Was he particularly bad in the game last night? I only watched the last period and only halfheartedly given the score. He didn't stand out as being worse than anyone else. We were just outmatched with our extras vs their starters. Everyone was awful but his box score was better than most, leading the team with the least low +/-, leading in shots on goal, having a takeaway and a block.
It’s not that he was particularly bad, as you say everyone pretty much was bad. He just doesn’t play how we want our bottom 6 to play. He tried to go 1 on multiple defenders a couple times last night to little effect. He doesn’t appear to want to play cycle game. Just seems to not be on same page with what club expects. I really think he needs a fresh start somewhere else if he is going to become nhl player.

Yeah, that's really what's going to drive our ability to outperform any critics. Skeptics likely aren't sold on Leddy and Binnington. How they perform will determine if we are up near Colorado in the division or just competing for a playoff spot.

I think it's much more likely that Leddy performs like he did down the stretch for us and is a big boost to Parayko, and then we'll see on Binnington. I expecting Binnington to be better than his poor stretches, and very curious if he's able to continue his play from the playoffs.
Same. This is why I posed the general question what are the % chances the Blues win the Central regular season if Binnington put up a .920 for the season, implying a significant confidence carryover from the end of last season. The likelihood of him doing it is a separate question, but it's a plausible outcome even if not probable.

Well maybe I am wrong. Maybe I need to pay more attention to him but idk, in the preseason games I watched I really didn't notice him:

I'd still expect our healthy lineup to look like this though:

Saad-ROR-Kyrou
Buch-Thomas-Tarasenko
Barbashev-Schenn-Neighbours
Walker-Acciari-Toro
Brown/Leivo

I basically agree. One minor tweak I would make is to replace Walker with Brown.

Not surprised at all with Klim going to waivers. He looked good in 1 preseason game. Meh to downright bad in all the others.

Was rooting for Pitlick to make it but they either didn’t quite like him enough or he’s injured more than day to day. They’re not going to sign an injured guy just to place him on IR.

Did anyone, literally anyone consider Alexandrov to be a legit option to grab a spot?? I still think he’ll end up getting sent down if/when Brown or Torpo are ready but agree he sure appears to have put himself in the conversation to be a top call-up option when the inevitable injuries occur. I’ll have to pay more attention to him as he must be doing a lot of little things right for Chief to like him so much.

Interesting, what unknowns are you concerned with?

I would understand concerns about the goaltending but literally everything else looks promising to me outside of wanting an upgrade on our 3rd defense pair.

What's the top 3 positions in hockey??? Goaltending, goaltending, and goldtending haha

Binnington turned it on during the playoffs but was below average during the regular season. Greiss could be the worst backup in the league. There's your most important position.

I see the franchise in the middle of changing from a contending playoff team to minor rebuild.

ROR had a mediocre regular season last year and then went gangbusters in the playoffs. He's in the last year of his contract but who knows... another year older..

Tarasenko the team's biggest star is still a ? but not for how he'll produce. He's on the last year of his deal and he won't be back. Do you get the same buy in from him and the guys around him? Not sure...

It doesn't feel as if Army has some crazy sensation that this team is on the verge of being a Cup winning team. He's certainly not taking huge risks on the trade front as in mortgaging the future in an attempt at going all in now.

The team has to truly be a collective team because there are no true superstars. I don't see it. I wouldn't be surprised if the team got off to a mediocre start and then got bad enough to be out of a playoff position by the trade deadline.

If that were to happen it could really be what the organization needs. Trade Tarasenko for a 1st + and possibly trade ROR for a 1st+. Next year's draft is supposed to be incredibly deep. Three 1st rounders could go a long way in helping the franchise cycle into the next phase of long term players on the team.

It's all guess work at this point but that's where I'm at.

If brown and toro are ready to go I think we have an extra forward? That would be I believe 15, not counting injured minor leaguers.
That’s correct. Alexandrov likely gets sent down soon once we are healthy and then we got our full roster.

It must suck being this pessimistic.

I don't see much in Alexandrov. Maybe as part of a full NHL lineup, his abilities would become more apparent, but he looks like he lacks awareness, especially in transition. I've seen him repeatedly skate unnecessarily into defenders and cough the puck up immediately after receiving it and be completely oblivious to passes he should be ready for in the neutral zone.

My best guess is that they see him as a potential PK specialist, which is possibly a good reason you'd want to give him more time with the coaches.

Another thing with Alexandrov, is that he doesn’t have to go on waivers, and I think the team would prefer to waive everyone they need to while everyone else is trying to squeeze their players through.

Berube has a different perspective. May be just coachy, camp talk, but "He's (Alexandrov) had a real good camp. I'm impressed by his details," Blues Head Coach Craig Berube said of Alexandrov. "Smart guy, in right positions, checks, does the right things, makes good puck plays. Now he has growing to do but he's had a real good camp."

I hope I'm missing something. Or, if those things are apparent in practice, they become apparent in games.

Expectations are relative, though. If they see Neighbours and Brown as options only in the top 9, the praise could be for Alexandrov as a 4th liner. I know Alexandrov just turned 22, so he's still developing, but I see more of pretty much everything out of Nathan Walker, who can't seem to stick.

I would say Walker is a near lock to make the team and as of now, projects on the starting 12. The lineup today has a 4th line of Alexandrov-Acciari-Walker.

Brown doesn’t sound like he’s overly close to returning (but he’ll also make the team) and I doubt they’d have Torpo play 0 preseason games and then just throw him into the opener.

I'm right there with you.

It's been written several times now that Kostin has been an enigma since being drafted, but I always "knew" he wasn't going to make it.

To me, Alexandrov is the true enigma, much like Walman was for me. Establishing an identity was what I wanted most from Walman and it is the same for Alexandrov.

What are you, Nikita?
