Seems like it’s doubtful it’ll happen this year unless injuries strike, but I really am interested to see how Clarke looks at the NHL level.

He just looks to be a simple forward with a knack for scoring off his chances. Feels like he’s the type of forward who can carve out a role on this team, especially with our complete lack of RHS forwards.

I do think he made it easier for the Devils to move Zetterlund, as I could see him being an almost direct replacement next year.
Meier-Hughes-Clarke sounds like a nice fourth line in 2023-24.:sarcasm:

Didn't realize that with Theut and Poulter with the Comets that Adirondack signed former UNH goalie Mike Robinson.

I thought he had potential and was surprised to see that he had been playing in the SPHL.

Not sure how long it lasts but it suddenly seems that there is depth in the organization in terms of future prospects - a long way from the days of Cormier and Anthony Brodeur (no offense).

Speaking of Adirondack, in 2018-19 current Golden Knights goalie Logan Thompson played eight games with the Thunder (and one with the Binghamton Devils) following his college season with Brock.

Didn't realize that.

Played against Brock U. decades ago in the St. Catherines arena. Is that arena still there? It was old and was decorated with photos of all the Chicago Balckhawks who had played there as Jrs. Was quite an impressive display. I beat them. Believe the score was 3-1. I know they only beat me once. I was pelted with eggs late in the 3rd. When the game ended, the unhappy Brocksters started a brawl. They arena people turned out the lights over the ice surface, played both Canadian and US National anthems, escorted us off the ice, arranged for a police escort for us to the border. Pretty cool memory actually.

:25 seconds in Foote scores from the slot off the rush Pass across from Clarke.

:25
1-0 Comets

Brerakaway for the Sens and Lucchini evens it up.

:45
1-1

Shot from the slot and Bernard_Docker scores in and out. Iwas waved off, but Coach Bell asked for a review and very quickly after a look the Refs signaled goal.

8:00
2-1 Senators

Walsh shoots the puck on the ice and Ibragimov tips it by Ferguson.

9:10
2-2

Geertsen to the Box. 2 for boarding.

Poulter 2 good stops.

Pinho and Thompson a 2 on 1. Thompson pass to Pinho and Pinhod takes it down near the bottom of the right circle and centers it perfectly into the low slot. Thompson had gone to the bench after he gave it Pinho.

Geerste is out and skating in with Engaras. A pas to Gambardella and he is robbed by Ferguson.

Clarke shot, wide. NEMEC fields it coming in from the from the LEFT point behind the net and centers it. No shot. Walsh gets it deep from the right. Nemec gets off the ice.

Wotherspoon had gone to the bench. Walsh a RD came on and Nemec simply moved over to the right point.

Foote another of his impossible pass attempts at the attacking blueline. Tried to pass it hrough not one but 2 defenders in a line between him and his intended target. Easily blocked and turned over.

1 minute to go.

Drop pass to Holtz who lost it trying to drag it in to himself.

Gambardella gets in and is dragged down by ex-Comet Blujus and the puck rolls along the crossbar and Ferguson dives across the crease to grab it as it falls to thje ice just outside of the post to his left.

Comets to a short :28 second PP.

Period 1 comes to an end.

2-2

On to the 2nd

Comets fail to get into the Belleville end on 2 attempts.

Cassels leads a 2 on 1 and a drop pass to a trailer is stopped by Poulter.

PP comes to an end and it's another putrid PP effort by the league's #28 ranked PP. No shots and played more D than O.

Clean faceoff win to Groleau by Engaras and he shoots immediately. No one has ever scored through the 6-hole.

Dineen is ordered to put the 5 he had on the ice for the faceoff back out there.
Belleville promptly ices it. So the Comets get their change.

Poulter a nice stop.

Gambardella offsides.

2 on 1 with Holtz and Gambardella. Gamby takes a beautiful pass from Alex and goes in alone and let's loose a wsrister from close in and Ferguson robs him again with a glove save.

Poulter a glove save on a point shot through traffic.

Nemec wrister from the high slot over the crossbar.

Foote shot deflected out of play.

Holtz to Gamby to Pinho in front and he doesn't get a shot.

Poulter a a save on a shot form hand shaking distance.

Foote a shot. Stopped. 2 more and they don't get it in. The 3rd was stopped by a defender laid out across the crease behind his keeper, pads stacked and it went off him as he stretched his hand up towards the crossbar and swatted the puck.

Gambardella hit high and hard. He's down.
Sens have a slow 3 on 1 in front of poulter at the other end. Standing still they make 2 passes and Poulter stops it with his glove i tbounces out and the lone Comet back got the puck up ice to HJoltz and the the refs blew the whistle since the Comets gained possession.

Comets continue to fire shot wide. It is a way too common fault.

Foote is called for holding at 14:26.

Comets won the draw and failed to clear.

Engaras and Pinho get a SH 2 on 1 and Pinho shoots it where? Wide!

Out of play in the Comets end.

Beatuful set up and the shot ends up wide and the cc+Comets send it up the ice.

Sen bring it back in.

Shot deflects through the net front. The bouncing shot is gathered in and shot from just below the opposite circle and it goes in.
The #28 ranked PK team gives up another.

16:03

3-2 Sens

Pinho 2 shot attempts, both blocked.

Poulter a stop at the other end.

The hand held camera man in the stands is having convulsions and I'm going to get a migraine from his continual jittery shots.

A stop in the crease and Geertsen fires the rebound in the crease -
Yep, WIDE!

1 minute left.

Period comes to an end.

3rd gets underway

Groleau set up for a shot from the p[oint. Way w-i-d-e.

Comets to the PP in the 1st minute of the 3rd.

Nemec Shot stopped. Walsh the rebound shot into a defender. He refuses to just set things up when there is nothing available to him.

Several passes and then when they pass it to Pinho he flubs it up and down the ice it goes and that kills the PP. He has been killing offense all game long.

Poulter a stop on a Sen all alone.

Pinho forces another, turned over.

Comets icing. 15:51

Thompson loses a pass at the blueline and can't bring it in because he has himself offsides.

Halonen terrible turnover when he had abn easy pass to clear the zone. In the ensuing play he then commits a foul and gets 2 for a hit to the head.

Poulter called upon twice to make real tough saves.

Now another one.

Comets defenders do very little to help the cause.

Holtz picks one and get it out.

PK is successful (or is that Poulter was successful. Yeah, that's more like it.

Comets have 2 games in laval on Friday and Saturday. This game is a lot more important than they may think it is.

Gambardella after taking the high hit in the second is not on the bench. Pinho was out for 9 games after a hit to the head and just returned to the lineup on 3/10.

Stevens and Hutchison are currently out after similar high hits. Stevens for 16 games and Hutchison for 8.

Poulter a stop on a bouncing shot.

Engaras shot is stopped.

Time is running out and Engaras takes a tripping call.
7:31 to go.

Cleared down the ice.

Sens back in and cleared out.Shot deflected wide.

Big stop by Poulter.

Poulter a stop and he covers with a Sen right in his grill.

1 second to go on the kill. Faceoff to Poulter's right.

5:00 to go

2 shit passes by Wotherspoon in the pas few seconds. Both turnovers.

4:00 to go and the Comets have not crossed center ice.

Comets get a PP with 3:41 to go.

TV TO
3:41 to go.

This is the biggest PP of the season thus far. At least 1 point on the line and maybe 2.

Shot down the ice.

Dumped in No comet pursues it and the Sens fumble along the side biards and send it down the ice.

Board battle for a lot of seconds. Poulter to the bench. :37 to go on the PP. This has been one of the worst efforts they have put forth on the season. Have not come close to setting up in the zone. NO SHOTS.

Dineen drawing up a play at the bench.

2:18 left in regulation. :37 on the PP. 6 on 4.

Lost the draw and Walsh can't hold the clearing attempt in.

Sens clear it out.

6 on 5

Foote stopped point blank.

TO
1:28 to go

Faceoff losses kill them on their PP. This is similar with 6 on 5.

Lose it but kept in at the point. Holtz walks down and firses from the doet and it's stopped.

Faceoff won. Russo shot goes wide, but Nolan foote slides it in at the right post.

GGGGGGGGGGGGGG-OOOOOOOOO-AAAAAAAAAA-LLLLLLL!!!

It's 3-3
18:49

13 left to go and a wide open point shot is tipped in.

F--CKERSscan't even hold off the opponent for a GD minute.
That was a disgusting way to sacrifice points. Lazy D-zone play as if the Sens would quit and wait for OT like they were! Dineen's coaching strategy for the final 2 minutes of every period all season has shit the bed. That along with a #28 ranking in both the PP and the PK leads me to say this guy is not a good coach!

Comets lose it 4-3.
Syracuse just lost 4-2 to Providence
Rochester beat Laval 2-0.

I can't stay on here any longer. Maybe I'll recap it later.
The stats are on AHL.COM

GOOD NIGHT.

Was so pissed off I forgot to post the final reply.

Final recap of last night's game.

Final score:
Belleville 4 Utica 3

SOG:
Utica 11 13 5 = 29
Sens 9 8 13 = 30

PP:
Utica 0/4
Sens 1/4

Scoring:
Foote (17) from Clarke (26) and Thompson (16)
Ibragimov (2) from Walsh (26) and Hayes (1)
Foote (18) from Nemec (14) and Russo (19)

3 ***
#1 Cole Cassels (Belleville Senators) 4 A
#2 Nolan Foote (Utica Comets) 2 G
#3 Lassi Thomson (Belleville Senators) GWG

Cassels is an ex-Comet. He was available this season after his 13 game stint in Sweden went flat. He's a center and has put up 45 points for Belleville 36 of which have been assists in 52 GP. Schmelzer has 23 for the Comets in 55 GP. That's the most for any Comets center.

The Comets played last night with 1 healthy scratch, ECHL call-up D-man Jarrod Gourley.
With the Injury to Schmelzer on Sunday the Comets have 12 forwards with Geertsen moving up from D to the wing.

3 forwards are out with injury. Those 3 include the most productive centers the center starved Comets have, Nolan Stevens (16 games) and Ryan Schmelzer (1 game and it didn't look good when 2 assistants aided him down the runway mostly carrying him. Center/wing Nick Hutchison is also out (8 games). On D Vukojevic is out (10 games).

Jayce Hawryluk, C/RW was acquired for Utica from Belleville for futures on 3/10 and we have yet to see him. The Comet that ended up in Bellevile played for them last night, Dylan Blujus.

D-man Santeri Hatakka was acquired in the Meier deal and he came injured and has not been cleared to play. It has been said he might be available late in the season. Don't know how much help he could provide considering his injury occurred on 11/4 and he hasn't played since.

Daws has missed 6 straight games as well.

The Comets have 13 games remaining with a depleted squad. Other teams in the race with them were strengthened of late. The Comets were seriously weakened and the injuries have made it only worse. The only help they can eventually HOPE for from NJ would be Bahl and/or Schmid. Unless Ruff goes completely loco and decides to slide Blackwood back into the rotation, Schmid is only a dream. I won't hold my breath looking for Bahl either.

This same thing happened to the Comets last season. This season is worse because the Comets were missing the level of skill players that they had last season right from the start. Thus, when you lose the less skilled, but best they have in key positions, the Comets really struggle.

I have pointed out the tight race they are in for playoff spots. 10 points separate team 2 from team 7 and 5 make the post season. The Comets are in 2nd but the current 5th place team is only 7 points back. The 6th place team is 8 behind them and are the Comets upcoming opponent in a back to back this Friday and Saturday.

Comets have lost 2 in a row and 2 more would see them sliding down the standings quickly.

Help in the way of any kind of actual strong forward is a pipe dream at this point. With Dineen having done absolutely nothing to fix the weak special teams that have haunted them all season, they have little chance to advance anyways. The only feather they could stick in their hats is making the post season.

1st is underway

Comets roster is beyond weak. Comets 0-2-2 vs the Rocket this season.

Laval camera is headache inspiring.

Right off the opening draw Poulter is required to make a stop off his left post from 6 feet.

Another stop by Poulter.

Skirmish - 4 on 4 for 2 mins.
Hayes and Simoneau get 2 each for Roughing

Clarke a forced shot out of play.

Wotherspoon hard blast from the circle - wide.

Poulter a save after 3 Comets cough it up in the corner

Faceoff loss and the Laval shot is just wide

Holtz a blast from the right circle and it's ruled no goal. Post?
NO!
Replay shows it in the net.

Ref goes to the review. Quickly back on the ice and points to the faceoff circle.

G_____________________O______________A________________L!!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 Comets
3:33

Nemec and Grasso moving in and Nemec's pass is bouncing and over Grasso's stick.

Terrible drop pass by Clarke. Turnover the other way and Russo is called for crosschecking.

Condotta gets 2 for Roughing.
4 on 4 again

Clarke a pass in front to Halonen and he can't put a stick on it.

Poulter 2 more stops.

Back to 5 on 5.

Pinho and Thompson are really poor on the boards; work, work, work and rarely end up with the puck.

Geertsen goes with Nolan Yaremko and Geertsen pounded him in an extended bout. Right hand after right hand.

Laval comes in with speed and the puck carrier centered it in front and the 2nd forward tips it in.

They came with speed and the Comets D were both blown by. Nemec and Wotherspoon. Terrible D vs a 2 on 2 rush. Nemec was walked and the pass to his mate was behind Wotherspoon.

2-2
10:23

Comets shoot it from the point and Halonen is pulled down in front. Comets to the PP. I don't expect much. Best would not to give up a shorty.

Russo shot blocked and cleared.
Holtz 1-timer blocked.
Perimeter passing.
Lose it off their own stick and it's cleared.

Comets come back in and it's promptly right back down the ice.

Board battle.
Lost
Cleared down the ice and the PP is over.

2nd PP in a little over 3 minutes. 1st was impotent.

Faceoff won

Puck drops in front off a Clarke shot and it's cleared.

Clarke gets it in close and he's stopped.

Russo a wrister from the point and it's gloved easily.
Draw won
Walsh a 1-timer wide and Halonen collects Walsh's wide shot, but also shoots it wide.

Another dud PP.

Comets now roll it in front but lack of puck skills result in no shot.

Halonen off the left wing barges in front and ..................................

S_________C______________O__________R____________E________S!!!!!!

2-1 Comets
17:01

Nemec tripped behind his net and it's another PP. That's 3.

If they don't capitalize it won't work out well for them. The Rocket are going to get their share.

2 shots and cleared. Primeau is good.
Cleared again.
Holtz shoots wide.
Holtz shot deflected.

Period ends and the PP has :41 to go.

Thank you for your recaps! Could Halonen be a fine depth guy for the Devils eventually? 16 goals in 55 games so far isn’t bad for a first year pro. Is he a physical guy? Good defensively? Curious to read your thoughts about his potential.

He is signed for next season.
He has a good shot.
Is not a good puck handler.
Is not strong in aspect of physical play - board battles, forecheck, coverage in his zone.
He is meh defensively.
Maybe another season could work on that.
He turned 24 in January. Not a lot of time for him to make an impression in NJ.

My guess is he will be an AHL career player.

I hope he proves me wrong. He has come a long way here in the 2nd half as far as putting up points.

2nd is underway

They showed in the 1st that their best chance in this game is to keep the puck out of their own end. Laval has a big advantage in speed. When Laval had the puck in the Comets end it was an adventure no matter how long it was there.

Puck is cleared down and the PP is now down to 5 seconds. They really don't make the Rocket scared to take a penalty.

Nemec is real scary this game in his own end. Coughing it up when pressed. Making errant passes. Not like him.

Laberge in alone on a turnover, pulled Primeau to the right and drops it to Talviite all alone with an open side from 6 feet and he deposits it in the net.

G____________________O__________________A_______________L!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3-1 Comets
1:51

Save by Poulter.

Rocket player all alone in front and shoots it wide.

Big skirmish on the end boards. There will be penalties. Nemec hit hard into the boards not so clean and Wotherspoon took great exception.

Wotherspoon and Simoneau 2 for roughing
Schmelzer also gets 2 for roughing due to the same hit on Nemec.
Somehow Geertsen picked up a 10-min misconduct.

Laval to the PP.
Man do they move the puck. Shot off Poulter's pad and down the ice.

3 shots in the crease. Loose puck in the crease and Poulter is down and out.
It's cleared.

Comets get it down the ice again.
Off sides Laval.

PK is over. Don't want to have to face that very often! Their PP is working the way it's supposed to.

Hayes goes for 2 and that PP will be back on the ice.

Here they go.

Lose the draw.

Halonen and Talivitie skate it down the ice.
Kill some time.

Laval sets up behind their net and come back in.
Shot stopped.
Point miscue and it's cleared down the ice.

Back out again.

Laval shoots it back in Russo collects and ices their dump.

PP is over. That one didn't look like the 1st one. It was more of Laval's poor play than the Comets with a great kill.

Puck into the Laval bench.

Comets dump it in.

Laval dumps it in.

Cometsthe other way and they dump it in.

Laval in with mad intent.
Poulter makes 3 stops in front in rapid succession.
Now, he makes another.
Laval gets called in the O-zone for slashing. What a dumb penalty. His team was in fuego and threw ice on them.
WOW, was all that before the call unreal by Poulter!

Comets on the PP and can't even make a pass to each other in the Laval zone. Comets tag up and Laval sends it all the way down.

Russo 1-timer takes out a defender.

Laval player into Poulter's net. Net's off and the LM/Ref? puts it back on while play goes up ice.

4th PP is anemic.

Comets offense is shoot it from anywhere since they can't set anything up. They are shots that don't even get to the net, but it keeps the Rocket scrambling.
