Sorry, I didn't word my post very well.

I was talking about the Avs defensemen scoring 5v5.
Ahhh... forwards not scoring typically has a much higher impact on defensemen's production. Just due to the position, they are reliant on the forwards actually producing.

Now part of that is just Makar too... he shot nearly 12% last year and flirted with 13 for a long time. Most defensemen don't maintain that high of shooting percentage and Makar in any other season hasn't done that either. He's in the 9s now which is reasonable for him (had a 9.9 and 7.7 seasons prior).

If we get ROR, this team is built incredibly well/tailored for playoff hockey. I still think we’d need another goal scorer for the middle 6 though.

Get St Louis to eat 50% of his last year and the Avs would still have over 2 million to bring in a middle six winger (assuming they LTIR EJ).

The biggest issue with ROR, aside from the injury concerns, the slowness, the appearance of regression, history with the Avs, etc, is the fact that he’s a pure rental again, and not a solution.

Because let’s face it, we know the Avs aren’t going to meet his contract demands.

Yeah if were spending a 1st may as well spend extra to add someone for a few years. If we get ROR we’re either going to re sign him(puke) or have to trade next years 1st+ most likely to fill the spot.

Wouldn’t this make more sense to have happen tomorrow instead of today for cap banking purposes? Although I guess they need a goalie for practice.

I think if they're practicing with the team they have to be on the NHL roster right?
Yes. And the Eagles are on the road. So I guess that’s why. Guess they can’t tell the Eagles to just leave those two at home while they pay them both AHL salaries for a few days before calling them up on game day.

I guess if they do actually LTIR EJ, the need to be religious with banking space is less critical.

Nope. Lehkonen scored 8 goals including two series clinching. Burakovsky scored at the same rate as Andrew cogliano
This willful ignorance is hilarious. Look at their careers. Lehkonen scores at a 0.49PPG clip in the playoffs, Burakovsky scores at 0.51.

Burakovsky scored 0.67PPG in the postseason and Lehkonen scored 0.70 for us. One guy's top 4 linemates were Kadri, Landeskog, Rantanen and MacKinnon (split time almost equally between the four). The other guy spent almost the entire playoffs with Compher and Aube-Kubel.

So yeah, he actually is.

Agreed. The Avs have very very little draft capital that isn’t 1st rounders.

So if you’re gonna spend 1sts and prospects, just go fix it. Unless the rental is dirt cheap.

My goodness... people on this Lehky/Burkie thing. They are simply different types of players. Lehky is a guy who can play all around the ice and contribute up and down the lineup. He's not going to produce excellent numbers 5v5 simply because he isn't that talented and he's not a guy who can exceed numbers typically (typically comes under). Finishing is a skill and a very underrated one. One that Burkie possesses. He may not have the great underlying all the time, but he's going to finish at an elite rate.

What is needed on a team is going to vary based on what a team is struggling with. The Avs last year, needed more solid play all around the ice... they were already showing some cracks 5v5, but they clearly didn't need any finishing talent. They had plenty of that through the lineup. Today, the cracks 5v5 have widened, but worse than that the finishing ability of this team has cratered. It really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone here... the Avs are just not that talented up front. There are not many guys who can reliably beat a goalie or break down a defense on their own on this roster. Losing two guys who could do that, one being Burkie, makes it difficult for this team to finish at a rate that surpasses their underlying.

This isn't that Lehky or Burkie are better or worse than each other... it is more about what a team needs at different points in time. The Avs clearly need some players who can put the puck in the net 5v5. Lehky just isn't that guy.

Okay but did they lead the avs to a finals berth and ultimately the cup?
Yeah that OT winner in the cup finals did indeed help lead them to the cup.

Not to mention being arguably Washington’s most clutch player on their cup.

People hate streaky players because they usually bring their positive attributes at unpredictable times. Burky was indeed streaky but has proven time and time again he shows up when it matters. That’s the streaky player I want.

It’s moot anyway. The decision at wing had zero to do with Arturri Lehkonen. It came down to Burakovsky and Nichushkin and it was a no brainer, even if Nuke may not look great right now.
