They have 10 mil in Cap space this summer.
Bennett for Krug only adds 2.1 mil to their cap and they don't have any major RFA's to lock up. Plus they have Denisenko who should be ready for a full time spot.
They can afford it if they want to.
git 'er dun!!

Sam Bennett is my top trade choice as well, in terms of what’s realistic.
Sam Bennett would be great as a 2B to Schenn's 2A

Thomas-Schenn-Bennett would be solid, maybe not a contending center group, is definitely a good group to use while moving towards being a contending group. Especially when both Schenn and Bennett can play the wing as well.

Yeah, plus Bennett is pretty good defensively and plays an all-around game. Think he’d be a nice complement to our lineup.

Blues need to add a guy like that up front, a shut-down type of d-man on the back end, and fire Van Ryn and MacTavish.

Hopefully that can be the start of at least giving us a competent defensive system.

With that point, the Blues move ahead of the Caps (tiebreaker) to 11th worst record.

This team(and the tuna boat) keep firing broadsides into the going for Bedard ship.

I've pretty much given up any hope of getting Bedard.
Right now, I'm focused on getting one of Smith, Barlow, Moore or Dvorsky. But if we don't stop all of this "winning" nonsense even that might be a stretch.
We're really at the point where we need to lose out.

Getting rid of Krug in a Bennett trade would make it all worth it regardless of if Bennett does anything wearing the note. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I really like Bennett too, especially since he can shift from wing to center. Do it.

Yep, Bennett is someone I wanted from when he was in Calgary. He's one of those guys that you can plug almost anywhere in the lineup and he can have a positive impact, but if you are a team with cap issues, that could be a more expensive luxury than it's worth. If he can basically be a discount Schenn for us, that would be really nice to have.

Wonder if one of Binny or Greiss is banged up?

Regardless, hopefully Zherenko gets into a game. Would be a nice little reward for a job well done in his first season in N.A.

Is there any (emergency condition) rule specific reason the Blues aren't allowed to call up Hofer? Or did they just opt for Zherenko because they wanted Hofer to help the Thunderbirds with their playoffpush?

Perhaps not the best idea to give yourself a financial incentive to overwork your starter…

That said, hopefully Hofer provides Binny with more of a challenge for starts than Greiss did this season.
I think if they felt that Greiss deserved it they would have gladly given him the starts to get the $250k. But he hasn't been good. Just because Binny has been up and down (and team sucks) doesn't change that.

Agreed. Which is what my 2nd paragraph is referring to.

But I think it’s also clear that Binny shouldn’t be a workhorse type of starter. Greiss simply wasn’t good enough competition though. I’m hoping to see Binny get around 50 starts next season with Hofer around 30. Hopefully Binny can be more consistent with a little lighter load. Otherwise, Hofer may end up with more than 30ish starts…
