Here comes a token “Tkachuk has been assessed a maximum fine allowable by the CBA” just to prove they were actually paying attention to LA/FLorida in LA.

I will be in utter shock if they assess anything beyond that.
He does have a prior fine for high sticking on his record.

He's second on the team in points/60 in all situations. Very good for how little ice time he gets.

So glad to see Arty playing better. That said, he still has to keep improving his ES play. He gets nearly half of his points on the PP, so as long as he keeps getting that time, he'll continue to produce. Him and Vilardi are our best two powerplay guys.

He's got the same amount of ES points as Lizotte in about the same amount of ES time. The way he scores on the PP isn't conducive to ES scoring, so it was fantastic to see him drive down the wing and make that great pass. More of that = more ice time.

One thing that doesn't get mentioned is with the team's schedule there has been little to no time for practices, which affects younger guys more than anything. Kupari had the benefit of that in the AHL and he's flying out there. It's having an effect on Byfield and Kaliyev for sure, and probably Clarke. I'll be interested to see how they improve as there is a little more time on this homestand and they get 3 days between a good amount of times between now and the end of the year.

In his defense he was getting screwed over early in the season in regards to ice time. Lizotte is great too but I bet he'd have a lot more ES points if he had a center or playmaker like Fiala feeding him more often. It's hard to argue that Kaliyev hasn't proved the most out of the prospects in spite of the way he's used. I'd love to see him on PP1 with Fiala and Villardi feeding him

I'm not really sure what you're looking at to come to these conclusions. He's still third in points/60 at even strength, well ahead of Lizotte:

People have complained about Kaliyev's usage. But I think the Kings have brought him along at the right pace.

That 4th line with him and Lizotte works well, so I think he's in a good spot. It allows him to work on his game while still getting PP time.

It is a small sample size of course. But according to that Lizotte is our second best goals per 60 at ES, scoring goals at a rate triple than Arty - who is one of the worst on the team scoring goals at ES. It also shows that Arty is getting the large majority of his points as secondary assists, which indicates he's not necessarily driving play at ES. It's completely opposite of his PP numbers where he has 3g and 1 primary in only 34 minutes. He's had 4 high-danger chances on the PP and scored on 3 of them.

If anything this shows Arty as more of a passenger at ES, same with Byfield.

I think my favorite part of last night's game (besides the win) was when Fox mentioned that Florida felt OK challenging the incidental contact ruling because LA would only have like 40 seconds of PP time if they got it wrong. Then LA scored on the PP. Beautiful.

This is an interesting situation. In the last 12 games the Kings have played, they are the 9th best team in the league. In those 12 games, Kaliyev has 8pts in the 11 games he's played in, in the very low minutes he's played.

If he played more, would they be better? Or, are they using him as efficiently as possible? Chicken or egg.

I'd only offer that his numbers indicate he deserves more ice time. Even if his usage and line mates seem to be the main driver of his production, I think it's generally a good idea to reward players when they play well.

I agree and I think the practice, rest, and home time will make a bigger difference than we’re allowing for right now. It SHOULD allow these guys to get into a bit Of a rhythm and solve some problems instead of just moving on to another city to play in 36 hours.

Of course, some of the problems are bigger, IE LHD. Will have to see what Blake thinks about that too.

It’s an interesting thought too, having Lizotte play the role of an Iafallo on a line instead of the C…but he’s very damn good as a depth center. I’d be curious to see if he’s one of those guys another team tries to pluCk and play as a middle six guy with two talented offensive players instead, or if he just is what he is.

But do you mess with the other lines? If you play Kaliyev more, Fiala, Kempe, Vilardi, Morre, Arvidsson, or Grundstrom play less.

2 games is probably the expected outcome tbh

not gonna be a good look when someone succeeds in blinding a player though

VERY light punishments for intentional stick fouls between this and Kuznetsov’s egregious penalty earlier this season too

Gonna be a bad look and some serious liability coming to roost when someone gets hurt with these cowardly precedents.

This is where people get pissed. It’s the danger and intention that are so bad in this. It’s very clear they looked at this from the damage it caused because if Quick was bleeding from his eye it’d be like 15 games for sure at least. Just because he didn’t get gouged doesn’t mean he should get away with it.

He messed w our HOF goalie's eyesight.. next game its time for a knee. We can live without Lemieux for 15 games
Lemieux cracks me up. He runs his mouth the entire game. There was a moment he was yelling at Tkachuk from the bench saying you ugly motherf****r and Mclellan awkwardly behind him and you know he had to be thinking Lemieux is a lunatic.

I'm not an expert at lip reading, but I believe that as Tkachuk was being escorted off the ice, he yelled, "You fraking loser!"

Agreed. It was either intentionally trying to injure the eye area or reckless attempt to get under a player's skin by ... putting a stick blade to the eye area. Someone getting blinded will be built on a pyramid of "almosts" and "not quites". 2 games for intentionally reckless stick play in the eye area is ... shockingly low.

Also, that's fewer than the 5 games that Brendan Lemieux got last season for biting Brady Tkachuk on the hand.

Too bad he's suspended for one game against the Ducks, since it doesn't help the Kings and doesn't really hurt Florida that much if they lose. Should suspend him for intra-division games instead.
