to play d 5 on 5. But that has nothing to do with whether he can be a great pp qb and a useful forward 5 on 5.

Right now?
Dont care who, what, when, how.
Just Produce.

Didnt draft this kid to be Shea Weber.

Weak competition? Dont care, it would of been a problem maybe if he had 0 points, not , you know, 3

yeah we don't need to qualify those points that it was against a crap team. Anyone with eyes can see his enormous offensive potential. Way too shifty.

It's all about whether he can iron out the kinks and not be a liability defensively. I saw a few not so great clearing attempts/errant passes but it was still a freshman's first game.

I personally think when you're that skilled unless you're a bonehead you're not gonna be a bust. We have the benefit of having some really good size on the back end that should be able to insulate him if need be.

I'm not saying he's a lock and I saw some things I didn't love but the skill level is absurd. Probably one of the most, if not the most, skilled Hab prospect I've seen. can't get a read on his shot. He let off quite the clapper but his stick was due north on the wind up.

That face is all business. Fantastic

all business is exactly the disposition we'd want from a player like this imo.

Caufield and Hutson on the same power-play, oh baby…

Yes Hutson is smaller and will have problems with 1 on 1 physical battles defensively, but we have big defenseman to help shelter him. Guhle, Mailloux, Jackeye, Barron… all big guys. You can have a Hutson. Look around the league. The thing is, they just have to be elite. Hutson has a chance.

Harris looks completely fine. Not seeing these issues you speak of.

I'm not sure why everyone is so high on this kid. No doubt hes talented, but he's like 5'5 a buck 50. Wth do people think he's going to do, go wide on players? Is he that fast? How can he clear the crease? How can he win a board battle?

Unless this kid grows another 4" and adds at least 30 lbs, he is woefully ill equipped to be an NHL defenseman. Kid is going to get injured, not a matter of if, but when.

He isn’t 5’5’ and his edgework is certainly great. Do you ask these questions of a guy like Quinn Hughes?
