Byfield with the lowest TOI on the team, over 4 minutes less than Lizotte
Just got home and started the dvr, saw Byfields line get one or two (maybe) shifts in the first 10 minutes.

Imagine starting a game with your hottest scorer waiting until the 5th shift of the game to hit the ice. One shift, Vilardi back to the bench, special teams, start that same cycle again.

Imagine doing that. I mean, maybe you do that stuff on the road if dudes are late to a meeting or something, who knows, but if not - what the hell are you trying to accomplish?

Arvidsson is a really stuggling, but you need him to play to round into shape, and you haven't a lot of faith in JAD - but you have to play him with offensive guys to justify his spot in the lineup. Uncomfortable situation, that one.

Fiala is kind of a dummy. He does dumb things.

Anze is really struggling with his defensive zone reads. The righty-righty pairs are completely changing the way they defend the cross ice lanes, and Anze is picking up on things a tick late. He has almost been there on a lot of goals this year.

Cal Charlie Browns a couple, I hit "exit", but at least Rick Steves in in Great Swiss Cities and these Singapore style noodles are hitting the spot.

I don't see how anyone can blame Todd for starting Cal. It's unavoidable. He has to start him against a good opponent at some point. Doesn't matter if it's now or later.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Cal himself, and management for their negligence towards the goaltending position.

The Kings have few realistic options for significantly fixing the goaltending situation right now.

I love me some Rick Steves.

They'll end up throwing the tape away for this game. Moverare comes in for Walker (or Clarke if they want to manage his GP for now) and hope they can actually get some good defense and goaltending together for once

Becuase he's the back up and unless he threw a 5-0 shutout vs Nashville, which he didn't , he has no business playing back to back. Todd completely over coached this situation. He had 1.2 periods of good play vs Nashville, and he was trash the rest of the way.

Quick is about to be 37 years old. They're not going to give him 60+ starts. Petersen is going to have to carry a significant portion of the work load. Starting him against a good opponent is unavoidable.

Byfield with 12:30 of ice. Vilardi barely broke 15. Go Todd.

Look, that game was basically over the first period so getting them some ice time in a throw away game is not a bad idea, but they were both bad. Byfield had a 22.73 CF%, a 10.00 SF% and was on ice for 2 goals against. Vilardi wasn't much better at 31.58, 11.11 and 1 goal against. They also both had more minutes than Kempe, Kaliyev, Kopitar, Moore and Fiala at 5v5 and Byfield had the same amount of EV minutes as Arrvy and Danault.

Todd is still an issue.

Goaltending department needs a new Bill Ranford prodigy pupil yesterday.

But it's still too early for me to have as much apocalyptic forecast as some of you. This is and 82 game season and time has shown us again and again that it's mostly a rollercoaster ride.

That's all garbage time stuff that distort stats. The kids weren't given much of an opportunity to influence the game when it was still in doubt even though they had been the most influential line on the team on the trip. Just the kind of decision that invites debate.

And its not like they started poorly, Danault and Lizotte's lines did establish pressure, but it was a bunch of one and done shifts. Would have been nice to see the hot hands getting those early looks and maybe generating higher quality chances to get a lead in the game. Oh well, all teams in flux are going to be frustrating at times, but they sure do seem to aim at their own feet more often than you would hope.

To be fair it’s pretty difficult to be hopeful. It’s a massive goaltending problem. Outscoring like crazy is not sustainable. You’re not gonna win much at all with petersen. It’s not a fourth liner problem where you can bury them. Petersen is a huge problem that the Kings need to do something about asap if they want to make the playoffs.

I wonder how many more chances they will give him. From the org perspective there is a lot on the line in terms of reputation (for scouts and Blake) - and esp due to the amount of his contract. So they will bend over backwards not to have to waive or trade him (obviously trade would be big retention). If Im the GM.. i say f*** it and waive him and let him get through whatever it is in the A. He has too much stink on him now - ie its already a distraction for the team.

Win in Washington or even get a point and that'll wipe the bad taste from this one. You simply can't start behind the eight ball and expect to climb out of the hole every time. If Cal sees the shot the whole way vs the Wild, it's in the back of the net. If he doesn't see it completely from the blueline like tonight, it's in the back of the net. It's a miracle now if he can actually pitch a shutout for the 1st period to start the game.
