I don’t think Cuylle is going to be denied a roster spot out of camp

Assuming our 3rd line has Goodrow-Chytil-Kravtsov on it, that leaves Carpenter, Rydahl, Reaves, Blais, Hunt and Gauthier.

Cuylle needs to beat out 4 of these 6 to make the team. That's a tough task for a 20-year old kid with only a handful of professional hockey games under his belt.

I hope this is the year that Gauthier and Hunt are waived for players like Cuylle and Othmann that can earn spots if they do, especially in Othmann’s case since he has to make the Rangers or juniors it is.

Even without Gauthier and Hunt, there's still Chytil, Blais, Kravtsov, Goodrow, Reaves, Brodzinski, Carpenter, Rydahl and Trivigno competing with them for the bottom 6.

I don’t assume Kravtsov for anything until we see what kind of shape he shows in camp plus I think that Cuylle will outplay everyone on that list besides Blais and Carpenter.

Gauthier will almost certainly be dealt or waived. Guy doesn't have a shot in hell of making this team.

It's different for Libor Hajek for a variety of reasons, but I don't see any avenue to Gauthier staying with this NHL roster, especially since we will likely only be carrying one spare forward.

Going into camp I think those are your 13 leading forwards for consideration. NYR will probably want to keep Carpenter for his ability to play center as a spare forward, so if there are spots to be had it's

Cuylle over Hunt

I don't see any way Drury doesn't insist Kravtsov make the team. They know he'll only gain value with NHL experience and if they demote him he will be gone forever.

Othmann finished with 1+2. He moved up to the first line end of the second period, stayed there. Showed chemistry with Bedard/MacTavish -- both of whom are supremely skilled. Cuylle with 1+1. Garand with the win. Had very very little work. 11-1 final. Sykora was positionally aware, but pretty much a non-factor. I know he's very young. It shows right now. Slovaks didn't really have the puck all night. So the whole team was really overwhelmed in every way. Will need to see Sykora against other competition to actually make a better evaluation.

This was one of my first times seeing Othmann play against his peers in a full game. His skating stride is for sure is a bit choppy at times. He will need to continue to work on that. That said, he has much more size than I had previously realized. Good vision. Has a nose for soft spots in the O zone. Seemed to have quite a bit of Hockey IQ. That may help him make up for his skating. But at times he defers and lets his linemates do the dirty work. (not all the time). A concern MIGHT be, will he have the pace/motor and practice to be consistently effective on the forecheck at the pro levels? Othmann strikes me as a top 6-9 player. He thinks the game differently than Cuylle. Far better O instincts. But Cullye is a better skater - tends to forecheck really well. Recovers pucks, makes simple plays and has decent vision. His game seems to fit more of a bottom 6 role. But they are both big boys. Both may be nice additions in the future.

i have nothing to say about Garand. I mean he could have been a shooter tutor and won tonight.

I feel the opposite
Too many other guys to sort out,
and few months in Hartford just makes him more ready
As with McD and Hags, for examples
In-house trade at the deadline.............. Cuylle called up in the early spring

Who is that color commentating? Could use some more fresh analogies in hockey broadcasts.
