The only teams with like more than 5M cap space after re-signing theirs RFAs and filling up their 23 man roster are DET, CHI, ANA, BUF, and ARI. Not exactly contenders

There’s tons of LTIR around the league.

If that's true, then Kadri - like Klingberg - is likely going to cost himself a lot of money by wildly overvaluing himself.
Klingberg reportedly turned down 7M X 8 from the Stars earlier this season because he wanted 8M X 8

Exact same thing happened to Taylor Hall. He turned down the huge 8 year contract from Arizona, got no good offer in the summer, signed 1 year in Buffalo then the meh 6M X 4 contract in Boston.

Just like Hall, Klingberg is going to lose a LOT of money. Possibly Kadri too if he goes down that path.

Next level salad. Haters will hate but get this kid a contract.
Next level salad indeed...but my god, what a punchable face. His face is screaming for a beat down. I want this kid as a friend. There is going to be a lot of funny shit happening around him.

[edit...I think it's the pouty lips, and the way his eyebrows are arched combined with the fact that he could sell advertising on his forehead that does it.]

Couple of random thoughts...

If Kadri is still asking for 9M per...he needs to switch agents again. This change in representation he made specifically for UFA...I do not think it did him any favors. I'm not sure Sakic even gave him the "you are worth every penny speech" if that's what Darren Ferris came at him with.

If Klingberg really turned down 7M x 8 from Dallas...I'm really glad we never acquired him. He has obvious IQ issues that I was not aware of. I apologize for suggesting we ever try to get him.

To be fair it was pretty well known at the time that his heart was on signing with the Bruins. He waited and waited for them to clear cap space, they couldn't so he signs a fat 1 year deal with Buffalo and then used his NMC at the TDL to help make the trade with Boston.

Called it with Kadri, knew the reason he hasn't signed was because he didn't like the offers, not the teams are trying to clear space crap that just been rumored.

He and his agent have f***ed this one up pretty badly.

Feel bad that this was Kadri's chance for a big deal and their ask was simply to big. Very much overplayed their hand and teams called the bluff.

The most credible reports so far are that he does indeed has a deal in place with Lou.

Larry Brooks was super vague, I doubt that he learned anything.

Sorry just not buying the trying to make space crap. It doesn't take over a month to clear space. Not to mention teams aren't going to just change their trade offer, what they were offering via trade a month ago is probably what they are still offering.

It's much more likely that there is no deal in place due to demands being too high from Kadri and he's hoping someone blinks before the start of camp.

Either way this has been a mess by him and his agent. Not sure he'll be getting that long term, big money deal he was hoping for.

Meh, I don't know how badly he f***ed it up, he knew he wasn't going to get a max deal because he said right away he wanted to go to a contender. Those teams usually don't have the cap space to throw out a max money deal or anything approaching it. He just wants something long term and more than what the Avs are offering, apparently.

The unfortunate thing for Kadri is the Salary Cap exists and nobody wants to spend that much money on a 2nd line centre. The guy has to be realistic and understand that he can't just demand #1 money after one great season on a Cup Championship team and have teams chomping at the bit to sign him.

Did you miss the part where Lou announced a bunch of UFA signings in September 2 years ago?

He has done exactly that before

What the Parise signing? Big difference between a basically league minimum contract and what Kadri is looking for.

Lot easier to get a league minimum deal at the last second to fit in than a 7M+ deal.

Just not buying it that the only issue holding things up is Lou trying clear space.

So you think Kadri and his agent are just waiting at home for a miraculous contract offer not knowing where he's going to play next year? Yea, that's not serious.

FTR it wasn't just Parise, there were others too. Lou verbally agreed with them on UFA day and asked them to not sign elsewhere. It took him several weeks to make cap space and make it official, that's just the way Lou likes to do things. He takes his time and don't want anything to leak to the media.

Palmieri, Cizikas, Sorokin, Beauvillier & Parise. They were done early in the summer only to be announced in September.

It does when teams that have an abundance of Cap Space know that they now have a shit-ton of leverage. They no longer have to take small (relatively speaking) amounts to take on salary. They can--and should have been operating this way for a while--demand higher prices to take on that salary.
