So Sabourin spears in the groin Simoneau then jumps Martel. Anthony Marcotte is saying word is spreading around the league that you can just walk over the Rocket in impunity.

Saulnier was traded to Belleville after an ECHL stint so no more tough guys on the team. Some weird stuff is going on in Laval, Saulnier has 1g 5a in 6 games with Belleville (lucky streak probably but still the guy was considered not good enough for Laval).

At this point clearly sending talented prospects to Laval would be risky, especially Slaf that would be a huge target.

Houle not playing Saulnier was such a dumb move. We clearly missed toughness last year, they get him a tough guy and he doesn't play him.

Anyone know if Simoneau and/or Richard are playing center in Laval?

Ylonen, Barron, Pitlick, and RHP on the ice for the pp goal. 4 young players that at one point were close to the NHL...
They are all far to keep the pace PPG+ player. If they want to become regular player in the NHL, they need to prove they are able to maintain the PPG in the AHL. I would say right now, Xavier Sinomeau is intriguing. Only 21 years old. Anthony Richard is the typical fringe 4th liner NHL/1st liner AHL. Justin Barron is still young, will see.
Ylonen, Norlinder, it’s been a long time ago I lost hope. When players arent showing something promising on papers, they rarely become top notch player

A bit surprised at how bad Laval is this year?
They did lose some decent vets but the D group looks strong and with Richard and Simoneau added to the offense you would think they would be at least as competitive as last year.

Question- why has Laval regressed so much and why are there rarely any AHL prospects that pan put?

Team defence, a lack of size, coaching and playing undisciplined hockey. The past few games, they've taken so many stupid penalties and the penalty killing is just horrible. The one where they allowed 5 PP goals really did it for me.

Headscratcher...........as we know though, having the wrong coach can do harm, real harm.
Is that the case? Thinking a couple of posters here, watch the team a fair amount.......therein lies our answer?

No idea why they signed so many players. I don't think it's been helpful, and vets like Green probably weren't happy about sitting.

Didn't like Rockets off-season at all.
Probably because they used so many last season (over 40 from what I remember). They had a lots of injuries the last few years (and long terms ones in some cases). They don't have that many this year.

Never liked the coach. It's been 1.5 years since the Bouchard firing. About the time it takes for old coach system to be completely weeded out and replaced with new coach system.

New coach sucks.
Hughes knows Houle going back 30+ years and used to coach him in the West Island summer leagues in the early 90s. Houle is part of the “HuGo club”

Houle is a dinosaur coach trying to implement MSL's hockey and he's terrible at running a bench.

All aspect of Defense are awful. But then the Habs defense is also awful. Terrible at shot suppression.

Offensively it's not that bad thought, since Simoneau, RHP, Ylonen and Barron are doing well.

People keep talking about Houle and I'm sure he's part of the problem but let's be honest, the reason why the team sucks is because of the lack of talent on the team. All the good players are already in Montréal, in a normal year they would've had Slaflovsky, Guhle, Harris and Xhekaj having the time of their life but circumstances made it otherwise.

Ylonen, RHP, Mysak and Richard are fine but they're not top players.

Honestly?
I think a big reason other than the bad coach obviously lol, is the fact Guhle, Xhekaj, Slafkovsky and Harris all have NOT played in Laval this year when a good number of people expected 1, 2, 3 or even all 4 to either start the season there or spend some time there at all
But that just didnt happen lol

So because a number of kids have seemingly all "graduated" in one shot, the farm system itself takes a shot lol

What’s wrong with Laval is the Habs didn‘t send Slafkovsky down there. /s

Honestly, not liking the coaching. Marginal veteran AHLers are getting far too much rope at the expense of development of our remaining prospects. Houle said it himself in an early season interview on The Press Zone podcast that winning is prioritized over development. Granted, he alluded winning and developing go hand in hand, which I sort of agree… you don’t want to develop in a loser culture but I guess he didn‘t account for the possibility of actually LOSING.

Getting back to Slaf, what’s happening in Laval is exactly why I prefer he stays with the big club.
