He wasn't great in a fight, but he never turned em down that I can remember. He was part of some of our worst teams though.

It's a sign of how bad we were as a team and organization that he was a key leader and player. Seemed like a nice, hardworking guy but man he didn't bring a lot to the table on the ice

Yeah, I don't have too many fond memories of his time here. He was part of the last hoorah with Sakic, Forsberg, and Foote, and part of the early years of Stastny, Duchene, O'Reilly. Both were pretty rough eras as Avs hockey goes.

My brother in law cheated on my sister while she was pregnant with their 2nd child. There are few things in life that get me upset like cheating on your spouse/partner (especially when you have children with them). That being said, I've heard lots of stories about pro athletes that essentially have a "hall pass" on the road or whatever so it's really something that's between each couple. I have no clue what Cole's arrangement with his wife is, so I can't pass any judgement there, but it doesn't seem like the reporter he cheated with had an agreement with her fiancee about it so that's pretty messed up.
I’ve gone on business trips where my co-worker was f***ing some chick outside of his marriage and was like, you should overlook my transgressions. My attitude then and now is don’t make me a part of your transgressions. I’m not lying for you under any circumstance. If asked directly, I will answer truthfully. Your moral frailties are your own.

Yeah kinda crazy how much they continue to lionize a truly awful human being like that eh?

FTR I do feel awful his daughter also lost his life and the family suffered such an unimaginable loss, but whenever someone says “Mamba Mentality” I want to throw up.
He made a mistake. A horrible, horrible mistake and one that I'm sure he probably wishes he had never made. I will never defend the action.

But let's be reasonable here: people can change. The Kobe Bryant post-incident was not the same Kobe pre-incident. He became a very dedicated father and wanted nothing more than to be involved in his daughter's lives post-basketball.

You and I probably won't agree on him, but Kobe is my guy. I believe in second chances and IMO Kobe made the most of his second chance.

Man, I'm glad I'm not a Leafs fan.
Dubas sat and watched as we traded for Georgiev, New Jersey traded for Vanecek, and Detroit traded for Husso. I've read he alienated Campbell with a lowball offer, and he doesn't have the cap space for Kuemper. So even looking at this the best possible way, he's been forced into a move like this because he was left without a goalie.

And that's the best way. The worst is that Matt Murray was always his preferred choice, because he played for the Soo Greyhounds. As much as we joke about our Columbus connection, it's not like we traded for Korpisalo to be our starter.

All Leafs fans can hope is that the Leafs brass has some film or analytics that show that Murray is capable of returning to starter-level play, but even that is not enough to justify this trade. The dude is incredibly injury-prone, and yet makes starter money. The Leafs are almost guaranteed to have to use their backup for extended periods next season, including possibly the playoffs, and they have no money to sign a good backup.

When this predictably ends in disaster Dubas surely needs to be finally fired, right? So glad the Leafs stopped us from hiring him.

Being a fan of the Maple Leafs is self-punishment..... Round 1-Exit year after year and a GM not able to bring it the missing pieces because he doesnt pullt the trigger on one of his overpaid core-players......

As someone mentioned in the mainpage thread, the best part is that Ottawa used Toronto as a cap dump destination.
And while I know most Leafs fans are losing their shit right about now, it's been fun watching the delusional ones defend this. Which might even be understandable had the Leafs not just paid a first to dump Mrazek.
Oof.

Here's an article from Chris Johnston, who is definitely plugged in to what the Leafs are thinking:

Basically, they are completely discounting the possibility probability that he will miss huge chunks of the season due to injury.

To be fair, they didn't "pay a first" - they moved down a dozen or so spots in the draft.

They also paid a first to dump Marleau lol Dubas might be one of the worst GMs I've ever seen

That's a major gamble lol. The fact is that it was an awful trade regardless if Murray plays a Vezina season. Ottawa should've retained at least 50%.

Always loved Cody Mac, he was a true warrior and a good 4th liner in his prime. But I gotta say, I never saw him as a "skills coach" kind of guy. Most of the drafted kids in the Wild system likely already have better hands than him.
Most skills coaches and player development coaches around the league are former scrubs. Scrubs have typically had to work to refine their games at a much higher level than that naturally talented guys... they know a bit about ways to get better. Take the Avs... Allard was a scrub in college who couldn't cut it in 2nd rate French leagues. Reinprecht and Willsie are both guys who made the NHL, but failed out too. Tampa has guys like JP Cote and Mike Ellis.

I think Matt Calvert would make an unreal skills coach if he ever wanted to pursue it one day though his new agency might not allow for that to happen.
