It’s very possible to get another 2nd or two and then trade up. That’s more why I had in mind.
I would have thought so too if you asked me 2 months ago, but after seeing the lack of movement in last year's 1st round -- when we knew there was so much variation in the rankings among the different teams -- I'm not so sure that trading up more than a few spots at any given position is really very likely.
BUF for example, in their recently released inside-the-draft coverage, showed that they tried to package pick #28 + 39 to 7 different teams in the late teens & early 20's and couldn't find a trade partner. The only straight pick trade came with the San Jose/Geekie trade.
But while I'm normally an advocate of quality over quantity, I'm not so sure I'd want to package 3 2nd rounders (if we had that many) to move up into the late teens or early 20's. Sure, if we had the insane number of picks in '23 as we had in '22, I'd be more inclined to make an aggressive trade like that.
But if we only have 2 or 3 second rounders, it may be best to just take the BPA at those spots, or maybe use the 3rd rounders to move higher into the 2nd. But I think beyond that would just be too cost prohibitive or won't be able to find trade partners for that kind of move to get higher into the 1st round.
