Vegas was also in a position that entirely lacked leverage and everyone knew it. If Max was on the market from another team, I bet the return would have been better.
Wasn't Vegas over the cap and they had to get rid of him? Plus he had that injury that took him out the first part of the season

The defense on this team is beyond atrocious. Everyone seems to likes Berube but a better coach would tighten up the D. I love run and gun wide open hockey but someone has to play D besides the goalie. Army will probably never do it but Hitchcock or someone of that ilk needs to be hired to fix this team's D mindset no matter who the personal is next year and beyond.

Honestly, that feels much more like a roster construction problem then a coaching problem. We have 10 million per year lined up on two defensemen who are not good in there own zone in Krug and Leddy, and our formerly elite defensive star in Parayko’s play has been in decline for a while. I’m also not sure how many of our top 9 forwards I would consider a plus in the defensive zone, but it’s not a high total anymore. Blaming that all on coaching just feels odd to me.

You have to watch what mistakes they're making. Once in the defense zone players look confused and are making the same mistakes repeatedly. Defensemen double teaming the same player and leaving the slot open for example. It's not just the dmen either, forwards are losing their man consistently and don't know what to do. This is a coaching problem. The coaches have either made it far to complicated with what they want or they're getting contradicting voices on what to do. The other possibility is that it's just an absolute shit game plan but the problem is effecting all players in the Dzone and not just the Dmen.

Blues are now tied for 9th worst in the league with the Flyers. Ottawa is 2 points behind us but has played 2 less games. Montreal is 5 points behind us with 1a game in hand, and Vancouver is 6 points behind with a game in hand

SURELY the Canucks won’t pass us. Unless maybe new coach lights a fire under them I guess.

Tied for 8th in point percentage. I hope Ottawa, Philly, and definitely Vancouver go on a winning streak soon.

In points percentage we're sitting at 9th, which gives us a 5% chance to pick #1. It also seems to be kind of the sweet spot. Picking at #9 over #11 gives you about a 67% better chance at winning the lottery. To increased our chances by that much again we'd have to finish with the #5 pick.

Really good day for Blues draft hopes. Alone in 8th but have some solidifying to do. Again I don't see any way they catch the bottom five. Catching either or both of Vancouver and Montreal both sitting at -6 with the Blues -1 is conceivable with the right outcomes, but most important is they stay under the teams they got under yesterday.

Vancouver could potentially go on a heater, with a new coach in place. I know I'll be rooting for them.

The Blues’ schedule this year is so bizarre. First they only play like three games in the first two weeks of the season, then we jam a month full of back to backs, 3 in 4, and 4 in 6s, and now play today and then not again until next Saturday while many teams play three times in that span. Feels like the distribution could’ve been a bit more even.

EDIT:Maybe I should’ve read the thread before posting….

Unless we get a young NHL talent at the trade deadline, I'm not sure how engaged I'll be with the team down the stretch. Not really looking foward to watching a group with half the guys not belonging in the league. Guys like Brown, Leivo, Pitlick, Walker don't really have any business being on a decent roster. And nothing personally against them, I hope Walker returns to AHL star next season and Brown just goes away. If Brown wasn't tall, he wouldn't have a spot.

Hopefully if we suck next year, we can at least watch some young and exciting kids like Bolduc and Snuggs.

The only exciting thing about those forwards taking up so many rosters spots is that it makes it seem much more likely Bolduc and Snuggerud will be in the lineup next year.

This team has a lot of problems but I hope after the break I can see individual progress from some of the younger players. I want to see Thomas drive the net more when he has space and shoot the puck. I want to see Kyrou simplify his game at times because I think he does too much and turns over the puck while trying some fancy stuff. I like what I'm seeing from Neighbors and Alexandrov so I hope they can continue to get minutes. I hope Tucker can get more games. Hopefully Perunovich can get healthy and stay healthy. That's all I want from him. We are going to get a high draft pick but I just want to see the kids play and have some hope for next year

Thomas and Kyrou play an extremely high variance game. They attempt fancy plays in ways that if they do not work, it's an immediate defensive emergency. The Blues are never winning anything with that, they don't have the personnel to shut down emergencies. These two guys have to be the highly paid second line to some elite ELC players or they have to completely change the high variance possession game. They are so easy for opponents to defend. Pressure them, they will force a pass where it shouldn't go.

This is unfortunately accurate for Kyrou. Not Thomas though, he generally handles pressure extremely well I think.
