Agree with you on Arvidsson. Anyone who plays next to Danault and Moore will reap the benefits, but Arvy is such a good fit there right now. Iafallo could slot in there and the line probably wouldn't skip a beat.

The big question for me is what happens when Kopitar's contract comes off the books. Does he sign here again on a 1 or 2 year deal for 5 mill? Will he just retire?

If Gabe doesn't slow down, he's going to have a pretty nice contract. Wonder if Blake will want to try to work a bridge deal with him.

Some guys are going to need waivers next year too so it's time to start working them in, like some guys are obviously next man up but it's getting closer to decision time on guys like Thomas and Madden too. But yeah we're going to need one of those roster spots anyway and imo both Iafallo and Moore fit the tenacious identity of this team better than Arvidsson does, age wise as well. But you would think one of the above goes in a trade for a LHD or otherwise.

With Vilardi finally breaking through, it allows the team to take their time on Byfield. I was always of the opinion that he would be the 2nd guy i would pick in the draft, but also that he would take longer than Stutzle to develop. As long as the management is very clear and positive with him as to why he is going down, and what he needs to work on, the AHL can be a really good thing for development.

Better to take a chance on Kupari, IMO. You don't want to mess up Byfield by rushing him.

You guys are definitely up and comers, but I think you are going to be much better in the next 2-5 years that you will be this year. My team (Wild), is similar, but at least a year behind yours.

So you want everyone to hit ignore on you?

The next time you post anything with evidence will be the first time.

You're not here for reasonable discussion, you're here for performative outrage for anyone that disagrees with every move the org makes.
Evidence? So you are saying I need to focus more on tabloid-esque posts like how the org is setting up Clarke for failure so they can return him to juniors? Yah, you are a master example of reasonable discussion...I'll work on it!

They're "you were right"s masquerading as gotchas. I love it.

And like why would I be unhappy with this setup? Kept everyone fresh for tomorrow, practically everyone was involved and contributing in many different situations...it's how you keep people in the game rather than gassing them out with 24 min. Does anyone think Kupari and Grundstrom dont' benefit from Fiala and vice versa? Is Vilardi learning nothing from Kopitar and Kempe? It's basically my development dreams come true...
I am convinced that Boldy getting to play with Fiala right away supercharged his development. It could be that Boldy was always going to be good, but having a creative guy like Fiala who stretches the ice with his speed and invites linemates to "play" with him can't be a bad thing, unless you are more of a north, south, grinder type.

Eventually, it will be interesting to see Fiala with Byfield.

After Fiala's incredible pass to Vilardi, I was thinking how good a Fiala Byfield Vilardi line would be

Don't tell me you just now figured this out.

This has been his MO for years. That and trying to get in @Sol 's pants

Case in point on the performative outrage, if I didn't know it wasn't satire, I'd say bravo

Anyway the point is if you want to be upset I can be critical in the morning and give props in the afternoon over completely different decisions, that's a you problem not a me problem, feel free to put me on ignore if nuanced opinions and things as complicated as object permanence blow your mind.

I don't ignore anyone, I'm not a p***y.

That's fine, you're just going to have to get used to being angry that posters can hold such wild opinions as "wow I really disagree with this decision but really agree with this other decision" and "Good game guys, here's what I'd like to see improve."
Yah, cause that's EXACTLY how it goes down around here.

I don’t know how anyone can listen to Faust and think he’s a good pbp guy. The dude is corny and adds nothing of value. His voice annoys me too. I thought he’d grow on me or get better but I’m still waiting. Am I out to lunch or do you guys agree?
I'd guess a majority here agree with you, but I personally don't mind Faust. I think he's talented, but I do think he's going to take years to develop his true style, so to speak. I think he's still trying on different styles and personas, and I think most broadcasters don't hit their prime until their 40s and 50s. I like that he's able to broadcast many different sports, and I think it'll eventually make him better at hockey. I'll also say I've been lucky enough to have a beer with him and Nick Nickson, and he's just a solid dude. He hears the criticism, he understands the legacy Bob left, and he's trying to be his own person.

I actually like his voice, but he's a total cheeseball and I find that very annoying.

But again...that's not what we were saying. That's the red herring we were getting annoyed about. No one was asking for Byfield to get 20 minutes on the top line; we were simply asking to reduce the minute spread because it's detrimental for Kopitar to be getting 22+ with Byfield et all getting 8-10, and we were simply asking for vet insulation for the youth, ie this year's Iafallo-Byfield-Vilardi connection. There was zero problem with the kids being on the third line so long as the third line was actually playing.
Yeah, everyone saw the effect of that ice time, especially down the stretch. It was the biggest thing that drove me nuts about TM. But I don't think those few extra minutes per game put the youth back that much, if at all. The development paths for Kupari, Vilardi, and Grundstrom obviously worked for them, even though I think most of the credit should go to the players themselves.

A lot of folks want him gone, but if you think about it, he eventually tries and gets to a lot of stuff talked about around here. Could be a lot worse, at least he's not particularly stubborn.

Kopi's last year is going to be interesting, that's a lot of cash freed up. There are a couple of key UFA's in Matthews and Aho that will be available, and the Kings will likely be able to afford either, depending on what happens with Kopi. It's hard to get a read on what Kopitar is planning, can't tell if he plans on pulling a Brown or a Thornton.

It's refreshing to see Thomas doing better this year after having such a struggle with those shoulder injuries. Jim Fox made a real good point the other night when talking about recovery time with guys like Walker. Can take a year or longer to get back to where you were. Lost time.

It's amazing to see how the stock on a player can change so much overnight. I'm betting a lot of us would have included Vilardi on a variety of trades last year, but we're pumping the brakes on that idea right now.

I'm glad Blake is being so patient with the prospects. I think we would all be upset if any of these guys goes to another team and just starts dominating.

Agree with you on the idea of a trade to address team need. I suspect it will happen this year and we can only hope that it's a good decision for the future of the Kings.

Jesus Christ, the mental gymnastics that go on to police every single f***ing sentence to the contrary that goes on in these threads is tiresome as an observer. I have to wonder what type of childhood trauma would compel someone to give up everything they have to attempt to make sure ever poster is saying exactly the right thing at the right time in the appropriate manner. What a commitment, maybe some day some self reflection will occur.

At this point, I'm not sure I'd be all that pissed if some prospects go somewhere else and light it up, I'd be happy for them. Think of the under 24's we have in the org right now:

Kaliyev
Byfield
Vilardi
Kupari
Anderson
Clarke
Bjornfot
Spence

Heck 5 of them are 21 and under. And that's not counting Turcotte who is a wild card. Grundstrom is right outside of that group. There just isn't going to be space.

Right now, I'd include a lot of guys for the correct defender without even blinking. If they flourish, so be it.

Byfield's line was playing well early in the season, because it was a line the type so many of us wanted, a vet (in that case Iafallo) helping shoulder the burden for the skilled kids. When Iafallo went down and another kid took his place, that line struggled because it's basically the same issues the 3rd line had from last year. Fiala being moved to that line is what's helping Kupari succeed. IMO if Kupari was playing with JAD and Kaliyev, that line would be struggling and having their minutes taken away just like it did with Byfield (and that would not be Kupari's fault). Putting these kids in a position to succeed matters, let Byfield play with Fiala for a few games and lets see what happens
I think it’s pretty interesting to see players of similiar archetypes performing very differently. I think it’s pretty obvious that Kupari is much more stronger and filled out than Byfield. That’s not an insult to Byfield. Age plays a factor there for sure. With the way it’s been going for Byfield however I don’t think he’s ready for the NHL game and he’s not comfortable with his size. For example, Brandt Clarke for his scrawny build is a lot more comfortable on the ice than Byfield looks. I think it will help Byfield a lot to be sent down and just train a lot. I can understand the argument to give Byfield better linemates, however I don’t see him being able to come close to Kuparis current game right now on an individual level which is why I think it’s a bit pointless trying to shuffle him around. Byfield is a big kid that doesn’t have that comfort to use his size and that will come with age, however Kupari is already there with using his size and speed.

Some steroids and a Joe Rogan Elk diet will go a long way for Byfield imo

I completely agree with what you're saying, but with all this talk about developing our rookies it feels like we need a farm system for our broadcasters too.

Wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to let Byfield go back to the AHL and dominate…

Further into the season when remaining daily cap hits allow for this (or now if Calgary makes room):

:kings
Viktor Arvidsson, RW - 2 yrs @ 4.25M (29 yrs)
+?

:flames
Oliver Kylington, LD - 2 yrs @ 2.5M (25 yrs)
+?

It seemed that Kings and Flames fans on the trade board agreed this could be a solid base for both teams' needs. They don't need Kylington as much anymore with Weegar's arrival and likely won't have the cap space to re-sign him. Arvidsson is excellent for us when healthy, but we have reinforcements coming who can mesh alongside Moore-Danault.

Any thoughts? We would likely have to trade or waive someone like Walker to make room in the lineup (or who knows, injuries happen).

I would do that in a heart beat
