Vegas' best prospect is probably Cormier, a smallish near-ready 20-yo offensive minded LHD. Maybe a Krug replacement?

Reading up on Vegas prospects, my guess is Zach Dean. He's described as hard working by several scouting reports. 6 ft 20year old play making C with good speed and stick handling who is currently in the Q.
Dean’s a former late 1st rounder that if the 2021 draft was redrafted today, I’d expect to go a bit higher (somewhere in the 20s). I’d be ok with him or a couple other prospects. Dean for example would be 2 years farther along the development curve than any 2023 pick. He projects as a guy that projects as a quality 3rd liner. Someone that brings a good combo of skill and grit/intangibles. Someone that can play up and down your lineup. So…someone that should be a future Barbashev type.

I like Cormier’s skill but not his size. But he’d be worth Barby value-wise.

Seems accurate.

Cardinals too embarrassed to even be in the pic.

Nailed it. Can I have my own "Always right" prediction thread now? I have 1 correct prediction which is one more than the other guy.

We should all have our own threads. And no one else is allowed to post there.

Every once in while on some of these ancient necro threads, I'll just be reading along, and see a post and think, "That's spot on! And well articulated." Then I notice its my own post.

That takes the Law of Mirrors to a whole new level.

I got my own thread because people such as you constantly derailed every thread on the board. That is why EastonBlue made that thread.

Also I correctly predicted the ryan miller trade with EVERY piece involved in it 2-3 weeks before it even happened. nothing anyone does will ever top that at all.

Actually, spending two months here before that trade predicting precisely what results would follow based on Miller's overwhelming dataset while facing some of the most unified and belligerent personalized forum headwinds tops it

After watching Alexandrov in many games this season, it is clear that the weakest aspect to his game is faceoffs. He needs to work on that, so he can play up with Jake and/or Dean depending on where Dean slots. Zach may wind up a winger.

One question is who is going to be the top six forward the Blues add.

The offer for Meier is evidence that Armstrong wants to bring in a significant top six forward before the beginning of next season. Then they'd have that player plus 89 + 18 + 25 + 10 + 20 in the top six. Snuggy Bear and Bolduc more expected to be getting NHL minutes by 24-25.

I have to believe if Dylan Larkin goes to UFA that Armstrong would put in a bid.

One ping pong ball can change (or intensify) the plans a bit and that will be known on May 10.

Bedard-Larkin-Snuggles
Buchnevich-Thomas-Kyrou
Saad-Schenn-Kapanen
Blais-Alexandrov-Toropchenko

Still have Neighbours/Bolduc/two late firsts in 2023 to try to pry a top pairing defenseman somewhere

Now that the main deadline pieces have all been moved, Army has done a very good job to get the prices that he wanted on everyone. We've added 5 picks in the 1st 3 rounds of the next 2 drafts, and a recent 1st in Dean that is probably somewhere between Neighbours and Alexandrov.

With the defense market, sounds like there is a lot of guys on the market, so we might not see our guys move, but would really like if Army makes a move to at least bring someone in. Could someone like Peeke be had? If we can do much at trading away a defender, then see if we can add someone that is youngish and cheapish to help carry some of the defensive load. I'll be curious if Army is able to make any sort of move for a player that fits Thomas/Kyrou age group.

And to add to this, will Army want simply the best possible top 6 guy, or was he specifically interested and targeting more of a power-forward/physical type in Meier, something we are probably lacking. Tkachuk and Meier certainly fit that bill, but they were also the best forwards available over the summer and at this deadline, so that could also be why they were targeted.

I do think we'll be a team that reaches out to Larkin. And while teams in rebuilding phases might struggle to get some guys without overpaying, I do think having some young core pieces in place, and Army at the top will give us credibility in the eyes of agents that we aren't simply a rebuilding team where you aren't going to compete in the playoffs for the length of their contract.

You say this based on what? I would love another top line center, but most projections have dean as at least 3rd line center.
Based on a couple write-ups I've read today. It's been a whirlwind of a day, but I'm sure I can dig up those articles, if you really want to see them. But if I can find them, so can you.

Could be that the authors of those pieces have no clue. IDK, but it made sense.

I also don't really like to project 3rd/4th line centers, simply because a lot depends on their faceoffs, and that's hard for us to project. Dean and Alexandrov give us 2 decent shots at developing a 3rd/4th line center, and with all the 1st/2nd/3rd round picks, I'm sure we'll have a couple more. I think we should get another top 6 center at the top of this draft.

And then for the future, I'm sure some sort of youngish vet or even older vet will be brought in if needed depending on where we are with the rebuild. Once we get to pushing for the playoffs, then we could definitely add a guy like we did with Bozak to anchor a 3rd line.

Honestly the D corps is going to be so hard to fix, maybe we just go the other way and build a forward group so good that we can get by with a below-average defensive group. If we can add a strong 2C somewhere along the line I think we're on the way to being able to put together 3 really good lines in a few years.

Nobody wins anything in the Stanley Cup playoffs with a below average defensive group.

I cannot stress how important Alexandrov is potentially going to be for the Blues.

He's a gamer and we're getting him for cheap when he is at his most virile and motivated to stick in the NHL.

He's got IT.

Get better at being a true centerman, Niki, and you will cash in big time later.

Would love to add a stud defenseman but that's not going to be easy to accomplish. Right now I'm more concerned with just putting together a winning roster.
