Their’s our #1LHD, boys!

:naughty::thumbu:

Would be kinda funny in a Binnington-sorta way, to stumble into a starter that quietly developed in the minors and just kept waiting for a chance; then grabs the job and never let’s go. Would that be a credit to Army and the development team, or a sign that they can’t spot talent until it slaps them in the head? I’d tend to think the former, but I’m sure we’d hear the opposite too; especially if Rosen really can be a full-time, 20+ minute per night top-4 D. Though, that remains to be seen, and he may ultimately become nothing more than a part-time guy in St. Louis. Long-term, there are a whole lot of guys ahead of him…

I don't think it says much about Armstrong and the front office either way. Plenty of teams had a chance to sign Rosen but there is likely a reason he's struggled to stay in the NHL for long. That being said, some guys just need a chance and like Binnington he may have needed more time to become an NHL caliber player.

I certainly wouldn't expect him to be a 20-minute guy but it's nice to see him contributing. There is nothing remarkable about his game that jumps out but he'll get an extended chance to prove himself.

Too bad he turns 29 y/o in about a month or so.

So we’re basically telling Greiss to f*** off? Ok then…
He turns 37 later this month and is posting a .903 through 11 games played at about the midway point. He was brought in as the backup specifically because we didn't want to commit multiple years to a veteran who was already in our organization.

He's a 14 year NHL veteran. I think he knew that the writing was on the wall that he would either not be here next year or at the very least would have to battle a prospect in camp.

Any goalie we signed this season, was here to be a placeholder until Hofer came up next year. So we'll thank him for his time and give him a good recommendation to any GM looking to sign him.

I just figured we’d trade the guy before telling him he has no future here. But he can play for his next deal elsewhere.
Just a questionable take. Hofer was going to be an RFA who we developed and was on track to compete for the backup role next year. Greiss signed a one year deal and probably knew that would be the case. Oh Hofer is also the #1 on our AHL team and has been extremely good. Geez these negative Blues fans are something else

Greiss is not an upgrade over Hofer at this point, and hopefully, we can get a trade chip for him, even if it's a late round pick.
You know who is a upgrade over both of them? Chuckie Sideburns. And Army let him go because he did not want to give him multiple years. Funny thing is he could have signed Chuckie to a 2 or 3 year deal and aslong as it did not have a NTC it would be a easily moveable contract that could yield assets seeing as how good of a goaltender and teammate he is.

Oh well, we don't need a goalie who wins #1 star of the week or anything. We have Greiss, Hoefer and Binner afterall.

FIRE ARMSTRONG.

Not being negative, and I realized Greiss was always a one-year stop-gap…which is why Lindgren wasn’t brought back. It still seems unconventional to basically dump your back-up in advance of dumping your back-up. Guess it could help the tank to let your 2G know there’s no upside (here) in playing hard; but I’m sure he’ll be a pro and play his best in hopes of staying in the league. It’s still odd to see it play out as it has if you ask me, even if the events are unsurprising.

I'm not understanding the issue with the Blues signing their top goaltending prospect to a two year extention.

I would guess that Lindgren felt he could get more than a 1-year deal elsewhere, which he did, and the Blues didn't want anyone for longer than 1 year due to Hofer being close to ready. Makes a lot of sense why they signed Greiss, but I would have expected this extension to take place closer to the offseason The timing is a bit strange, but I guess they have seen enough from Hofer to basically give him the job right now.

What exactly would be the point of waiting until later when the deal could be done today at league minimum? Pretty sure it was around this time last year that the Blues signed Toropchenko to an extension as well.

All this deal does is it makes sure Hofer is getting paid at least 750k the next two years whether he is in the NHL or AHL. Hes still Waiver exempt until 24-25 (or until he plays 75 games). So again. I see no reason we would be having an issue with this.
