But you can't just keep coming up with the "stat watching" thing time and time again, when forwards are taken in the Top 5 the expectation is they are going to be offensive producers, period.

Thus far neither guy has been even close to the kind of offensive producer that was expected of a player taken that high. And yes, it is damaging to the team in the current, we will see if it is in the future.

People can be optimistic about the future, that is fine. But there is to much denial that the poor results from the two high picks is indeed hurting the Kings in the present. It's pretty damning that three and four years ago you go center in back to back drafts with 5 and 2 picks and here we are with Blake Lizotte as the 3C.

We don't know what the future holds, maybe Byfield breaks out to a 90 point player next year, we don't know , but we do know that the lack of results from those two picks is hurting the team now, that can't be debated.

Ummmm.....
Yeah he could maybe be a 90 point player but he looks extremely far from becoming that because there’s just not anything special in his game at alll to suggest to me he’s hit 90

Still not worried about Byfield. He has another offseason to continue training. He looks like he's trying different things to see what works.

Though I do still consider this, overall, as a disappointing year stats wise with the prospects.

I mentioned my bar/goal for the prospects was 35+ points from Vilardi AND 30+ points from Kaliyev/Byfield/other forward prospect. Looks like Kaliyev was on pace to beat it, but ultimately that pace will not be realized.

I think one of those has been given an extended vacation. It's been a lot more peaceful around here.
That or his mother found out he was being a dickhead online, and took internet privileges from him.

Either way, the forum is a better place for it.

I think Byfield will be a quality NHL player.

The big question is whether or not he'll be the star player we need him to be. The more time that passes without him putting it together, the lower the probability becomes.

I don’t know. There’s so much missing from his game that makes it hard to buy in for me.

I do think it’s become clear though that he was the wrong choice.

Maybe, but you don't see similarites with him and Tage Thompson? As far as development?

Is Kempe's hand sprained or broke? A gimp Kempe, gimp Fiala, no Vilardi, no Anderson = 1st round exit. Unless, miracles like Byfield, Kupari, Kaliyev actually putting a few pucks in the net and stepping up. So many have not produced squat of late.....even the hot handed Grunderstruck has fallen off. Moore, Danault, Lizotte, Byfield, producing almost nothing. And as soon as Faust/Fox posted that Korpisalo has given up 2 or less goals in all 8 games; 10 minutes later, has given up 4 goals.

Maybe they need to post all the King player inept streaks and then some of them do the reverse that very game. Since TM can't get anything going, Fox and Fuast just need to show the ineptitudinal chart. That will reverse fortune.

Yeah, there are some, but there are also some with Nolan Patrick too. Both are probably the extremes of the spectrum, but it's not just automatic that every player who struggles for 3 years is going to be Tage Thompson.

I agree with @johnjm22 , I think he will be a quality NHL'er, but the more time that passes the less likely it will be that he lives up to where he was drafted.

Agree, I think Nolan Patrick got shafted by injuries....but there's no guarantees of anything....anywhere....

Im willing to give it one more offseason and a few months into the regular season in 23-24 before im firmly in your camp. But im totally leaning that way. There are plenty of cases where guys figured it out later we all know about the most extreme one being TNT.. and even guys like Fiala didnt really produce until age 23. All that said, there's a passivity to his game and no sign of putting it all together yet.. he'll skate well then fumble the puck.. he'll make great move to get open receive a pass, then shoot it wide.. there are little flashes of brilliance with his passing.. other than that, nothing stands out. Its hard not feel some creeping disappointment with him.

In about 8min of ice-time, MacEwen was a -2, and had 10 PIMs.

He's not an NHL player. Get him off the ice.

Yes, that is clear.

Stutzle would have been the better choice. I don't think that's a controversial statement anymore.

I know some people are fishing for a response, so I'll give it.

I'm a big believer in Byfield, even more so than in Vilardi.

But he's been definitely struggling down the last stretch, and it shows in the entire 1st line's games. He gets some major credit for adding to that line when they were doing well--so he bears responsibility now as well when they're hurting.

Unfortunately I don't think it's anything that can be straightened out before next year. He just has to learn to play through it--the tight checking, the physicality, the sagging play--everything. It's valuable experience. Maybe he doesnt need to be on the first line--but benching him now hurts the future just like it has with all the other kids from last year to this year (oh they're not ready we can't play them --> doesn't play them --> needs production from kids --> kids aren't ready, repeat ad infinitum while we play Edler/MacEwen etc).

I think he has a monster camp this year and emerges not quite like Vilardi did this year but a huge step forward into making people believers.

Sure. But the chances of Tage developing into what he is now were very low after his D4 year of not showing much. If QB goes another year with out much statistical improvement, his chances will be very low of becoming a star player.

Tage also developed an ELITE shot, which was unexpected IIRC.

It’s possible. Draisaitl was slashing a TON of players. Did they show on the camera where Draisaitl swung his stick at Gavrikovs leg from behind and made him stumble?

Eh. I’d be willing to give him an extra season if I saw some decent improvement from last season. He is just missing so much in his game. I don’t think it’s possible he puts it together.

I’m not fishing anything from you. I’m disappointed in him a lot. I really don’t have hope in him however I think the one thing he NEEDS to do that could really make him take a massive leap forward is just put on a ton of muscle and really strengthen. Passivity and weakness is so rampant in his game. I think the best way to take that out is him just having an insane camp where he works only on his size and shot.

If I were able to suggest one thing for him to do to save himself and progress potentially a lot quicker. It’s just weight and strength. He needs to add a lot.

Agreed. But also, Byfield is not the only one who is struggling down the stretch too. Bunch of guys on that list right now. I think it's wrong for others (not you RJ obviously) to continually single out the 20 year old -- when there are plenty of veterans (& coaches) that are playing like poo-poo.

I wanted Kempe launched right before he broke out.. he was a case of darkest before the dawn - taking dumb penalties every game, not producing for shit.. then all of a sudden he decided to aggressively shoot and found his shot was very hard and accurate . Its that experience that tempers my disappointment with Byfield so far.
