He would be in juniors with talent his age and not in the AHL. him getting used to the smaller ice surface is not a bad thing, some junior team owns his rights.

I think once you get drafted, you should have to play in Juniors and not in Europe.
He would be in a foreign country away from everyone he knows. Did you leave your home at 18 and work in a foreign country where the culture and language are different?

That last sentence is just ridiculous. These are people, not robots. NHL teams can't force players to play in the CHL. The players and the teams they play for have rights too.

So why do some europeans willing to come over and some stay and never come over which is a waste of a draft pick?

Filip Chytil came over at a young age willing to play in the AHL while Kravtsov was not.

Filip Mesar was willing to go from Slovakia and then once drafted went to the OHL with no issues after he was drafted.

Other European players have no issues with playing in the OHL, WHL, QMJHL, College etc.

Because each person is different and has their own choices to make? Why did panarin continue to stay in Russia after her wasn’t drafted? Why did kreji stay in the Czech after his draft year? Who knows maybe family reasons, maybe he & the bruins thought it was better for his dev to play against adults? There’s not one clear path.

Jayden Grubbe had 1+3. He's up to 11-38-49 in 39 games.

Talyn Boyko stopped 29/30 for the win.

Maxim Barbashev picked up an assist.

Brennan Othmann had an assist.

Zak Karpa was back in the lineup for Harvard after missing several games.

Hugo Ollas stopped only 23/28 and lost. He pitched a shutout the other night but has otherwise had some rough performances lately. So has the other goalie Borgiel and Merrimack in general, though.

Victor Mancini had an assist, and has 4 in his last 5 games.

Noah Laba scored his eighth. He's up to 8-6-14 in 20 games.

Eric Ciccolini scored his third. Not really a prospect at this point but the guy has had awful injury luck the last two seasons so it's nice to see him back and getting on the score sheet.

You'd have to ask those players. Lots of European players (the majority) stay in Europe for at least a year, if not more, after being drafted.

The NHL has no business trying to force players to play in one league or another. They can make suggestions, and they do, but ultimately it's up to the player and the team he currently plays for (if he's under contract).

Really appreciate your updates, bud. Thank you.

Playing in his home country without a culture and language barrier doesn’t hurt. Playing against men is not without its merits either.

I get it. My concern is with the whole moving-across-the-world part for an 18 year old. If nothing else it’s just another thing for him to deal with. Let him have another year or two at home. There is no rush.

personally for me, if i was a prospect. I’d want to get a custom to the smaller ice so it would most likely be an easier transition once they make the pro game. I feel Sykoras energetic type of game would be suited for the smaller ice. Same with Adam Edstrom who looked good in preseason when he played on the smaller ice but back in Europe due to his contract. Hope he can be the next Boyle type for us down the road.

I'm still very hopeful he makes the team out of camp next year.

He's older than a lot of the recent batch of Rangers prospects.

I agree. said the same about Rydahl who is older and have not been called up to play in any games. I’d waive Blais and give Rydahl a chance if it was up to me

I think Scanlin is better defensively and his offense is growing as have several of us have noted. He has more offense than Ben Harper. I see him more as a Ryan Graves type player.

How would you describe Scanlin's physical play both in terms of his hitting and being aggressive & tough to play against?

Also - from what you've seen, do you think he could be developing into a player that would pair well alongside Braden Schneider in the somewhat near future?

(Thanks)

Scanlin is not a big hitter but he is physical when he needs to be and tough to play against. The team seems to be playing Scanlin and Giutarri together as the team's top defensive pair. Always out on the PK.

I think Scanlin could be a player that works well with Schneider. Schneider is a better player and skater. The issue with Scanlin is his skating.

How’s his skating compared to Harpur or Hajek?

Pretty sure the 20 year old rule doesnt apply to European players...think it's only for CHL drafted players. @Amazing Kreiderman could definitely clarify tho.
It's only for players drafted out of the CHL. I think that Sykora's contract with HK Nitra is done at the end of this year, but I'm not 100% sure. If it is done, then he can player wherever the Rangers want him to next season.

EDIT: See below.
Anisimov was a 2ed round pick and played in the AHL at 19. I don’t see why Sykora can’t do the same. I remember Anisimov being one of the few youngsters in the AHL that the Rangers had in Hartford.

Anisimov played in the AHL drafted out of Europe. so we are both correct.

Amazing Kreiderman spoke with Adam recently and Sykora is glad to be staying home. So I’m happy for him.
I can’t see if there is anyway of telling if this will have any affect on his development either way, for or against.

Anisimov was able to play in the AHL at 19 because he wasn't drafted out of the CHL and he wasn't under contract in the RSL at the time. The NHL has an agreement with the KHL to respect their contracts (and vice versa), and they have similar agreements with other leagues where they can't place players in other leagues outside the NHL until they reach a certain age.

Russian players are different because Russia doesn't participate in the IIHF transfer agreement, so things that apply to most other countries don't necessarily apply there. There has been an agreement directly between the NHL and KHL to respect each other's contracts (i.e., don't sign a guy under contract to the other league) but that's it.

Better skater than Harpur and more offensively gifted than Harpur. But Harpur knows his role and keeps it simple which is why he's been relatively effective as a bottom pair defenseman in the NHL.

Haven't seen Hajek play in such a long time. I think Hajek is a pretty good skater. Hajek probably is better but not by an enormous amount. Scanlin has kind of a clunky style. But plays a safe game and jumps in when there is an opportunity.

Rodolfo, gravey9 and nyr2k2 have seen Scanlin so I would encourage them to weigh in.

I forgot about that. Thanks.

He's still ineligible for the AHL until his contract runs out.
