Something about hutson tough, the guy is probably used to be ridicule for his size during his life in hockey.. what im trying to say is.. he is used to that adversity and probably has some sort of super human resiliency.. kinda kid brendan Gallagher but offensicely and effiently with what he has to work with for now... he sure can gain some weight but its going to be hard work we should never assume a player can growth in size.. there is no 100% accurate science... so lets wait and see but skill wise vision wise that guy can run a pp and like some other poster said.. man Caufield Hutson could be simplay NASTY 2 players somewhat overlooked because of there size and I feel like hutson is a hockey maniac.. so its good for his potential growth and with experience. For me thats an amazing draft pick for us.

Lane was in fact better than Hughes was with the NTDP.

And will most likely have a more productive freshman year in the NCAA than Hughes had in his first year.

LOL

Lane was absolutely not better than Hughes which is clearly reflected in the huge gap in draft position. At the same age Hughes was nearly twice as productive as Hutson.....Hutson's absolute upside is Quinn Hughes and he will have to grow a couple of inches and significantly improve his skating to reach that level.

You are clearly making the mistake of trying top compare Hutson's draft year production to Hughes' D-1 saeson. Hughes played for Michigan in the NCAA in his draft year. Compare Hutson's D-1 season to Hughes D-1 season if you want a proper linear comparison which happens to be very heavily in favour of Quinn Hughes.

Well, he got more points than Hughes

Same goes for this asinine take

Quinn Hughes had a whole year to grow before he got drafted. And he only made it 7th.

Stupid question because of a stupid situation: why is there an exhibition game played AFTER a regular season game?
Hockey DB added the points, so i guess they count.

Lane's brother is an interesting player, he didn't get drafted ?

BOSTON - Thanks to a hat trick from freshman Quinn Hutson, the No. 9/12 Boston University men's ice hockey team defeated the University of Waterloo, 7-1, in an exhibition contest on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.

It really was exhibition… it’s weird.

they don't count.

Usually they don't do it that way, for some reason they started the season a week earlier then usual but I never checked into why.

And to make the jump to the NHL Hutson will have to continue working with Adam Nicholas and get his speed and skating technique from pretty good to excellent. We’ll see how he does.

His current level is probably fine for the AHL longer term.

It's not that unusual. NCAA teams play games against the US NTDP well into the regular season that are considered exhibitions for the NCAA team. The NTDP, though, counts the game and player stats on its side.

but a little different as they play the 2 for different reasons. They play the USNTDP over the course of a season because they have to in order to get more games in.

I know last year the NCAA allowed the rule change where exhibition games could be played against other NCAA teams, but aside from that they play those gams vs CIS usually before the season starts since due to stupid NCAA rules about practices, they can only be on the ice for so many as the coaches can't be there etc.. The CIS games are usually the 1st game of the season and then the following weekend the season starts.

The kid is tiny, let's not kid ourselves. IF he grows, he'll likely max out at 5-9 tops.

That said, his instincts, skills, and swagger are top-notch. And, for anyone paying attention, the NHL is no longer a "big man's game." If the kid can perfect his gap control and add enough strength to compete against men, he'll bottom out as a Shayne Gostisbehere type... but only if given the chance to learn on the job and make mistakes. The example I'll use is Erik Karlsson...

When Karlsson broke into the NHL, he was a riverboat gambler who would take tons of chances and get burnt on occasion. He also lost some physical battles (but the NHL was a bit bigger and stronger then). The Sens gave him tons of leash to create and he ended up one of the best offensive defensemen of his generation. If he was drafted by a team who hampered him and didn't let him take chances and make mistakes, his career could have gone the way of David Rundblad of sorts.

Realistic case for Hutson -- 2nd or 3rd pair D with PP1 duty and 55+ point upside (Gostisbehere). Best case for Huston -- Quinn Hughes like.

This time next year, he'll be one of the most hyped D prospects on the planet, the way Olen Zellweger was this summer.
