I have some suspicions:

1) He's going to be flipped to Toronto for a 2024 3rd.
2) He's going to be packaged with Reimer for the first-rounder they just got.
3) He's going to be flipped to Edmonton for a draft pick.
Much like the Hoffman trade, I think Grier traded for him to send him to an eastern conference team.

Only other angle I can think of is maybe Namestnikov replaces Bonino when he gets moved.

Really, though, I'll just be waiting to see if Namestnikov is still on this roster once the deadline passes. This is a weird one.

Making the Bolts retain on Namestnikov suggests that Grier genuinely wanted him. In a vacuum, this trade is essentially meaningless, but I hate what it says about Grier.

Edit: I’ve never hoped for Pagnotta to be right more.
We don't need the cap space if we genuinely wanted him. Moving Meier even at 50% cleared more than enough. Guessing Grier has something lined up for Namestnikov at $1.25M and didn't want to waste a retention slot on him. Assume this was Eyssimont for a 4th since that is what Namestnikov is always traded for.
