Honestly, with some of the cap circumvention we have seen...I wouldn't be surprised.

Heck, I'm half expecting the Lightning to offer Chris Pronger and Bobby Orr 7 year 12 million dollar contracts only to immediately LTIR those contracts.
Lol. Sad that we even have to joke about this.

It's too bad the LTIR rule is written so poorly. Whenever possible this needs to be addressed. It's simple injuries happen and it sucks. But you shouldn't be able to LTIR them to open up their cap hit. And teams should have to be cap compliant in the postseason.

Putting someone on LTIR should be something like a 1.5M exception. Just enough to bring up a minor leaguer or sign an unsigned veteran.

I like to think that I know almost everything there is to know about the salary cap including ELC bonuses, 35+ contracts, buyout structures, and in season cap space accrual, but I don't understand how, for example, Vegas having Shea Weber's contract or Tampa having Seabrook's contract that they can put on LTIR gives them any kind of advantage. Can someone please explain (or link an article)?

They can over the cap by that much essentially. So they can’t accrue cap space til the TDL like everyone else, but they are able to go over the cap by the amount of those contracts.

Since performance bonuses count on next year's cap I'm assuming that this is the Bruins' last year at trying for the cup.

He's going to sit the first 73 games while training, then play the final 9 and be ready for the playoffs. Cap problems solved.
They can rollover 2.5m against next year's cap instead of having against this year's... regardless if Bergeron plays all 82 games.

Ya the $2.5M in bonuses is genius by the Bruins. They can just move that to next year and have one more all in season this year with Bergy only costing them $2.5M for this year.

Good stuff from them

Bruins have $2M left to sign Zacha now... or $2.9M if they go with a 22 man roster.

They can probably squeeze him down to ~$2M I would guess.

I'd say they are likely to try to re-tool on the fly that'll take them out for a couple seasons (if they can get back). Defense is fairly young and locked up. Swayman might be their next 8+ year starter. They need to figure out the mess up front starting with Pasta.

Wonder if this is going to be a new cap cheating thing from now on. You can kick the can down the road with performance bonuses and stop it when you're no longer competitive. In theory it would work.

Like say the Avs sign Kadri for 5 years 3.5M salary and a random 3.5M performance bonus

This year Kadri would cost only 3.5M against the cap
Then 7M the next 4 years (his normal cap hit)
Then 3.5M in dead cap space the 6th year (window closed and the cap went up anyway)

Edit: no it wouldnt work as explained below

Don’t the players have to be over 35? Or on ELCs?

Just looking, contracts have to be only 1 year long.

Kevin Weekes is worst then my mom talking to my toddler on FaceTime. There is a reason they let you see yourself in selfie mode dude. Too much forehead.

Also I'm really curious to see what the Avs do here. I wonder if as someone mentioned they're waiting til August 15th, and or training camp to see how OO looks. Based on training camp last year where he was potting goals without really having a rounded out game could mean he looks at the big club for some of the year. Use him on the PP and net some beauties. Let him develop the rest of his game playing lesser minutes at even strength.

Boston Bruins not on meth in 2015...

Pasta-Bergeron-Marchand
Hall-Barzal-Connor
Coyle-JEE-Zacha
Foligno-Krejci-Smith

Lindholm-McAvoy
Grzelcyk-Carlo
Reilly-Zboril

Boom

You know that's part of the schtick right?

Well now the Bruins probably do need to move some salary. They're about $1.5M over on a 23 man roster, 600k over for a 22 man roster...

Be interesting to see what they do and which gets moved

Thomas Chabot instead of JEE damn what a miss by Boston there. At least they got their #1 dman the draft after.

But how does that help? Avs can have maximum salary of $82.5 million among active players on opening day. With or without Weber on LTIR, Vegas can have maximum salary of $82.5 million among active players on opening day. How does having someone permanently on LTIR help cheat the cap?

I've seen a few respected posters mention this, but I don't understand how it actually works.

Vegas can spend whatever Webers contract is over the cap. So like 89.5 or whatever that would be.

The Avs have to know this, at this point. I doubt Naz has left them twisting in the wind.

Good for Naz. Hope he gets all the money.

I think they knew this for some time and have decided the internal route to fill the 2C is the way to go.
