It'll probably be a mix, depending on how far the Phantoms actually get.
Some Phantoms will come up to fill holes, others will stay to try and advance.
Andrae can't play for the Flyers under an ATO, but if Gauthier comes out he'll probably sign a pro contract and can play for the big club. The junior kids may depend on their team advancing in the playoffs.

JOB? Do they just take the 2nd rounder?

And I'd expect them to chase undrafted CHL and college players.

Would be typically hilarious if the Phantoms playoff run ends up being 2 games.
Then a few prospects get to finish out the season in Philly.
Biggest reason to hope for a long run is if Andrae comes over, he gets a head start acclimating to NA hockey.

Everything depends on context, if the Phantoms were going nowhere, the prospects would be better off getting acclimated to the NHL.

But if the Phantoms can make a playoff run, that's a better situation than playing in a series of blowout losses in the NHL. AHL playoff hockey is a competitive tier above AHL regular season, and good experience for prospects.

The Phantoms aren't going to make a playoff run.

April minutes matter, but they matter as much in the AHL playoffs, same way CHL playoffs are a better "tell" than the CHL regular season, or the SHL playoffs . . .
Better competition with more at stake.

Playing well in the last 20 NHL games has value as well - but with whom?
Would we learn much with Foerster at RW with Laughton at center?

Like I said, it's six of one, half dozen of the other.

You don't learn to play in the NHL in the AHL.

I don’t get the concept of playing in one round of minor league hockey is going to be of more benefit to a player’s development than twenty games in the show.
Fighting for a playoff slot in the AHL is a better experience than playing out the string and getting blown out in the NHL.

There aren't a lot of Phantoms you could plug in on a bad team (i.e. where they can't be sheltered or have talented teammates carry them) and have them succeed.
Desnoyers, b/c of his fundamentals, Zamula b/c he has NHL experience.
Attard if you had the right partner.
Foerster doesn't look NHL ready to me, nor Wisdom.
Ginning might warrant a look-see, but that's about it.
Who else?

Desnoyers doesn’t look lost on the ice playing against the big boys. Z and Attard have shown some capabilities to play at a higher level. Ersson as well. Foerster may or may not be ready. Ginning possibly. Wisdom not yet.
You grow your game by playing against better players not lesser ones. Like him or not, Torts is a better coach than Lappy. It may well be a shit show in Philly for the rest of the season but what’s going on at LV is no great shakes either.

Ersson will get a lot better experience as the "man" in LHV than playing once a week or less in Philly.
They already know he's NHL caliber, they just want him to get the reps he missed last season.

With Desnoyers, it's probably more about the role he's playing in LHV centering the 2nd line and getting to work on his offense, which is still a work in progress.

Attard is playing better, but his defensive fundamentals are still shaky, if you brought him up you'd want to pair him with Provorov or Seeler, not Sanheim.

That's not going to be prevented by not letting guys into the NHL. It just means they go through it later.

You're defending a process and team that generates only failure.
No they don't. Pens marinate their prospects and they contribute immediately when they're brought up.
Maybe they learn something in the AHL?

What about all the teams who don't do that? You're cherrypicking. As always. And I know that if the Flyers suddenly reversed course and hurled players in as fast as possible, you'd abandon this reasoning immediately to defend the team.
