Spoke to Adam Sýkora today and he said he's going back to HK Nitra, for what it's worth. Looks like the plan of him going to the WHL is off the table for now.
Thanks for the update! Kinda relieved as I think him playing against men for this + one or two more seasons after this is likely a good route for him. I would like him to slow cook for as long as possible as opposed to the Junior route where he may end up in the AHL sooner than he might be ready for.

I'm of the belief that his offensive skillset may become more impactful as he matures and gains more strength. To me, right now, his frame and strength get the in way of the kind of game he plays. once he's physically matured a bit more, i think his game will translate well. Just hope he doesn't get stuck in the AHL like Ryan Bourque whose game, esp at the WJCs I absolutely adored.

I just hope Berard does not end up like Bourque. It is a shame Bourque never became an NHL player. I hope Sykora is not the next Robin Kovacs

That sucks. Stuck playing on a garbage team and his offensive skills barely getting developed. Oh well, hopefully next season.

Things can change, but I don’t see a path for Korczak to be an NHL player. Might not even be an AHL player.
I wouldn't read too much into the fact that he didn't stick in the AHL. He was one of the oldest players in his draft class, which was why he was eligible to play in the AHL this year, but he's still only in his D+2 season. Most kids drafted out of the CHL are still playing in the CHL in their D+2 season.

Korczak has been killing it since returning to the WHL, though how much of his success is from playing with Yager and Firkus, I can't say. Let's see where he's at a year from now.

Sorry, i don't get what possible genuine basis there is, to conclude this,
re a kid who just turned 20 in late September.
He's had great success in W last season, and this.
Not saying he's a sure thing.

Because he is a smaller player that doesn’t have any one outstanding trait that gives him a clear path to the NHL. He doesn’t have blazing speed or a tremendous shot. He isn’t going to play a heavy game as a bottom 6 guy. If he was small but had blazing speed or an all-world shot, he’d have a better chance. He is a solid playmaker in juniors. That’s not going to be enough for top 6 NHL. Anything can happen, but players like him far more often than not don’t make it.

Understood. Personally i think you're trying too hard to build a premature conclusion
Maybe 100 guys will play in NHL games this season, who mighta seemed to match that profile at some point.
And many many guys who mighta had a seeming likely path/profile who fail.
Me, i always give them extended benefit of the doubt, into their 2nd/3rd contracts. Every career arc is different.

I would rather be wrong. The Rangers need depth at C badly. If Korczak had a scrappy game like Trochek, there’s a better chance. Again, things can change, but as of now, he is listed at 5’11, 170lbs, and is doing really well, but not exactly setting records, as a 20 year old against younger players.
I would rather be wrong, and could very well be, but I think the odds are stacked against him. I would feel better if he had outstanding speed. He isn’t slow by any standard, but being small without the ability to separate is a big obstacle.
Only time is going to tell, though.

you undertsand that (a) he has a signed ELC,
(b) he's excelling at WHL level, again
Isn't what we ask of these guys is to excel?
but, sometimes, when fans feel like it, they decide to move the goal posts?

He should have been ready for Hartford. What overrage juniors prospect have had a good NHL career besides Ryan Callahan along with a few others. Most of these types usually end up ECHL AHL tweeners if that.

He’s not an overager. He was just born early in his draft class so he was AHL eligible.

He turned 20 in September. This is his overage season.

I definitely wouldn't write him off, as he does have a lot of skill. Still, I was pretty underwhelmed by him last season as I often posted here. I don't see any standout skills with him, nothing that will really carry him. I expected he'd play this year in the ECHL or get sent back for the OA year. There's still time for him, though. As @cwede said, everyone has a different career arc. I'm just not particularly excited about him.

Was he not drafted in his first eligible year? I thought your third eligibble year was still not overage.
Im not looking to argue, genuine question.

He was like a week short of being 18 in time for the 2020 draft--you have to be 18 by September 15 of the draft year and his birthday is September 23. So he didn't become eligible until the 2021 draft, when he was just a week or so short of being 19.

But the CHL is different, it's basically just the year you were born and the year of the season. If you were born in 2000, for the 2020 season you were considered 20. Korczak is a 2002 birthday so for this 2022 season he is considered a 20-year-old player and overage.

Okay. I looked it up, you have to turn 18 by Sept 15 of the draft year, so he has a very early bday for his draft class. 21 was his first eligible draft And he was drafted. He is in his D+2, I didnt think that was overage. Maybe Junior Leagues have different cutoff dates? I’m f***ing confused! Hahaha.

Okay. So it’s different cutoffs. Thank you!

...With his two goals tonight, Barbashev has now scored in 8 straight games and has 10 goals in that stretch.
Lately w StL struggling, and ROR, Tarasenko hurt, there are rumblings of big brother possibly available ...

Kempf scored his first goal of the season and first point since November 11.

I've haven't been able to watch as much due to work but I gotten to see him twice in person in the last week and I was pretty disappointed.

His defense seemed fine but he's not dominating that end and he's been taken off of PK.

He seemed extremely skittish with the puck and his puck moving seems like it's regressed.

Not sure what to take from it but as the team seems to be performing better, maybe he can take a step up.
