Ullmark is probably having nightmares due to misshandling that puck in game 5...

That was a true Caps collapse by the Bs. Think it increases the chance of getting Orlov back...

I think the NHL and network brass absolutely do root for every little market advantage possible. Every 10K or whatever viewers they use as a metric matters when trying to sell advertising.

Hockey is all about spreadsheets.

Eh. Overall Toronto over Tampa is good for the NHL. I think there's a degree of Tampa fatigue anyway. Good for others to emerge. Outside of high pace and high scoring generally it's got to mostly be about how far Matthews & McDavid go.

The pace in all of the match-ups will be pretty awesome and that's the basic selling point. Not a plodding team among them. Carolina is the most traditional checking sort of team left but not exactly boring. FLA is quite the eight seed and overall there's likely to be a lot of chances, a lot of scoring. Even DAL/SEA may not be sexy but that one's going to be played at fast forward.

To be fair, the entire Bruins team looked like they were getting man handled most of the G7 I watched. Outside of a short burst, the Cats were just hungrier.

B's fan already over Orlov. Will gladly take him back

This is what I was wondering last night. If the Bruins had won and gone deep in the playoffs I think a long-term deal for Orlov to stay in Boston is a lock.

Now, not so certain.

That series loss also prevents "greatest team ever" bragging rights. Imagine if they'd won the Cup after breaking all those reg season records. Yow.

Boston might not re-sign Orlov but he did nothing but increase his value since he was traded. Who's going to forget the "Orr-lov" headlines? Certainly not NHL GMs! Sure if they went deep or won the Cup his value would have been even higher, but for now Orlov is well positioned to cash in this offseason.

So it's hard to imagine Washington signing him at market value being a prudent move. If he wants to take a discount then sure I'd entertain it. But he's going to be 32 years old which is already not great, and if they keep Carlson on PP1 then a lot of his utility would continue to go to waste.

He didn’t have a great series, him and Mcavoy didn’t look great together. He also wasn’t a real physical presence which I bet Boston was expecting from him. I wonder where he goes tho

Am I wrong or is Toronto the favourite in the east now with Boston and Tampa out?

From the west, it looks like it's Edmonton.

A Tor-Elm final sure would be something for hfboards

I still don't believe in their defense. They were outplayed for vast stretches against Tampa and Tampa wasn't that great. I'd favor Florida. They're deeper up front and faster, even more of a handful. Carolina is likely too thin up front to prevail if they make to the ECF even so whoever emerges from that TOR/FLA series does seem like the favorite.

Out West I'd similarly think it's whoever emerges out of the VGK/EDM series.

I think Tkachuk is going to be an issue for Toronto. What a player he is. Florida losing Weegar hurt them but getting Tkachuk signed for his prime years instead of sticking with mid-30s Huberdeau was a coup.

That said I think I still favor the Leafs in the series. Their D can be questionable at times but so can Florida’s. One thing Florida will probably need is Barkov playing up to expectations and I’m not sure that will happen.

I think it’s going to be a hell of a series though!

Pgh would've needed 2 add'l points during the RS to place 8th over Fla. Does anyone think that group could've done as well against the Bruins? Although the playoffs are always a bit of a crapshoot, in retrospect the B's drew one of the worst match-ups possible for them in R1.

Matthew Tkachuk is a beast. The game winner they scored last night was as good as hockey can be played. Get dirty behind the net and get the puck in the hands of a guy with a great shot.

Bruins have $6M in cap space and 8 players to sign next year, yikes

If not Orlov, go for Bertuzzi. He was great

Hall already picked Boston on a discount in his prime FA years. I think hes staying but the salary cap is a beast.
