His play is still awful don't get me wrong, but I'm not gonna go "it's all durzi's fault" when there's plenty of suck to go around and many of Durzi's problems are inflicted by coaching and management.
I mean, I can live with the mistakes he makes that are caused by coaching/role, but today he was causing goals with lazy plays with the puck, a lack of hustle, and just not paying attention to his surroundings and standing still

There is a lot to like about Durzi's offense and he has good sense as to when to join a rush. However, if I was a forward on the opposing team, I would tell the winger covering the other point to be aware whenever Durzi makes a bad pinch to get up the middle of the ice for a head man pass.

Also, Markstrom is God awful. Calgary will not be going far with him in goal during the playoffs. I wonder if there is a clutch goaltender out there that Sutter is familiar with that could help rectify the situation.

And that's the problem, he's too risky because he lacks the speed to get back, and while he knows when to go, he lacks the hockey sense to see the play around him for support. Defense wise he's as bad as I've seen in LA

I'm with you. I want to be careful not to 'defend' him especially tonight. I just think he's a symptom of a bigger problem, that 2nd pairing slot is missing completely, and Edler is a shell of his former self at this point. in other words, we can keep beating on Durzi, but the reality is anyone currently in the org put into that spot is cast poorly/set up to fail (even if, say, Moverare could be a better 'fit'), he's just the one who drew the short straw to fail there. I mean I can't count how many times he has to play the puck with his back to the play on his backhand simply because he's on the left side. What a waste of what he's actually good at.

Maybe, say, Spence or Bjornfot stop the bleeding so to speak but it's still an issue (and for that matter, they're all the same body type).

God forbid Mikey Anderson exit the lineup for any reason at all, we'd be completely boned.

The issue is like when Karlsson played early in his career, as long as there is a solid defender paired with him, you can cover his mistakes. That's not an option here. The problem is two fold with Durzi, he's playing on his off wing, so we'd need to lose one righty and and put him there , and then get a really good lefty. There aren't any out there available . Durzi can be effective if used right, but were just not in that position yet. You got to take the good with the bad with him.

That missed high sticking call on Danault late in the 2nd (I re-watched it like 3 times and it was def. a Calgary high stick) was really crummy. We def. could have used a PP then because Calgary was all over LA in the 2nd.

The icing on the cake his Danault's 'hooking' late in the 3rd, and that was even worse of a call. 🤔

Poor Arvidsson got smashed against the board like 4 times.

Fiala is one of the few gamebreakers we have - this guy can turn it on at a moments notice. He was beastin' all night like he was against Nashville.

nOT REAL surprised with the result, it feels like 2 of 3 games in Calgary since 2014 have been an absolute circus of bounces and shit reffing.

Kings are their own worst enemy and deserved tonight's result but I'll be damned if every little other thing didn't go wrong tonight either...ref assists, bounces off asses to sticks, etc.

Not going to go so far as to say I'm glad they didn't win but they need to learn a lesson from tonight.

I might be the only guy on earth not mad at Durzi, I still think him and Roy are being handicapped in similar manner as Muzzin and Martinez were--that's a management/coaching failure to not fix the personnel and yet still deploy the guy who shouldn't be on his wrong side in big minutes on his wrong side.

Not super optimistic about this road trip anymore, though. We struggle with the Pacific. I'm not going to go into why again
Playing on his off side didn't cause Durzi to make multiple horrendously bad reads that led directly to goals against. Durzi has lacked any semblance of defensive awareness his entire pro career.

Durzi has less than one season of NHL experience and he's an offensive defenseman with major holes in his defensive game being asked to play on his offhand and PK. That's a management and coaching failure, not on the player. As has been said time and time again, you need to put players in a position to succeed

got to make some kind of move for the D Corp....package Durzi & Arvidsson for any room temperature LHD man with size. At a minimum- dress Moverare the next game and start platooning Dman. Apart from Doughty and Andersson you just never will have any consistency with the other 4.

Once again the D was solid last year- you had Bjornfot and Spence; both clearly better than the players on this years roster. This should be a move to be made now or soon- Durzi, Arvidson & a pick. Said we will be lucky to go .500 on the road trip...considering moving that to .250.

they should swap walker and durzi, let druzi play on his natural side while limiting his minutes.

Trying to figure out why fast-forwarding Walker's return is a bigger priority than developing a better kid or sacrificing results with Durzi on the left.

Want to think they are playing chess instead of with themselves.

Well, he completely botched two reads specifically leading to goals by moving into the wrong spaces while on the left that opened up passing lanes right smack in the middle of the ice and the third was because his passing angle was limited because he was on the left and he put the puck right into the ref.

So his already poor awareness was compounded by being on his off side and led to three goals.

Walker should have never been given a 4-year deal. He had just played over 100 games before being awarded that deal. Roy got a 3-year deal. That should be max term for someone who is not a core piece of the team. The Kings are on the hook until the end of next season for Walker and he is imminently replaceable by Spence or you move Durzi down and play him on his natural side and optimal role. Bottom line is the Kings are not icing the best defense they can. They're icing the one they have to because of contractual obligations. Which is a common theme lately.

I will grant that he was on the wrong side when he made the poor reads but I don’t think that was the cause of the bad reads. It did compound the issue, as you note.

I got to the game a bit late, and the score was already King 2 Flames 1.

"this is going to be a different game this time," I said to myself

right...

This is exactly how it is.
If we are realistic, we have to admit that our defense is not up to tasks.

Durzi - Is his offense making up for his fumbles and lack of defense? NO
Walker - Is he able to prevent goals? NO
Edler - Is he able to prevent goals? NO
Anderson - Can he shut down opponents top players as top d-man? NO
Doughty - Is he capable of something? Yes. Is he as dominant as the top defender needs to be ? NO
Roy - Is the only one who kinda plays half descend. He is not the issue

So basically 5 out of 6 defender can't fulfill their role and it shows on the ice and in the stats.
Players like Durzi and Spence are luxury to have if the d-corps is already rock solid to chip in extra scoring,
you don't use those players as regular defenders.

Moverare is untalented as it comes but hets the defensive job done and he has the size and skating to do so.
Grans need to get a couple of games with the big club as well.

Those 2 are a huge upgrade over Durzi, Edler and Walker already

Bullshit, the guy can’t spell defense let alone play it.. he’s on the ice because they feel they need his offense and maybe they’re trying to to gauge if he’s a piece they move forward with or they package..
Playing in his off hand has zero, zip, f***en nada to do with him making stupid decisions. His glaring weakness is his lack of defensive awareness, speed and positioning.. That’s just who he is, an offensive stud with a $0.02 defensive game

And that type of player needs to be protected so they are not a massive detriment to the team, not played on his off hand with Matt Roy who can't carry anyone with a lacking defensive game. So once again, he's not being put in a position to succeed. And the lack of a true LD or ideally two to help carry and shoulder the load for the likes of Durzi, Clarke, Sepnce, etc is a massive failure on management
