A middle 6 center you say…
The difference with Armstrong's approach: He is still doing a rebuild, assembling a roster where all the key players are in the same prime age window. He'll bring in guys one at a time and keep filling holes. He'll supplement with quality rookies and ELC players. But he is not trying to make the team worse to lose games to improve the quality of the draft picks. He is more interested in preserving/building a culture of playing the right way, competitiveness and playing to win. Some good quotes from the Army presser, so I'm sure it's worth a full listen later. Basically puts everyone at ease for his plan. He likes that we have 8 of our 9 top 9 guys for next season, Thomas, Buch, Kyrou, Schenn, Saad, Kapanen, Vrana, and hopefully Neighbours as the 8th. He'll go and find the 9th. He doesn't want to give term to free agents with where we are currently at, wants more guys with 1 year left to prove to the organization what their value is and then they can make a decision if they are the right fit. Our 1st was never in play in trade talks. Next 12-24 months are about building foundation.
So, it's definitely not an aggressive re-tool, not quite a tear down rebuild either. Slowly add guys that have the potential to be long term fits. Make a big move if it makes sense. And let the young guys develop and come up when ready.
Locking up most of the forwards now is big for me. Lets Army focus on the defense and even coaching staff.
I think the chances to re-sign Barbashev are close to zero. I liked Acciari, but I'm not sure the Blues have a very high chance of signing him either. I think he'll want longer term than what Armstrong is looking to give out at that role. O'Reilly, I actually think there is a better than 50% chance he wears the Bluenote again. We still have a chance to resign ROR, Acciarri and Barbie. That line of barbie, Acciarri and Blais was pretty damn awesome.
Would have to move out a d-man or two to be able to afford them.We still have a chance to resign ROR, Acciarri and Barbie. That line of barbie, Acciarri and Blais was pretty damn awesome.
I was just coming to say that anybody that hadn't watched it yet should give it the 10 minutes of their time. Lot of GM speak in there but it’s definitely a good listen.Watching the DA interview with Strickland has me feeling a lot better than before
What makes you think ROR will come back? Why would he want to be part of a rebuild/retool if he could go to somewhere like Carolina or Edmonton that are much closer to competing? I’d love to have him back on a reasonable deal, but I just don’t see it as particularly likely, especially with the experience Colorado had with him on his last contract negotiations. The difference with Armstrong's approach: He is still doing a rebuild, assembling a roster where all the key players are in the same prime age window. I think this is the hole that we've seen some teams fall into. They truly are moving pieces beyond what they need to to rebuild the roster. They're trying to target a 1st overall talent to build around that nucleus. With Armstrong, I think he'd love a player like that, but the cost of the tank is too high to pay. You can destroy the culture a quality pro hockey team needs to be successful. And its much harder to create that than many people realize.
I'll be surprised if he doesn't move Krug and probably also Parayko this offseason. Moving some long-term commitments to create room for younger rising players in the Top 4 seems like the next obvious step.

More likely they play 4 lefties and 2 righties if they don‘t make trade.I don't see Tucker supplanting any of Scandella, Leddy or Krug when fully healthy on our blue line next season. Moving one of the aforementioned LD in the offseason paves the way for him to challenge for 2/3 LD mins depending on who gets moved. Tucker will require waivers next year and I don't believe he'll clear them without being snapped up.
Perunovich is also someone competing for a roster spot, he's waiver exempt next season and likely doesn't get much NHL action unless Krug is moved, due to the 4 NHL caliber LD currently on our roster. Perunovich has 26/63 NHL games played towards losing his waiver exempt status or 1 more waiver exempt season from what I can see.
The current LD blue line looks set for next year with Tucker and Perunovich looking in from the outside - I'd genuinely love to see Krug moved around the 2023 draft to make room for Tucker permanently. Let Perunovich play the majority of the 2023-24 season in the AHL and move Scandella as a 2024 deadline piece for a 3rd-5th round pick to make room for Perunovich to join the team in a full-time capacity post deadline.
Pettersson yes, but hell no to Miller.Just watch. Army is gonna pull a fast one and get Elias Pettersson or JT Miller out of Vancouver this summer.
Not without moving one of the D men.Just watch. Army is gonna pull a fast one and get Elias Pettersson or JT Miller out of Vancouver this summer.
While I would love that, can’t see rags doing it. Think lindgren is guy they deal to clear space. Not without moving one of the D men.
I'll make a different prediction: Army's going to send the Rag's their 1st round pick back for Filip Chytil.
That was a pretty good interview by Army. Based on what was said, I don’t think there was much of any conversations about Colt being traded. He sounded a little frustrated by it.
I thought that too. But then I thought maybe he was frustrated it leaked.
I found it a little funny he was talking to a guy who leaks these type of things. Although I can't remember if he mentioned Parayko moving.
He doesn’t like his business out there like that. we all know he wants to move out some longterm money on d and likely will this summer. Note he never specifically said that he had no discussion on trading Parayko. He talked in general about how much of what is said is bs.I thought that too. But then I thought maybe he was frustrated it leaked.

Lol, yeah, I had to laugh at the irony of Army complaining to Strick about people on Twitter making things up.I thought that too. But then I thought maybe he was frustrated it leaked.

When he’s talking about the ‘next decade’ I kind of think all the top 4 will cycle out before too many years. In what order probably has a lot to do with the available returns and which young guys are obtainable. The way people have interchangeably talked about moving Krug and Parayko is strange to me. It has come from an energy of wanting to "see something major happen with the defense" rather than what specifically the result would be. Parayko is a part of the solution player and Krug is a part of the problem player. Very different scenarios
Very much so. 100% agreed. The way people have interchangeably talked about moving Krug and Parayko is strange to me.
