Still seems unlikely he gets moved. Chances are Bailey gets moved. I can’t see them moving Bailey and Barzal to fit Kadri. Only thing they could really do is move Barzal for a C at a similar level or for a prospect and hope he hits which seems pretty risky.

Yeah unless he wants out I can't see him moving, it'll be interesting to see how he does away from the Trotz system. They're starved for high end offense as it is so moving Barzal would be dumb.

It definitely isn't out of the realm of possibility the Islanders trade Barzal.. And signing Kadri could even be a backup plan for going that route already. The biggest reason is the insane QO he gets next summer as an RFA. Yeah his cap hit is only $7M for this year... But his actual salary is $10,000,000 which means his QO for next summer is $10M. Not only that, but this upcoming season is his 6th year as an NHLer. That means he can sign his QO next summer as an RFA and then be a UFA the summer of 2024.

Honestly if I was Lou, and Barzal wasn't willing to sign a contract extension this summer, I'd be exploring trading him right now. $10M for what he's show in the NHL so far in his career is simply an awful deal for the Islanders, and then he walks straight into Free Agency the year after that.

Unfortunately for them, losing Barzal almost certainly means they'd be done as a Cup contender but at the same time if they were being brutally honest with themselves, they just missed playoffs last year and have one of the oldest cores in the league, a lot of guys are well over 30 on that team already And by the sounds of some things are about to sign a 32 year old Kadri to a 7 year deal according to Pagnotta today.


They're in a tough spot, but honestly trading Barzal should absolutely be something they are considering if they cant get him signed to an extension this summer.

Couple of random thoughts...

If Kadri is still asking for 9M per...he needs to switch agents again. This change in representation he made specifically for UFA...I do not think it did him any favors. I'm not sure Sakic even gave him the "you are worth every penny speech" if that's what Darren Ferris came at him with.

If Klingberg really turned down 7M x 8 from Dallas...I'm really glad we never acquired him. He has obvious IQ issues that I was not aware of. I apologize for suggesting we ever try to get him.

I'll be surprised if the Avs don't sign him next summer...
