They have $6.7m in capspace with a 19 man roster. Add two $800k players, that leaves $5.1m for a forward to complete the roster.

$5.1m isn't enough for Nichuskin unless he takes a discount, but they could raise an extra $2m by buying out Myers and replacing him with a $1m Dman, thus giving them $7.1m... enough to sign Nuke.

Or just trade Killorn. They have a number of avenues to make it work.

Or they could trade Killorn for say Mike Smith and a pick, put Smith on LTIR, then sign Nuke, and trade for Pat Kane at 50% retained...
Or Joe can do that with JTC and free up $5.7M in space ($30.135M in cap space). Then trade G for Pat Kane 50% retained, and then still have $29.9M to sign Naz, Nuke, Manson, Lehk, and George.

Naz 5 × $8M
Nuke 6 × $6M
Lehk 5 × $5M
Manson 4 × $5M
George 3 × $3.5M

$27.5M leaves you with $2.635M in space to sign 4C and/or 6D

Landy/Mack/Kane
Nuke/Naz/Mikko
Lehk/Meyers/Hook
Cogs/???/LOC

Toews/Makar
Bo/Manson

Nichuskin is more than 4 years younger, which is plenty of reason.

Do you think Killorn is a capdump?
For them it would be. Edmonton lost Kassian and has some cap space now. Killer is a better player than Kassian, and they were gonna burry Smith on LTIR anyway. Essentially, they would only lose $2.25M in cap space, and get a good player that can play in any situation.

Manson or Girard. Who would we rather have for the next 5 years? Going to cost about the same. Pick one

For 5 years, Girard AINEC.

I dont get this boards infatuation with Manson. He's about to he 31 years old. He had a good playoffs but I wouldn't say it was a great one. He had some real dud games throughout the run. And ultimately it's a 20 game sample size.

He was awful in the regular season and he has regressed for 3 years straight now in Anaheim, he is past his prime.

If he wanted to come back on 2 year deal or something, I'd say there's some merit to a deal. But he obviously can get more term on the open market. The Avs should walk away.

He came here and did what we asked, won his cup. Now he can go and get his payday elsewhere.

We can replace him in UFA for a lot cheaper. Just look at someone like Brett Kulak or Calvin De Haan. Or make a trade for Scott Mayfield this summer or at the deadline next year.

Nichuskin is more than 4 years younger, which is plenty of reason.

I dont think he's a cap dump but he'd fetch little in return. Probably worth like a 3rd or something

Winning any type of championship be it the Stanley Cup in hockey, Lombardi trophy in football, Larry O'Brien trophy in basketball, World Series trophy in baseball.

Winning costs. You usually win when you are at the near edge of your role players and star players needing new contracts. Once you have to increase the compensation for your players it tends to get prickly.
As everyone here knows, you have to make choices. The role players tend to get overpaid more so than anyone else.
Other teams that want to contend and have holes to fill chase after the championship experience and pay for a potential uptick in production for an increased role.

I won't say that there is a "tax" to winning the cup. Once players have the ring, they tend to chase the money. Especially role players. They usually get one shot at a pay day and have to take it.

JBB would be pretty ruthless to send Killorn to Edmonton of all places

Palat has also played for that organization for a decade. Not all value comes in just numbers and analytics. I'm pretty damn sure that organization and locker room would value Palat more. Just like with PEB, Nuke would have to take a discount. Bellemare took that, he said it pretty clearly that he and his wife preferred Florida, Sakic wanted to bring him back. If Nuke is willing to take much less to go to Tampa then nothing we can do about it. But I doubt this will happen.

TB management have shown they’re pretty ruthless and value winning the most. McDonagh took a pay cut to extend there, didn’t stop JBB from asking him to waive his NTC. If a younger and superior player is available at that position why would they not explore this option?

Ps: I want Nichushkin to stay in Colorado, fits the team like a glove.

Trade him to Edmonton for a 3rd and Smith's cap hit. Frees up $6.65M in cap space and they get a 3rd round pick.

Palat has been there for 10 years and in the org for 12, and been one of their most clutch players. Nichushkin being 4 years younger means nothing to them.

McDonagh wasn't traded because a younger, more superior player was available though. He was traded for the sole purpose of finding money for Paul & Palat.

The locker room reportedly was already unhappy at McDonagh being traded. They wouldn't take too kindly to the organization not finding money for the guy they supposedly moved a locker room leader to find said money for.

Manson + assets from trading Girard. Next year is our best chance to win another cup in the next 5 years, and Manson provides more with Byram, Makar, and Toews here.

I also think it’s a lot easier to replace Girard with a guy like Miller on the cheap than it is with Manson. There aren’t many guys that can play a physical game, take a hit, skate, and process the game quick enough to be effective in Bednar’s system. The fact he’s a RHD which are unicorn to begin with is just the icing on top.

I will say the most i’d go is 4.5 mil x 4 or 4 mil x 5, but ideally you get him on a 4 x 4 contract. Anything more than that and you let him walk.

This is a nothing update. He isn't even saying that they are close, he's basically saying that they are negotiating.

He's even letting the "but it's fluid" door open in case it doesn't work.

Big meh tweet.
