Just dicked around on CapFriendly and have no idea what to do this off-season. But these are the musts:

1. Re-sign Nuke
2. Decide between riding with Darcy and securing a real solution (Ulmark, Knight, or YOLO Hellebuyck-like trade)
3. 2C

Biggest questions:
1. Could Newhook replace Kadri? Or should we trade him for a 2C replacement (Schiefele?)
2. Did the Avs sneak by with Darcy or can he back up the way again until there’s a longer term solution?

Personal wants:
1. Poolparty. Dude could be the next Nuke. A line up with him, Nuke, and Lehkonen could be the greatest forechecking line up ever.
2. Calvin DeHaan. A cheaper Manson replacement. Give him the Murray $2mx1 contract.

An underrated repercussion of this Cup run is just how desirable a destination Colorado is going to be for any and all starting goaltenders on the open and trade markets. The world just watched this team absolutely dominate their way to a Cup despite some historically bad goaltending. Could be quite the sweepstakes if they let Darcy walk.
I would love it if it worked that way, but I don't think it does. All players want to get paid during the limited time they have in the league. And just last summer the preseason Cup favorites (us) had an open slot for a starting goalie and what happened was that we were the odd man out in goalie musical chairs and we had to give up significant assets for one year of Kuemper. I think management needs to have a clear Plan A and Plan B in the goalie market so we're not wasting trade capital or draft capital again.

Those were special circumstances. Barrie had a much bigger rep around the league at that time than Sammy does now, and Toronto happened to have an extra 2C laying around they apparently didn't need anymore. I don't see a team anywhere in the league that has that scenario at present.

I`d throw Girard + futures at Nashville for Granlund and see if it sticks. Granlund has 5M caphit for 3 more yrs and is 30. Good 2-way 2C. Nashville will probably loose Forsberg and will probably not be playoffbound.

What?!?! Hell no!
He did have 64p in Nashville last season. I think he would look good on Avs 2nd as he is a pass-first guy

Landy - MacKinnon - Nichuskin
Lehks - Granlund - Rantanen

What the f***
64p center in Nashville would be way more on Avs. Kadri will demand a lot more and so will guys like Trocheck etc. At 5M a 1B/2A center is a bargain. A 2-way C more so

In the event guys like Kadri, Burakovsky, Manson, Kuemper, etc are going to walk as UFAs I hope that Sakic is doing all he can to trade their rights to teams that are interested and believe they can sign the player(s) before free agency begins.

A team like Philadelphia might be stupid enough to send a 5th our way for Kadri's rights for example to ensure they can sign him before he hits the market.

Kadri's rights are worth a 3rd IMO

maybe I'm crazy but trading Rantanen for New Jersey's 2nd pick, Zacha and Foote or Holtz would allow us to sign Forsberg and get 2 top prospects.or something like that with another top 5 team in draft ranking.
or with Ottawa 7OA , Brown, Greig and Forsberg(goalie) something original and little crazy like that.

Why on earth are we the team adding futures for a 30 year old Center that scored 11 goals last year, and two years ago was on his way out of the league entirely?

Fun to speculate on deals but this year feels like almost no outside signings and the team works quickly to see who they can keep. Then a few signings like Helm that we don't understand but probably work out. I don't see trades of guys with term, really hard to see Sammy moving unless someone blows them away with an offer. Yeah losing Kadri would suck but there isn't anyone out there you'd expect 87 points out of anyways, including Naz. Even if the team isn't as good they had a lot of excess value out there, they could have won with less. I think they know that and will be willing to use what they have and sign a few more cheap vets hoping they get a year out of them. Then at TDL fill holes but less so because the assets are mostly gone.

Or we keep Rantanen, don't overpay for an injury prone, only topped 70 points once Filip Forsberg and don't ruin the core of this team.

He was never on his way out of the league. Its not like you offer a 5M contract to a guy like that. He had a down year when his unborn died after beeing traded...
You do know that assists create goals? For 64p on Nashville, you can expect a rise in Colorado. It`s not like Avs are lacking shooters and Granlund is a very good passer. Futures doesnt always mean high picks...

One benefit of going this deep in the playoffs is that we’re two weeks away from a bunch of action. Non stop hockey.
Now the REAL action can begin! :naughty::sarcasm:

I'm surprised I haven't seen this suggested more, but at what point do you just let Frankie start next year and grab a capable backup in case he gets injured? I know that it's not ideal, especially with Frankie's injury history, but the FA goalie market kind of sucks this year and they've shown that they can succeed with just average goaltending. And while I don't think he's a top quality starting goalie, I don't think there's that much of a dropoff from Kuemper. He's held down the fort just fine when called upon.

Given how good our defense is, I think I'd rather have Francouz starting and get to keep someone like Nuke than sign Campbell or trade for Gibson and be millions shorter on cap space with no guarantee that either of them are a huge improvement considering both have proven to be a little bit inconsistent.
At what point do you let Frankie be the starter? Simple: you don't. He's a backup, that's it.

Seravalli says Manson more than likely going back to Anaheim (his wife is from there and they like it there and it was the plan from the start). So that sucks.

He thinks that we re-up Kadri and let Kuemper walk. Also says Nuke priced himself out of Colorado so he's not coming back either.
Can there be more bad news in one post? How do I dislike a post? :eek3:

I'm not sold on Manson going back to Anaheim, or at least it not being a foregone conclusion.

Anaheim's GM has been pretty adamant about not giving long-term deals to players that don't fit their core so the most I can see is a 3-4 year contract. Manson seems like the type of guy that doesn't like change that much, so I'd still put Colorado right up there with Anaheim for frontrunners to re-sign him. All depends on how much salary Manson is willing to leave on the table to sign back with the Avs or Ducks.

Please go to the nearest mental hospital and repeat that statement to the front desk.

Hell he even asked not to be paroled from prison.

Wait, wrong Manson.
