Othmann had a goal and an assist. Bob had an assist.

Korczak has a goal early in the 3rd. Nothing for Grubbe yet through 1 period.
Ollas blanked Providence. A day after Providence smoked Merrimack 8-3. Ollas only played towards the end of last game as he subbed in. Berard and Chmelar were fine in this one. But the real story was Ollas. As his name fortells, he is HUGE in net. A really big dude. Plays a butterfly style and eats up a lot of the net. Was very calm and solid in this one. Seems to be a goalie that benefits from being good positionally. And aside from that, his mere size seems to eat up a lot of pucks. Makes a lot of players shoot wide. That said, I thought Merrimack played really well defensively in front of him. I don't know if he'll have the quick twitch or athleticism to play at higher levels. That's not a criticism, that's legit a question I can't answer because he wasn't terribly exposed. Still, a good game from him.

PS. Chmelar doesn't lose too many board battles.

PSS. It feels like -- and I may be wrong here -- but it feels like Berard's game was a bit more effective when he wasn't one of the go to offensive players on the team. He's still effective out there. And noticeable. And you really do see his skill at this level. He has good hands, decent wheels and better vision than most of his teammates. But his offensive strengths lie in his speed and fearlessly taking pucks to the net. He seems like the kind of guy who gets 10-20 goals in a bottom 6 role as opposed to a 30 goal scorer in a top 6 role.

Insightful post, thank you. The Ollas athleticism comment is typically the biggest question mark for 6’8 goalies, look at the way Ben Bishop’s career fizzled out largely due to his frame. It’s tough to stay nimble.

On Chmelar, enormous leap for him this year even if he isnt dominating at the NCAA level. His production is good and his physicality is great, and we bought time by sending him to Providence, he may yet make himself relevant if he can continue to grow there.

On Bedard, that is good news for us, a player that is MOST effective on a third or fourth line role is exactly what we need and who we drafted there. The goal with him (and Sykora) is to make our bottom 6 a true pain in the ass to play against. Glad to hear that the top line doesnt seem to be his strongsuit, role players are needed more than swiss army knives at the moment, especially with a coach that thinks Barclay Goodrow can be slotted into the top 6 at any time.

2 drafts ago NYR pivoted to prioritize CHL more than they recently had
seems to be working so far.
P/G ain't everything, but you want prospects to be contributors

Drury's first draft. A change in philosophy and voice was needed.

Gordie and Gorton for all the heat they took here had some nice drafts from the late 2000s to around 2014 which led to a lot of success albeit no superstar forwards. It's unfortunate that hitting on at least 1-2 of the 3-4 mistakes could have put them over the top for a championship.

Once Gorton took over way too many headcases were selected.

At the end of the day if these guys come in and contribute and help win a championship, it doesn't matter if they weren't internet darlings like a Nieves or Dorofoyev in Vegas.

Gorton's last draft in 2020 6 of the 9 players taken by the Rangers were CHL players including the first three--Lafreniere, Schneider and Cuylle. Garand and Rempe also got contracts and are playing in Hartford. The only one not signed was Vierling. The 2020 draft has the potential to be a monster draft for the Rangers. They already have two regulars in Lafreniere and Schneider and a few others are potentially NHL players in Cuylle, Garand, Berard, Rempe and Ollas. Almost every time you get three NHL regulars out of a draft you've struck gold.

The 2020 draft has the potential to really change the dynamic of the team more than any other in a long long time.

I think Gordie's biggest issue wasn't the picks themselves. It was the lack of picks from the Org trading them away repetitively.

He needed that. Only 1 point in his previous 3 games. Hopefully he can keep it going.

He leads his team in scoring, 8 points ahead of 2nd place, and 11 points behind the league leader.

Othmann plays tomorrow, then both play again on Friday.
He’s already surpassed his production from last year in 27 fewer games, and he’s not too far off from Othmann’s D+1 pace from last year. It’s even crazier when you factor in his slow start over the first 10 games or so.

He still needs to add more muscle to his lower frame, but he’s a workout freak and it should come with another summer or two of training.

PPG in the CHL against kids is not so exciting, many guys do that who don’t end up cracking the 4th line in the NHL…

Gorton seems to have a great eye for talent but he is not a great judge of character.

Pretty good write-ups for a 22nd ranked prospect pool. Its encouraging that we seem to have found some useful players long-term in the middle rounds, even if they aren't going to be gamebreakers. I also like Wheeler's articles far more than Pronman, who seems like he must be half asleep while watching games.

Don't know much about BMB or Chmelar but it's good to see their stock rising already from their draft year's. I know Barbie isnt on this list but gut feeling I think he is going to make it. Cuylle and Robertson are interesting cases, they are the closest to the NHL in theory but the upside on both seems somewhat limited. It will be tough for them to crack the Ranger lineup imo in the next few years, especially if Robertson is developing as slowly in HFD as the reports say. Both guys are prospects that could be moved in lieu of draft picks to a bottom feeder who can give them rope to succeed at the NHL level.

I wish Jones could win a physical battle in the NHL, there is some Sam Girard upside there (even though his bad playoffs seem to have destoryed his confidence in COL) but I still dont think he reaches it here with no PP time. He'll get us a better player than we think at the deadline
