The Hershey Bears announced today that the club has signed forward Bear Hughes and defenseman Benton Maass to American Hockey League contracts for the 2022-23 season.

Hughes, 20, led the Western Hockey League's Spokane Chiefs in all scoring categories this season, posting a team best in goals (24), assists (43), and points (67). He was named Spokane's 35th captain in team history this past January, and earned U.S. Division Second All-Star Team honors.

The 6'2", 171-pound forward posted 116 points (42g, 74a) over his 127-game WHL career. The Post Falls, Idaho native was selected by Washington in the 5th round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He signed a tryout with the Bears on May 3, but did not see any game action.

Maass, 23, was selected by the Capitals in the 6th round of the 2017 NHL Draft. After four years at the University of New Hampshire, Maass transferred to Minnesota State University for the 2021-22 season, helping the Mavericks to the NCAA Tournament title game. The 6'3", 201-pound blue liner scored 14 points (3g, 11a) in 42 games for Minnesota State, and the native of Elk River, Minn. collected 51 points (13g, 38a) in 162 career NCAA games.

After signing a tryout with the Bears on Apr. 20, Maass made his professional debut with Hershey in the club's regular season finale on Apr. 24 versus Syracuse, recording two shots.

The Rockford IceHogs today announced that forward Riley McKay and defenseman Cliff Watson have signed a one-year American Hockey League contract extension with the club for the 2022-23 season. Additionally, the club has signed goaltender Mitchell Weeks to a two-year American Hockey League contract. Weeks, 20, joins the IceHogs for his rookie season after completing a four-year career with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and brief appearance with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) in the 2021 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Barrie, Ontario, native appeared in three contests with the Nailers, going 0-1-0 with a 1.93 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

The Springfield Thunderbirds announced today that they have signed forward Brayden Guy to an AHL contract for the 2022-23 season.

Guy, 21, completed his OHL career as captain of the Guelph Storm. In 36 games with the Storm in 2021-22, Guy posted 30 points (19g, 11a) to go along with 28 penalty minutes.

Over a four-season OHL junior career, Guy recorded 121 points (68g, 53a) in 218 games.

The Bakersfield Condors have signed the following five players to American Hockey League (AHL) contracts:

Luke Esposito (one-year)
Yanni Kaldis (one-year)
Dino Kambeitz (two years)
Alex Peters (one-year)
Darien Kielb (one-year, AHL/ECHL)

Esposito (stats), 28, had a career season in 2021-22 with 25 points (8g-17a) in 63 games. He has spent the past four seasons in Bakersfield and five overall in the AHL with 94 points (30g-64a) in 252 games. The Andover, Mass. native is one of just three Condors to play in over 200 games with Bakersfield in the AHL.

Kaldis (stats), 26, led all Condors d-men in scoring during his 2021-22 sophomore season with 31 points (7g-24a) in 53 games. He had four assists in five Calder Cup Playoffs games.

Kambeitz (stats), 22, notched 15 points (7g-8a) in 53 games during his rookie campaign. The Parker, Colo. native also had three points (1g-2a) in five Calder Cup Playoffs contests.

Peters (stats), 25, served as captain of the Wichita Thunder (ECHL) for the majority of the 2021-22 season while appearing in 15 regular season games and five postseason matchups with the Condors. He scored his first AHL goal on April 9, 2022 at Colorado and went on to register five points (1g-4a) in the regular season.

Kielb (stats), 23, joined the Condors on a tryout on April 13, 2022 and had six points (2g-4a) in seven games with Bakersfield.

2nd European stint for the veteran AHLer who played for Frolunda (SHL) between 2016 and 2018.

No confirmation on the Jets' front. Possible AHL signing.
