Byram - Makar probably is the best pairing in hockey in 5-6 years. It's going to take poor management or bad luck to not continue being a playoff team at that point.

Sakic is building a franchise but not a lot of people are realizing that in here.

But it's understandable to spread out the talent a bit and keep Toews with Makar who have great chemistry together.

I’m not a big JFresh guy either.

I don’t love the way he formats his player cards. I just generally disagree with the way he grades a lot of players and he puts too much emphasis on defence for forwards.

It’s not like I know more than him, it’s just a difference of opinion and I prefer looking at info from other analytics guys.

Analytics people hated Brady going that high. Also analytics is how you get RNH over Landy too.

This really cuts many ways and isn’t a simple black and white thing.

People will tout the Avs use of analytics but forget this team traded assets for Kurtis MacDermid, Josh Manson and signed who analytics people believe to be quite literally the worst defensemen in NHL history, Jack Johnson.

Use analytics as a tool, but it sure as hell is not the end-all-be-all of hockey.

Also using analytics for drafting is just a poor choice IMO. There are too many factors at play and you're projecting what a guy will be in 5+ years mostly. Obviously, look at some statistics but just trust your eye/gut.
They are much more useful in pro-scouting,

Why can't you compare? They are basically the same age. Milano has ~200 games in the NHL and will be with his third org. It isn't like we don't have a good picture of who he is.

Milano has talent, but he's simply a shitty hockey player. Put him in Arizona and he puts up points. Put him on the Avs and he struggles to get in the lineup.

Was mentioned earlier and I stated my bad on that mixup. That said, Dahlen is worse than both of them by quite a bit. I’d take Milano over Dahlen every single time.

Dahlen is a project like Nichushkin 3 years ago. Dahlen has a lot more talent than Milano. He needs a little time and a good entourage to allow him to reach his potential

Dahlen’s skating has been his biggest limiting factor. Don’t see him being able to get it going on such a skating heavy team like the Avs

Love or hate JFresh’s model all you want but it’s likely pretty similar to the Avs model. The closest thing we’ll likely see to the Avs model though is Evolving Hockey. Their model is completely learned from DTM who is the Avs analytical guru. They’ve explained that on their podcasts. Who knows what DTM’s model has developed into since it’s no longer public ever since Kroenke bought him for himself but he is the original creator of the WAR model.
