I'm going to give a player like ROR a decent amount of rope, more than a quarter season. At least half a season. One of our fears was that he'd want a bigger contract than the Blues would offer. I think Armstrong will tell him when they meet in January that there's 3C money, medium term and the captaincy on the table and ROR will understand that's the offer and mull it as the season plays out.
I mean he wasn't great for large parts of last season either, right? But in the playoffs he was still Ryan O'Reilly.

The difference was at least last season, he was Selke caliber for the entire year, offense was just down a bit because of an even larger defensive deployment, and Perron had a slow spurt as well. This year, he was just completely not good, so we'll see how he finishes.

I think ROR is moved later this month, along with Tarasenko. Mikkola will also be moved closer to the deadline along with Barbashev.

There is something off with this team. And to me this was the all in year. Since doesn’t look like a wise move, he will sell both like he did with Shatty and Stas.

Use this as a retool year. Adding more first rounders and a couple of seconds either this season or on 2024.

Then we can dip into free agency this summer or next.

I could see this happening in February or March if the team continues to tread water or full-on swoons but not later this month.

Yeah later this month might be literally unprecedented in recent history. Whatever market there may be for ROR/Tarasenko/Barbashev/Mikkola likely won't be fully developed until teams have accrued more cap space closer to the TDL.

No announcement from the Blues yet, but Jake Neighbours has been called back up and Alexandrov has been sent back to Springfield, per both Jim Thomas and a writer for the Thunderbirds on Twitter. Capfriendly also has this listed on their site.

Alexandrov showed pretty well and I’m encouraged by his future. He’s probably not ready quite yet, but if he adds a bit more muscle next Summer, he should be a good bottom 6’er next season.

As for Neighbours…idk. He didn’t even score a goal while in the AHL. He had 5 assists in 7 games so he wasn’t bad, but it just seems like the Blues are trying to force him into the NHL when he’s not quite there yet. Hope they know what they’re doing with the kid.

We lost two top 6 forwards last game. If they are out, I think management prefers sliding Neighbors up the lineup over any other options.

Yes, 2 centers got injured and we just sent down a center and called up a winger.

This can’t have anything to do with those injuries, meaning at least one of them isn’t serious and maybe both.

Capfriendly shows the recall/assignment happened yesterday actually. I would assume they’re waiting for an injury update from the medical staff so they can put it all in the same press release.

Regarding Neighbours not being quite ready yet, if there’s injuries, they need someone to play so Neighbours seems like a good choice. I also wouldn’t have minded if Highmore got a shot. He was a solid 4th liner for the Canucks and is doing well in Springfield.

I'm looking for the Blues to give a major performance in their first meeting with Dallas tonight. However I cannot blow off the first two periods eating mushrooms and watch the third period to jazz every game; it's unsustainable.

Thomas confirmed to be out. Out day to day with a lower body injury.

Forwards

Saad - O'Reilly - Leivo
Buchnevich - Barbashev - Tarasenko
Neighbours - Schenn - Kyrou
Walker - Acciari - Pitlick

Defense

Leddy - Parayko
Mikkola - Faulk
Krug - Bortuzzo

Goalie

Binnington
Interesting if Krug truly will be on the 3rd pairing.

Let's not rule anything out, for all we know that baby might be cooler under pressure than Mikkola. Let's see how the baby looks taking line rushes with his dad before we put Mikkola in.

At least Thomas is just day to day, just sucks that he's going to miss some games against big opponents. This next stretch could very well set the tone for the rest of the season. Knowing them, they'll just gone on some stupid win streak and offset an upcoming losing streak.

And delay the inevitable.

A couple of days old, but I didn't see that this was posted.

It's an ESPN interview with Army. He sounds okay with "taking a step back to take 2 forward", but a full rebuild isn't in his plans at all. I think he used a similar phrase when describing the Stastny trade a few years ago. I remember because, after we won the cup, Steen talked about a conversation he had with Army in which he told Army something like he didn't have time for steps backwards.

Worth posting in this thread too but we talked about it a bit yesterday in the time for a rebuild? thread
