7 years for a guy like that is a big commitment, so I understand the lower AAV. He's set now. His body could completely fall apart in 2-3 years after a few more Cup runs and he's secured the bag.

It works for Tampa during their window and it works for him long-term.
Yup... that's all this is. AAV went down with the term. Paul gets to live in a beach house for the next 7 years and contend for the Cup for ~3-4 more years.

f***. Thats a sweet deal for Tampa. I really like Paul.

It's also possible that Paul was never a 5M guy like some people here tought.
I low key would have loved him for 5Mill. Guy is pretty damn awesome and the rest of the league about to know it if they havent already.

How about Christian Dvorak for 2C?

Elliott Friedman said last season that a team in the West were looking at Dvorak, which very well could have been the Avs given that they had interest a couple of years ago. That being the case I said at the TDL that I had a sneaky suspicion that Sakic was working on a Lehkonen + Dvorak trade (my proposal was 1st + Barron + JTC for those two), and half of that trade turned into reality. I wonder if we see the other half happen as well this off-season. Not sure what piece(s) Montreal would want for Dvorak though.

Definitely sucks for Guerin considering it’s a mess he didn’t have anything to do with those contracts.

Also I’m sure he tried to move the contracts but those things were un-tradeable essentially. 3 more years at 8mil with full NMC’s.
Remember those smug mild fans and how cocky they were when those 2 stooges signed those contracts with them? Lol not only didn't they win anything (NOT EVEN CLOSE!) now they are getting f***ed by those contracts for a few more years as well.

Well deserved for such a shitty franchise and their crappy fans.
If we make a Girard trade to LA I hope it's for something like Walker + Grundstrom.
Walker makes one of EJ/Manson able to exit the roster (miss you already) and Grundstrom gets us a very effective bottom 6er who showed up big in the POs
I don't think I'd make that particular trade but I absolutely love Grunstrom.

Avs off season resign target how the roster will 2023-24 and after Toews resinging

Forward;
Compher contract cover new Mac wage. Mac is a big team player and resign will about 10M.
Resign Lekhonen and Nuke for 5 yrs
Let go Kadri, Burakovsky and 30 yrs+.

Def:
On Def roll on Toews/Makar/Byram.
Girard trade in TDL to give a place develop another Def prospect and cap space

Sakic in goal to build a long term dynastie team should target signing Barzal as UFA in 1 year. Definitely he go away from NYI. He fit perfectly to Avs team spirit. Barzal will motivated to join Avs play with this kind of teammates in top 6. The deal about 10M Avs will able to afford.

Roster: cup winners core and prospects that are very skilled.
Barzal still has 1 more year on his contract at $7M and will be an RFA. His UFA days are likely going to be in his 30s.

We should just trade G to Ottawa for Norris, fleece them once more for old time's sake.

More realistically though, it'll probably be a swap for Gourde to get our 2C. Reasonable cap hit with only 3 years on it, Sakic loves those kinds of contracts
Not unlike Sean Monahan, Ottawa fans won't love the later parts of the crazy contract that Josh Norris is about to get from the Senators. You can quote me on that in 3-4 years.

Gotta get Copp here if you can’t retain Naz.
It would be nice but I doubt NYR let him go. He was a good fit for them.

Edit: I didn’t see the NHL tweet. Hopefully Joe gets in on that. We should finally be a top destination for free agents

Andrew Copp is a frigging winger. Why is he in the discussion for a Kadri replacement? Replacing Burakovsky or God forbid Nuke should he walk, ok.

Looks like he’s testing the market if that above tweet is true. NYR probably don’t want him to, but oh well.
Yeah I didn’t see that until just now. Surprising but I don’t pretend to know NYR cap situation.

Is Copp a real center or more of a winger who could play center when needed ?
He is a Center but played a lot of wing in Winnipeg and NYR. Maybe he is not a great center. The real question is would Bednar think he is better than JTC?

Copp to Colorado, Kadri to NYR. (BP3.6)

As long as Sakic fields a competitive offer there's no reason why Copp wouldn't strongly consider Colorado. There's a gaping hole at 2C waiting to be filled where he can play with elite players like Rantanen and Byram most of the time while competing for cups on a team with a great locker room. And there's a nice river too.

He played wing on a line that was centered by Ryan Strome. There's your answer.

yeah I know. Strome’s work along the boards is terrible so I can see why Gallant wanted Copp there instead. He is much more competitive/physical player than Ryan Strome.

Copp is a natural center that hasn't had a chance to show he can or can't be a 2C. Worst case you have a 2nd line winger that can sub in center for stretches. Best case he's a good 2C that can be relied on in both ends. Quite the risk to take IMO, but absent other choices (Trocheck should be the first UFA option) he'd be worth a shot over the internal options.

I must be missing something because the consensus is Paul's deal is a steal. To me he's a slow 3C with mediocre offensive ability. If UFA Paul is worth 5M then UFA Nichushkin is is worth 7-8M and I doubt anyone here would be willing to pay that.
