Seravalli says Manson more than likely going back to Anaheim (his wife is from there and they like it there and it was the plan from the start). So that sucks.

He thinks that we re-up Kadri and let Kuemper walk. Also says Nuke priced himself out of Colorado so he's not coming back either.
NUKE IS COMING BACK.

I am 100% down for a Toews trade, sell high. What could we get for him though? Gibson?

I think there's some commitment and focus issues there. @Gigantor The Goalie would probably be able to give a better write up on him, but he clearly has the physical tools to thrive in the NHL but is held back by some other stuff.
He gave a reason why Kuemper is doing fine and all the bitching is overboard but you ignored it and kept crying about Kuemper. Now you want his input on Samsonov, a goalie who you think is better than Kuemper. Just lol

He's said he wants to stay with the Avs.

His wife's preference doesn't exactly align with the Ducks timeline.

There's a lot up in the air. It makes sense for Manson to go back to Anaheim, Kadri & Nuke to chase the money.. but we have something special here and could easily see 2/3 of them coming back. I don't think anyone really knows at this point.

I’ve said all along that Kuemper and Grub are similar level goalies. They’re legit starters. But that also doesn’t change the fact that Kuemper was bad this postseason. Just like Shesty is elite but didn’t have a great round 1. Both things can be true.

FTR Ronnie Franchise is a worse GM than I gave him credit for if he takes Newhook for Gourde. It would take something more than that I believe.

Now, Sammy for Gourde? That's more feasible. I don't think I'd do that, but it's feasible.

Girard for Gourde is almost a perfect trade for both teams. As long as Manson Re-signs.

Landeskog- Mackinnon- Nichushkin
Lehkonen- Gourde- Rantanen
Newhook- Meyers- Compher
Aube Kubel- Sedlak- O'Connor

Byram - Makar
Toews - Manson

We need to round out the bottom pair but I'd expect us to add some vets or maybe EJ and JJ come back to run it back.

But thats not that big of a dropoff from this year's squad.

I fully agree with this plan. Offer him long term...either it becomes an awesome deal down the road or worst case scenario is LTIR. Also Byram is sure to make his money no matter what.

Win-win.

Can they re-sign him this off-season?

I’d be all over that if I’m Colorado. I’d try to go 8 years, if I could.

I think the concussion stuff will be behind Byram for a while. Dude took a ton of hits in the playoffs and wasn’t fazed.

Avs off season resign target how the roster will 2023-24 and after Toews resinging

Forward;
Compher contract cover new Mac wage. Mac is a big team player and resign will about 10M.
Resign Lekhonen and Nuke for 5 yrs
Let go Kadri, Burakovsky and 30 yrs+.

Def:
On Def roll on Toews/Makar/Byram.
Girard trade in TDL to give a place develop another Def prospect and cap space

Sakic in goal to build a long term dynastie team should target signing Barzal as UFA in 1 year. Definitely he go away from NYI. He fit perfectly to Avs team spirit. Barzal will motivated to join Avs play with this kind of teammates in top 6. The deal about 10M Avs will able to afford.

Roster: cup winners core and prospects that are very skilled.

I'm actually worried if we don't move Girard this offseason his value will actually drop. It's a possibility he gets removed off the PP(9 points last year, 7 this year) and his minutes go down abit. Last years offense is still fresh in people's minds and he was actually solid in this years playoffs before getting hurt.

Just guess work but with how much Bednar trusted Byram in game 6 .. it's completely possible he rides Toews/Byram/Makar pretty hard next year. We saw how much he leaned on Makar/Toews in the regular season. What if Girard's offense dries up with no PP time, less TOI, and he's still making 5 mill a year? IMO he's not a great partner for Makar/Toews/Byram either.

Nah. Next year the top 3 won't be ridden nearly as hard especially in the meaningless regular season.

Damn that sucks . Without Manson and EJ situation not clear , we need to shore up the right side of D again .

Pretty sure the NHLPA would be pissed off. I'm not an expert or anything but across all sports taking an unrealistic discount is usually looked down at because it can affect the entire market. I don't think MacKinnon could sign for 7 mill even if he wanted too.

I'm guessing he signs for 10-11 mill which much like the Makar contract would be taking less than he could fight for.

IMO on the free market Mack is worth 13M X 7 (91M total)

With the Avs they can offer him the same money on 8 years...so 11.375M AAV. That seems fair.

To be honest I could totally see MacKinnon being like "I don't give a f***, I wanna win" and sign for like ~9.5M. Maybe even less than that on a shorter term contract.

I just don't think that's how Bednar see's it. Avs have absolutely dominated the regular season and yet he's continued to ride them. Even after the massive disappointing loss vs Vegas last year. Just look at the last month of the season for Makar this year. Bednar was playing him like 26 minutes a game lol that wasn't needed.

I think if we keep Girard either two things happen. He eats into Byram's minutes and people are disappointed or his TOI/lack of PP time reduce his points and hurt his value. It's pretty clear at this point Byram thrives and is much better with a bigger role. Who knows what Girard looks like in a 18-19 minute type role.

Moving Girard just feels like a no brainer IMO. We just won a cup without him. Byram arrived. It's cost cutting season and were losing depth. Keeping him to be a #4 who doesn't play on the PP just feels like a waste of assets when were short on them already.

We weren't playing with a healthy Byram all season though. We've had games with mcdermaid on D and JJ played most of the season.
