Flames as good as advertized so far. They just outshot Vegas (who had a good start of the season) 41-20.
Flames can roll 3 lines against any in the NHL. They have solid d, great coaching and a star goalie and they play in the Central. They are going to be the team to beat if they stay healthy and it seems like they are always healthy. They look this good and Huberdeau hasnt gotten goin yet.

A lot of people looked at the Edmonton series and draw wrong conclusions from that series IMO. That to me was kinda like Tampa gettings swept by the Blue Jackets a few years ago, a great regular season team collapsed under pressure against an inferior team.

Whenever I see him score goals I think about you @Pokecheque . You gave the Sabres so much shit for the O'reilly trade over the years...

Speaking of Thompsons, this one is for @dahrougem2

That's fine, I'm glad for Buffalo's sake TT appears to be a legit stud but that remains a shitty trade. Botterill could have and should have gotten a lot more out of Armstrong, especially considering he took on not one, but TWO horrible contracts off STL's books in order to make the cap hits balance out.

Only three games. Buffalo will crash in mid season.
I dunno...I'm not so sure that'll happen this time around. I think they might actually have something solid cooking, and Granato IMO is turning out to be a really good coach. And as much as I have slagged him the last year or so, I think Rasmus Dahlin has finally figured things out. JJ Peterka, the guy I kinda wanted the Avs to take that year, also appears to be a good find.

Not gonna bet big on them though--that goaltending situation could fall apart like a house of cards but I think they might finally be on the right track.

The Sabres should have lost 7-3 tonight just from the 3rd period given how badly the Oilers outplayed them.

I want Buffalo to be good, I really do. That fan base deserves to see playoff hockey but I still can't see them making the playoffs.

Playoffs may not happen, but I also don't think they're going to fall off a cliff like they have previously. If they're playing meaningful games well into 2023, that's progress.

The goalie equipment changes have made a huge impact here. NHL got what they wanted.
I cannot recall this to have caused any further injuries to goalies, as was in some circles feared.
Is there some viable data if certain injuries or injuries in total have increased for goalies since then?

Well said and very true.
The question however is does the justice system offer due process to victims of sexual assault/harassment.
The one-on-one nature of these assaults, which lead to the "he says / she says" problem has been around forever and has never been corrected. It is far from being easy to correct while mainting the integrity of the "innocent until proven guilty concept" that we have in Canada, which I respect and support. But we have yet to truly try to fix it...
Thanks for responding in a informative nature rather than just antagonizing. We definitely need to find a way to rectify the system regarding sexual assault. It is hard like you mention and way out of my area of knowledge I just don’t want to get rid of innocent instead of proven guilty for guilty until proven innocent. You’d think there would be a reasonable solution I just haven’t heard one thing yet.

The Flames biggest issue is Markstrom vs the Oilers. It’s clearly a mental thing, but he falls apart every time he plays the oilers.

Okay the Sharks screwed up their new uniforms. Why would you switch to teal gloves and pants and then make the numbers black on the away jerseys!? That’s the exact same problem the Avs had with their away sweaters when the numbers were black and the pants/gloves were blue.

Some people thought they'd tank for Bedard with Torts ...

I didn’t think they would. But they should have. Hiring Torts is a band-aid solution that’s ultimately going to leave them in a worse spot than they were in before.

The problem in Philly isn’t the decisions they’re making, it’s the indecision. They have no idea what they want to do.

And we’ll see how this goes. It’s early yet. Personally I think they’ll be a team that doesn’t make the playoffs but doesn’t get a lottery pick either, which is worst case scenario.

Gabe Vilardi has arrived
Happy for the kid! Hopefully he is past all the injuries.

It seems like a lot of teams had injured goalies over the past couple years, but that is just off memory and I'd say most were knee/groin/hip sorts that probably weren't impacted by the changes.

When goalies get injured it's usually because they pull/tear something while stretching to make a save or an attacking forward runs them...or way back in Dan Cloutier's case, it's because Nolan Baumgartner literally picks up and throws Andrew Brunette at you.

I'm still incredulous at the fact that Ben Bishop lost a tooth because a puck hit his face through his mask. The only guy that had worse injury luck than him in NHL history was Pascal Leclaire. But I have yet to hear about a puck catching a goalie in a bad spot because of equipment changes.

One more thing that would cut down on goalie injuries is if they finally ditched those "cat's eye" masks once and for all. Looking at you, Darcy.

Oh I fully agree. Torts is a terrible hire, especially with the kind of draft that's coming next summer (some say it's another 2015).

Nothing more damaging for a franchise than a GM that needs to win now when he doesn't have the core pieces to do it.
